USER MANUAL 110200 NOVA
Instructions for use
Read these instructions thoroughly first and keep them for future reference. Check that your domestic electricity supply matches that of the appliance. Only connect this appliance to an earthed socket. The Nova Contact grill is a professional 2-in-1 appliance. Thanks to its reversible plates, it can be used both as a contact grill and as a pancake maker. The contact grill is also ideal for use as a sandwich maker. For this, you should use the grill side of the plates. The other side is ideal for preparing crêpes. Finally, the appliance can also used as an open grill when fully opened out. The plates have a non-stick coating on both sides. Because of this, the appliance can be cleaned quickly and easily. The indicator lights and the adjustable thermostat make the Nova Contact grill a highly practical appliance.
We recommend you wash the plates carefully before use in warm water with a little washing-up liquid, and then dry them well. The machine may give off a little smoke when used for the first time. This is normal for new heating elements and will stop after a short time.
7SECURING/REVERSING THE PLATES
To attach the plates firmly or to switch them, it is best to open out the appliance completely first. This is done as follows:
- Raise the cover of the appliance until it remains upright without being held.
- Now pull the cover directly upwards until it will go no further.
- Now you can fold the cover back so that it is completely flat. This is the position for grilling. The following allows you to place the grill in the Raclette setting.
- Raise the cover of the appliance until it remains upright without being held.
- Now pull the cover directly upwards until it will go no further.
- Then lift the lid slightly forwards and close the appliance again. To use the appliance as a sandwich maker, fold the lid forward again in the reverse order. When the appliance is completely folded open you can change the plates easily. To do this, pull the iron lip on the front of the plate slightly towards you. Now you can lift the plate upwards a little. Then slide the plate outwards towards the rear under the two brackets. Do the same with the plate on the opposite side. First push the new plate under the two brackets. Then pull the iron lip towards you again and fasten the plate in place. Both grill plates have a drainage channel in one of the four corners. This allows the fat etc. to drain away easily. When securing the plates, makes sure that the drainage channel is positioned on the outside of the appliance. (and not where the hinges are). If you are using ingredients that produce a lot of grease or fat, we advise placing a dish under the drainage channel.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Completely unroll the lead and insert the plug in the outlet. Place the appliance on a stable and heat- resistant surface. The appliance can now be opened. Grease the plates lightly with cooking oil (only the first time and after cleaning). Close the appliance and allow the plates to heat up by setting the temperature regulator on the right side. The plates will have achieved the right temperature when the indicator light goes out. Experiment a little with the temperature setting until you have found the ideal setting.
TO USE AS SANDWICH MAKER
Wait until the plates are at the right temperature. Place a slice of bread on the lower plate, then the fil- ling, then another slice of bread. Now close the lid. The toasted sandwich will be ready after about 3 minutes. You should use a wooden or plastic spatula to remove the toasted sandwich in order to avoid damage to the non-stick coating.
Use the raclette setting described above and then use the thermostat to allow the appliance to warm up to the temperature required. Because the plates are now some distance apart, the appliance is ideal for preparing traditional raclette dishes.
USE AS GRILL/ PANCAKE MAKER
In order to grill, heat the appliance while closed as it will heat much faster like this. When the plates are heated, open the appliance. On top of the appliance there is a black plastic clip that you can push up. Push it upwards before opening up the appliance. In this way, the clip can be used as a base for the grill. This open grilling position is handy for use in the kitchen and is also very nice at the table! Moreover, it is a healthy way to grill or fry because no oil or butter is required. The cooking time and temperature setting will depend on the chosen dish or ingredients. You can, of course, experiment with the cooking time and the temperature setting to get the best results. Small pieces of meat, fish etc. will be cooked through faster than large pieces. 8Turn meat and fish once only in order to prevent them from drying out. For the same reason it is better to use a spatula than to prick with a fork. Use a wooden or plastic spatula on the plate. Do not use metal implements as these could damage the non-stick coating. You can also grill while the appliance is closed. To do this, place the meat, fish or other ingredients on the lowest plate before closing the appliance and clamping it shut. CLEANING ALWAYS UNPLUG THE APPLIANCE BEFORE CLEANING. Clean the appliance after each time that you use it. Allow the appliance to cool completely first. Clean the outside with a damp cloth. The plates can be cleaned using soapy water. You must rinse them with tap water afterwards. The non-stick coating should not be cleaned with sharp metal objects or aggressive detergents. If the plates are very dirty they should be soaked for half an hour in hot water and detergent. After grilling it is frequently only necessary to wipe the plates with kitchen paper while the appliance is still warm. DAMAGE TO THE PLATES CAUSED BY SHARP OBJECTS IS NOT COVERED BY THE GUARANTEE! WALNUT TOASTED SANDWICH
Ingredients (for 4 people) 8 slices of bread Some butter or margarine 200 grams cheese (you could even use Brie or goat’s cheese!) 60 grams shelled walnuts 8 slices of ham or thinly-sliced bacon 9Preparation: Spread butter or margarine on one side of the bread. Place a slice of bread on the plate and lay some slices of cheese on it, a few walnuts and a couple of slices of ham or bacon. Lay the other slice of bread on top and close the appliance. The toasted sandwich will be ready after a few minutes. SALMON MEDALLIONS on a bed of courgettes Ingredients (for 4 people) 4 salmon medallions, 1 medium courgette, 1 can of prawn soup, shot glass of cognac, 1/4 litre cream, pot of salmon eggs, dill, parsley, pepper, salt. Preparation: Turn on the grill and allow the plate to heat up. Cut the courgette into pieces each about 1/4 cm. When the plate has heated up, spread the pieces over the plate so it is nice and full. Lay the top of the grill onto the courgettes. After about a minute they will be browned. Place the pieces on a dish. Take the prawn soup and pour it into a steel pan and bring it to the boil. Let the sauce reduce so it thickens. Then add a shot glass of cognac, cut the dill and add it to the mixture. Allow the sauce to simmer gently on a low flame. Place the salmon medallions onto a cutting board and season with salt only. Pre-heat the plate and then place the four medallions evenly spaced across it. Place the top of the grill onto the salmon and the medallions should be ready in about 2.5 minutes. The heat will cause the salmon to give off some oil at the side, which can easily be removed ensuring the salmon is low in fat. Once ready, you should slightly season it with a little pepper. Spread the courgette in a fan shape on the dish and place the salmon medallions on top. Finally add the cream to the sauce and pour it alongside the courgette. Garnish with the salmon eggs and the parsley. The result should have the appearance of a flower! Enjoy your delicious creation!
