• The appliance is designed exclusively for private use and for the envisaged purpose. This appliance is not t for commer- cial use. Do not use it outdoors. Keep it away from sources of heat, direct sunlight, humidity (never dip it into any liquid) and sharp edges. Do not use the appliance with wet hands. If the appliance is humid or wet, unplug it immediately.

• When cleaning or putting it away, switch off the appliance and always pull out the plug from the socket (pull the plug itself, not the lead) if the appliance is not being used and remove the attached accessories.

• Do not operate the machine without supervision. If you leave the room you should always turn the device off. Remove the plug from the socket.

• The device and the mains lead have to be checked regularly for signs of damage. If damage is found the device must not be used.

• Do not try to repair the appliance on your own. Always contact an authorized technician. To avoid the exposure to danger, always have a faulty cable be replaced only by the manufacturer, by our customer service or by a qualied person and with a cable of the same type.

• Use only original spare parts.

• Pay careful attention to the following “Special Safety Instruc- tions“. Children and Frail Individuals

• In order to ensure your children‘s safety, please keep all packaging (plastic bags, boxes, polystyrene etc.) out of their reach. WARNING! Caution! Do not allow small children to play with the foil as there is a danger of suffocation!

• This device is not intended to be used by individuals (includ- ing children) who have restricted physical, sensory or mental abilities and/or insufcient knowledge and/or experience, un- less they are supervised by an individual who is responsible for their safety or have received instructions on how to use the device.

• The water level must be between the 1litre and MIN. marks!

• Use only cold water when lling.

• Use the appliance only on a level work surface.

• Always ensure that the lid is tightly closed.

• Please do not open the lid when the water is boiling.

• Do not move the device and do not touch it when it is work- ing.

• Only use the kettle with the accompanying base.

• Switch the machine off before removing it from the base.

• The base and exterior of the machine must not become wet.

• After familiarisation and if the operating instructions are complied with, the device may be used

• in kitchens for employees in shops, ofces and other commercial elds

• by customers in hotels, motels and other residential facilities. It is not intended for use in agricultural properties or bed- and-breakfast establishments. Instructions Preparation Before using for the rst time, boil fresh water at least three times in the appliance. Use only water without any additives or ingredients. Mains Lead Completely unwind the length of mains lead that you require from the bottom section of the base. Please ensure that the mains lead does not become tangled up. • The device switches itself back on when placed on the base. PossibleCause: The switch is turned on. Remedy: Press the switch upwards. 1. Place the machine on a at surface.

• First press the locking mechanism in the direction of the handle.

• Then pull the lid upwards.

3. Then ll in the water (max. 1 Litre). You can read the lling

level on the water level indicator of the kettle.

4. Close the lid until you hear it lock in place.

5. Place the kettle ush on the base.

6. Electrical connection

• Check whether the electrical voltage that you intend to use is the same as that of the machine. Details are to be found on the label on the base.

• Only connect the machine to a properly installed 230 V, 50 Hz safety socket.

7. Switch on the kettle by pressing the switch. The water level

indicator is illuminated during the entire boiling process. Switching off/Interrupting Operation There are two ways to stop/interrupt the boiling process:

• The appliance switches off automatically after the water has boiled.

• You can press the switch upwards in order to stop or inter- rupt the boiling process.

• Do not remove the appliance from the base without switching it off beforehand. As long as the switch is in the lower position the kettle is switched on.

• Always switch the device off before you remove it from the base! Please also ensure that it is switched off when you put it back on the base!

WARNING: DANGER OF SCALDING!

• When pouring the water out, keep the lid closed.

• During operation the housing becomes hot. Do not touch it and allow the device to cool down before storing it away.

• Remove the mains plug.

• The illumination in the water level indicator goes off.

• Emptying the water container. Mains Cable Take-up Device The mains cable can be wound up on the base. Cleaning

• Always turn the device off before cleaning it and remove the mains plug. Wait until the device has cooled down.

• Never immerse the device or the base in water or other liquids. CAUTION:

• Do not use any wire brush or other abrasive objects.

• Do not use any acidic or abrasive detergents.

• Rinse the water container out with clean water. Then dry it off with a cloth.

• Clean the housing after use with a slightly damp cloth.

• There is a permanent lter in the spout. In order to clean the lter, pull it out with the lid open. Rinse out the lter with run- ning water. Reinsert it, taking note of the guide mechanism. Decalcification

• The frequency of the decalcifying operation depends on the hardness of the water and on how often the appliance is used.

• If the machine switches off before the water boils, it probably needs to be decalcied.

• Please do not use vinegar but a commercially available decalcication agent on the basis of citric acid. Only use the quantities stated in the instructions. NOTE: After descaling the device boil fresh water in it several times (approximately 3-4 times) in order to remove any residues. Do not consume this water. Troubleshooting

• It is not possible to switch the machine on. PossibleCause: After being used without or with too little water the machine has not cooled down sufciently. Remedy: Allow the machine to cool down for 15 min.

• The machine switches off before the water has boiled. PossibleCause: The heated base is coated with too much lime or the circuit of the plug is overloaded. Remedy: Descale the machine as instructed. Check the mains connection.

• The machine does not switch off. PossibleCause: The lid is not closed or the lter is not inserted. Remedy: Close the lid until it locks in place or re-insert the lter. 05-WKS 3381.indd 22 16.08.2010 9:35:05 Uhr23 ENGLISH
