Operation and use

General notes

Before using, rub or brush cold grill plates each time with cooking oil to prevent food from sticking to them.

The food should be at room temperature since frozen food requires longer to cook and can also dry out.

To achieve the best results, preheat the grill until the required temperature has been reached and the control indicator (2) extinguishes.

Carefully monitor grilling and regulate the temperature - if necessary.

You can use the appliance to cook various different foods such as steaks, sausages or vegetables.

The appliance is particularly suitable for quick low-fat preparation of meals since both sides are grilled simultaneously and the ribbed surface of the grill allows fat to quickly flow into the drip tray.

If you wish to grill different meals at the same time, they must have the same thickness so that contact to the surface of the grill plate remains even.

Using the appliance

Switching on

Push the removable drip tray (4) into the opening on the back of the lower part of the housing until it snaps in.

Insert the plug into a mains socket.

Set the maximum temperature with the thermostat (3).

Allow the appliance to heat up after switching on. The operating temperature is reached in approx. 8 minutes when the lid (1) is closed.

The temperature has been reached when the control indicator (2) extinguishes.

Get the thermostat to a lower level and allow the appliance to cool down a little if you require a lower grilling temperature.

NOTE

The temperature timer settings can be changed at any time during grilling.

Instructions for using the aroma depot

You can use solid ingredients (e. g. fresh herbs) or liquid ingredients such as wine, beer, olive oil, soya sauce or coconut milk for the aroma depot.

The most used herbs for grilling are salt, pepper and ground paprika. In the following table, you will find further ideas on how to refine the taste of your grilled food even more:

Type of food to be grilledPossible filling for the aroma depot
poultry garlic, sage, thyme, Tandoori herbs, lemon, ginger, honey
pork honey, sage, mustard, rosemary, thyme, garlic
beef mustard, chili, horseradish
fishlemon, coriander, dill, honey, caraway, thyme, juniper, bay leaf
lamb rosemary, garlic, oregano, chili, coriander

Recipe 1

Pour approx. 50ml of red wine into the aroma depot.

Allow the appliance to heat up and begin grilling.

Lay the meat slices lengthwise on the aroma depot.

Recipe 2

Crush the 2 garlic cloves with the garlic press and distribute the garlic in the aroma depot.

Add a little olive oil to the garlic sprin- ale strong herbs over the oil (e. g., chili or thyme).

Allow the appliance to heat up and begin grilling.

Grilling with smoke chips

Grilling with smoke chips provides an extraordinary culinary experience. Whether hickory, beech, apple tree or cedar wood - smoke chips gives your meat a special note. Try it and find out which wood aroma you prefer.

You can obtain smoke chips in shops that offer grill accessories.

NOTE

Put the smoke chips into the aroma depot and start grilling only when a smoky vapour forms.

Do not lay the meat onto the smoke chips but next to them along the aroma depot.

Put the food to be grilled into a salt solution

If you put the food to be grilled into a salt solution for 8-12 hours before grilling, you can strengthen the taste of the smoke.

Salt solutions are available for sale as brining solutions but must be strongly diluted to prevent oversalting.

However, you can mix a mild salt solution yourself.

Add roughly 1 teaspoon of salt (ap- prox. 20g ) to 1 litre of water.

Refine the salt solution - depending on taste - with herbs and spices (approx. 1 teaspoon each): dill, parsley, thyme, basil, herbs of Provence, bay leaves, junipers, pimento and peppercorns.

Put the meat into the salt solution and make sure that the pieces of meat are covered by the solution.

Cover the bowl and put it into the refrigerator.

Take the meat out of the salt solution after at least 8 hours, wash it thoroughly under running water and allow it to dry.

Now you start grilling. Season the meat with freshly grounded pepper but do not add more salt.

Cleaning and care

Before beginning work, pay attention to the safety instructions in the section on safety (page 17)!

The appliance must be cleaned after each use.

Clean the appliance as soon as it has cooled down. Waiting too long makes cleaning unnecessarily difficult.

Leftovers that stick to the grill plates can burn into the coating if not removed correctly

Grill plates

Wipe the grill plates with damp cloth or sponge and a little washing-up liquid and then with a damp cloth without washing-up liquid.

Aroma depot

Use a piece of kitchen roll to absorb and remove any liquid residue from the aroma depot.

Wipe the aroma depot with a damp cloth or sponge.

Drip tray

Remove the drip tray (4), empty it and wash with warm water or in a dishwasher.

Housing

Wipe the housing with a damp cloth or sponge.

If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, clean it as described in the section Cleaning and care (page 24).
