2. Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing the ebode IR Link C. Our ebode proprietary eR²x™ (pronounce Irex) Technology guarantees a high level of immunity for InfraRed noise from direct sunlight, CFL lighting and Flat Panel TV's (including Plasma, LCD and LED). It provides accurate reproduction of the latest generation InfraRed codes that are used in remote controls of, for instance, set-top boxes and media players (incl. RC5/6, RCMM, XMP).
The IR Link C is a mains powered InfraRed Extender System that allows full remote control operation of audio/video components (such as your Blu-ray player, A/V Receiver, DVR, Satellite Box, Cable Tuner, etc.) which are located in another room and makes use of existing coax cable (CATV).
An InfraRed Extender in general consists of an IR (InfraRed) capture device, the Receiver, a distribution circuit/connecting block, the Hub, and finally the IR LED output, the Emitter, which flashes the IR signal to the A/V component.
3. Set content
The ebode IR Link C consists of the following supplied parts:
-
One InfraRed Receiver, Model IRLP. It is placed at the remote room location to receive IR signals from the handheld remote controller.
-
One INJ Injector. This unit, located in the remote room, injects the remote control signal into the room to- room coaxial cable (along with the TV signal) and passes it to the CPL Coupler in the main room. It also provides quick connection of the IRLP IR Receiver and 12VDC power supply cables.
-
One CPL Coupler. Located in the main room, this Coupler extracts the remote control signal from the coaxial cable and passes it to the emitters that control your source equipment. In addition, the CPL contains a 2-way RF splitter so that the TV signal can be fed to a local TV.
-
One Triple Blinking IR Emitter, model 3IRDB. The Emitters on this device allow control of three InfraRed remote controlled audio/video components. The IR Emitters have a self adhesive film on one surface of each Emitter. This allows them to be "stuck" to the IR sensor "window" on your source equipment. There is a set of replacement adhesive pads included.
-
A 12VDC Power Supply. This plugs into a 230V - 50Hz outlet to provide power to the IRLP Receiver.
-
3 extra replacement adhesives for the IR Emitters
4. How does the ebode IR Link C work?
The ebode IR Link C system uses the coaxial cable that carries the TV RF signal from the source equipment in the main room to the remote room, to send the IR control signals back to the source equipment. The coaxial cable may be up to 300m in length. If you already have a coaxial cable connecting your video

equipment with a remote room, your current hook-up should be similar to figure 1. If it isn't, run a single length of RG59 or preferably RG6 cable from the Main Room to the Remote Room.
NOTE: If RF amplifier(s), splitters or taps are used anywhere in the line of the coaxial cable between the CPL Coupler and the INJ Injector, you must verify if those are DC passive in order to be sure to route the IR commands through the amplifier(s) and splitters.
5. Installing the ebode IR Link C
INSTALLING THE IRLP IR RECEIVER
Insert the red mini plug attached to the IRLP into the jack marked "IR RECEIVER" on the INJ Injector. Refer to figure 2.
Plug the 12VDC Power Supply cord into the jack marked +12V on the INJ Injector. Plug the power supply into a 230V - 50Hz outlet after you have made all other connections.
Position the IRLP IR Receiver so that the InfraRed beam from the handheld remote control has a direct view at the front of the unit (within 10m). The Receiver can be fixed to the surface by using the double side tape pad or
via a slide on screw hole on the bottom of the unit.

INSTALLING THE INJ INJECTOR
Insert the "TO TV" plug on the back of the INJ injector into "RF IN" on the TV in the Remote Room. Connect the room-to-room cable to "ANT INPUT" on the INJ injector.
INSTALLING THE CPL COUPLER
Insert the "SAT/VCR" plug on the back of the CPL Coupler into "OUT TO TV" on DVR in the main room.
Connect the room-to-room cable to "REMOTE/TV" on the CPL Coupler, as shown in Fig. 2
INSTALLING THE 3IREDB TRIPLE IR EMITTER
Plug the 3IREDB Emitter into the jack marked "EMITTER" on the CPL Coupler in the main room.
The emitters should be installed directly to the InfraRed sensor "window" on the front panel of the satellite Receiver, DVR, cable box, etc. Simply remove the paper backing exposing the adhesive surface of each Emitter and apply them to the centre of the sensor window.
NOTE: Although the IRED appears dark to the eye, it is transparent to InfraRed. Positioning the IRED directly over the InfraRed window(s) of the component(s) will not block direct IR control from a handheld remote.
ATTENTION: If you are only using one A/V appliance, then you do not need to use the additional IR Emitters. Never remove it from the wire! Just dress up the wire and leave close to the CPL.
6. Operation
To use the ebode IR Link C Remote Control Extension System, simply point your handheld remote control(s) at the IR Receiver and press the desired button. A red LED on the front of the IR Receiver will indicate the reception of your InfraRed command.
NOTE: The maximum usable distance between your IR remote and the IRLP Receiver will vary for each remote and might be shorter than when directly used in the room controlling the satellite Receiver or other IR controlled devices.
ADVANCED MULTIROOM HOOKUP
Figure 3 shows an advanced system using two ebode IR Link C's in a multi-room installation. Except for the addition of a 2-way DC passing RF splitter, the connections are essentially the same.
7. How to avoid and solve possible problems
Although the ebode IR Link C is equipped with proprietary eIRx™ (pronounced Irex) Technology, which guarantees a high level of immunity of InfraRed noise of direct sunlight, CFL lighting and Flat Panel TV's (including Plasma, LCD and LED), in rare cases, the IR Receiver may have to be moved to a different location if the unit is picking up unexpected interference. This interference may, in severe cases, prevent the system from working. You can identify interference when the InfraRed Emitters are lit or

blinking, even when you're not using a remote control transmitting at the time.
After repositioning, check to see if the ebode IR Link C operates the satellite Receiver or other components. If the ebode IR Link C still does not work, reposition the IRED Emitter(s). It may not be located directly over the component's InfraRed receiving "window". Consult the owner's manual of the unit or the manufacturer for the exact location of the InfraRed "window".
IMPORTANT: For installations involving more than two remote rooms, use the services of a competent professional audio/video installer experienced in InfraRed Remote Control Systems.
