Frequently Asked Questions - DSC-RX10M3 SONY

What is the zoom range of the Sony DSC-RX10M3?
The DSC-RX10M3 features a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 25x lens, covering an equivalent focal length of 24 to 600 mm in 35mm format. This exceptional range makes it an all-in-one camera, from wide-angle to super-telephoto, without ever changing the lens.
Does the Sony DSC-RX10M3 record in 4K?
Yes, it records in 4K (XAVC S 4K) at 25 fps with a bitrate of 100 Mbps. It also supports XAVC S HD up to 100 fps at 100 Mbps, AVCHD, and MP4. For 4K, you must use an SDXC card with UHS Speed Class 3 (U3).
How do I use the Super Slow Motion mode on the RX10M3?
Select the HFR (High Frame Rate) mode via the mode dial or the camera menu. The camera captures the sequence at a very high frame rate and then automatically generates a slow-motion video. The useful recording time in HFR is shorter than in standard video mode.
Which memory card should I choose for the DSC-RX10M3?
The camera accepts SD, SDHC, SDXC, and Memory Stick Duo cards. For 4K or high-speed filming, you must choose an SDXC card with UHS Speed Class 3 (U3) of at least 64 GB. A card that is too slow will cause recording interruptions.
How do I connect the DSC-RX10M3 to a smartphone?
Enable Wi-Fi in the camera's Network menu, then open the Sony Imaging Edge Mobile app (formerly PlayMemories Mobile) on your smartphone. The built-in NFC also allows instant pairing by bringing a compatible phone close to the camera.
The autofocus is not working, what should I do?
Check that the switch is in the AF position. In low light, autofocus may be less responsive. If the subject is too close in telephoto (less than 72 cm), AF will fail: step back or switch to manual focus (MF). In wide-angle, the minimum AF distance is 3 cm.
Is the lens of the DSC-RX10M3 interchangeable?
No. The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens is fixed and integrated into the camera. The DSC-RX10M3 is a bridge camera (non-interchangeable lens camera). This design ensures optical consistency and the 24-600 mm range is always available.
What is the minimum focusing distance of the DSC-RX10M3?
In wide-angle position, the minimum focusing distance is about 3 cm, allowing for very close macro shots. In telephoto (600 mm equivalent), this distance increases to about 72 cm. The SteadyShot optical stabilization helps achieve sharp images at close distances.
Does the DSC-RX10M3 have an external microphone jack?
Yes, the camera includes a 3.5 mm mini jack for an external microphone and a headphone output for real-time audio monitoring. These inputs/outputs are particularly useful for videographers seeking professional quality sound.
How do I transfer photos from the DSC-RX10M3 to a computer?
You can connect the camera directly to your computer via USB cable, or remove the memory card and use a card reader. The built-in Wi-Fi also allows wireless transfer via the Sony Imaging Edge app (PC/Mac) or Imaging Edge Mobile (smartphone).
How do I optimize the battery life of the DSC-RX10M3?
Reduce the screen brightness in the display settings. Disable Wi-Fi and NFC when not in use, and enable quick auto-sleep mode. Recording in 4K consumes more power: have a spare battery ready for long video sessions.

2 Connect the AC Adaptor to the wall outlet (wall socket).

The power/charge lamp lights orange, and charging starts.

  • Turn off the camera while charging the battery.
  • You can charge the battery pack even when it is partially charged.
  • When the power/charge lamp flashes and charging is not finished, remove and re-insert the battery pack.

Notes

  • If the power/charge lamp on the camera flashes when the AC Adaptor is connected to the wall outlet (wall socket), this indicates that charging is temporarily stopped because the temperature is outside the recommended range. When the temperature gets back within the appropriate range, the charging resumes. We recommend charging the battery pack in an ambient temperature of between 10^ to 30^ (50^ to 86^) .
  • The battery pack may not be effectively charged if the terminal section of the battery is dirty. In this case, wipe any dust off lightly using a soft cloth or a cotton swab to clean the terminal section of the battery.
  • Connect the AC Adaptor (supplied) to the nearest wall outlet (wall socket). If malfunctions occur while using the AC Adaptor, disconnect the plug from the wall outlet (wall socket) immediately to disconnect from the power source.
  • When charging is finished, disconnect the AC Adaptor from the wall outlet (wall socket).

  • The AC Adaptor AC-UD11 (sold separately) may not be available in some countries/regions.

Charging time (Full charge)

The charging time is approximately 230min using the AC Adaptor (supplied).

Notes

  • The above charging time applies when charging a fully depleted battery pack at a temperature of 25^ (77^) . Charging may take longer depending on conditions of use and circumstances.

Charging by connecting to a computer

The battery pack can be charged by connecting the camera to a computer using a micro USB cable. Connect the camera to the computer with the camera turned off.

SONY DSC-RX10M3 - Charging by connecting to a computer - 1

  • If you connect the camera to a computer when power is turned on, the camera will be powered by the computer, which allows you to import images to a computer without worrying about the battery running out.

Notes

  • Note the following points when charging via a computer:
  • If the camera is connected to a laptop computer that is not connected to a power source, the laptop battery level decreases. Do not charge for an extended period of time.
  • Do not turn on/off or restart the computer, or wake the computer to resume from sleep mode when a USB connection has been established between the computer and the camera. That may cause the camera to malfunction. Before turning on/off, or restarting the computer or waking the computer from sleep mode, disconnect the camera and the computer.
  • No guarantees are made for charging using a custom-built computer or a modified computer.

  • Continuous shooting is possible for approximately 29 minutes (a product specification limit). The maximum continuous recording time of an MP4 (12M) format movie is about 15 minutes (limited by the 2 GB file size restriction).
  • The recordable time of movies varies because the camera is equipped with VBR (Variable Bit-Rate), which automatically adjusts image quality depending on the shooting scene. When you record a fast-moving subject, the image is clearer but the recordable time is shorter because more memory is required for recording. The recordable time also varies depending on the shooting conditions, the subject or the image quality/size settings.

Notes on using the camera

Functions built into this camera

  • This manual describes 1080 60i-compatible devices and 1080 50i-compatible devices. To check whether your camera is a 1080 60i-compatible device or 1080 50i-compatible device, check for the following marks on the bottom of the camera. 1080 60i-compatible device: 60i 1080 50i-compatible device: 50i
  • This camera is compatible with 1080 60p or 50p-format movies. Unlike standard recording modes up to now, which record in an interlacing method, this camera records using a progressive method. This increases the resolution, and provides a smoother, more realistic image. Movies recorded in 1080 60p/1080 50p format can be played back only on 1080 60p/1080 50p-supported devices.
  • While aboard an airplane, set [Airplane Mode] to [On].
