What is the difference between the RTSc and RTSfx speakers?
The RTSc is designed for the center channel of a THX Ultra2 system, while the RTSfx is intended for surround channels. The RTSc has a sensitivity of 92 dB and a weight of 3.97 kg, whereas the RTSfx has 88 dB and 4.88 kg. The RTSfx additionally has a Solid/Diffuse switch and a Wall Dist. switch.
How to install the LCI-RTS-C speaker in an existing wall?
Use the included template (for RTSfx, not included for RTSc) to mark the opening. Cut with a drywall saw. Ensure no studs, electrical wires or plumbing are behind. Run the cable (14 gauge or larger) and secure the speaker using the Stud-Lock system (for RTSfx) or directly (RTSc).
How to paint the aluminum grille?
Remove the grille by pushing on the screw clamps. Remove the inner cloth. Use the supplied paint mask to protect the transducers. Apply thin coats of spray paint – do not use a brush. Let dry, then replace the cloth and reinstall the grille by carefully clipping it.
What do the 'Solid' and 'Diffuse' positions on the RTSfx mean?
The Diffuse position creates a sound cloud without a precise source, ideal for an enveloping surround effect. The Solid position makes effects more directional and localizable. For THX Ultra2 systems, the Solid position is recommended.
How to adjust the tweeter attenuation switch?
If your room has very reflective surfaces (bare walls, hard floors), the sound may seem too bright. Set the switch to Cut to reduce the tweeter level without affecting frequency response, achieving a warmer, more natural sound. Otherwise, leave it on Normal.
What is the warranty of the LCI-RTS-C speaker?
Polk Audio warrants the speakers, crossovers and enclosures against defects in materials and workmanship for 5 years from the original purchase. Electronic components (not present here) are warranted for 3 years. Keep your receipt and register the product on the Polk Audio website within 10 days of purchase.
Can I use this speaker as surround?
The RTSc model is optimized for the center channel. For surrounds, use the RTSfx model which has specific switches (Solid/Diffuse, Wall Dist.) for surround positioning. The RTSc can technically be used elsewhere, but performance will not be optimal.
How to clean the speaker?
Use a dry cloth to wipe the surface. Never use liquid or abrasive products. For the cloth grille, gentle dusting is sufficient. If you need to paint the aluminum grille, follow the painting instructions.
What wire gauge to use for installation?
For distances under 8 m, use gauge 18 or 16. Between 8 and 15 m: 16 or 14. Between 15 and 22 m: 14 or 12. Beyond 22 m: 12. A larger gauge (14 or more) is recommended for optimal sound quality.
How to avoid hearing damage with this speaker?
Polk speakers can generate very high sound levels. Limit prolonged exposure to over 85 dB. Use a reasonable volume and take breaks. Polk Audio disclaims any liability for hearing loss due to misuse.
