How to install the Buffalo LS-WTGL for the first time?

Insert the provided LinkNavigator CD-ROM into your computer, then click 'Begin Installation' and follow the 'Easy Setup' wizard. On Mac, open the CD and launch LinkNavigator. At the end, two icons appear on the desktop: the LinkStation shortcut and NAS Navigator.

How to access files stored on the NAS from my PC?

Double-click the 'Shortcut for LinkStation' icon on your desktop. You will see a 'Share' folder where you can store and retrieve files. You can also use the NAS IP address via Windows Explorer by typing \\.

What are the default credentials to access the configuration interface?

The default username is admin and the password is password. It is strongly recommended to change them upon first login for security reasons.

How to modify the NAS settings?

Launch Buffalo NAS Navigator (icon on the desktop). Click 'Setup' then 'Configuration Settings'. A web interface will open with network, sharing, and security settings.

Is the NAS compatible with Mac?

Yes, it is compatible with Mac OS 10.3 and later. Use the LinkNavigator CD to install the software, then connect via Finder using 'Connect to Server' and the IP address (smb://).

How to connect the NAS to my wireless network?

The LS-WTGL does not have built-in Wi-Fi. It must be connected via an Ethernet cable to your router. If it is to be used wirelessly, connect it to a powerline adapter or a Wi-Fi access point.

Can I access my files from outside?

Yes, you can enable the FTP server or configure Internet access from the configuration interface. Caution: exposing the NAS to the Internet poses security risks; it is recommended to use a VPN or properly configure firewalls.

How to reset the password if I forgot it?

If you forgot the password, you must reset the NAS to factory settings. Press and hold the 'Reset' button on the back for several seconds. All data will be preserved but network and security settings will be erased.

What backup options are available?

The NAS supports backup via SMB, FTP, or using the provided software. You can configure scheduled backups from the configuration interface.

What to do if the NAS is not detected by the software?

Check that the Ethernet cable is properly connected and that your computer is on the same network. Try restarting the NAS. Use the NAS Navigator tool for manual search. If nothing works, reset the NAS to factory settings.

Note: Leave the Power Mode switch in the Manual position until installation is complete.

Insert the LinkNavigator CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive. If Setup doesn't launch automatically, you can launch it manually by clicking Start, then Run.... When the Run dialog opens, type d:\setup.exe (where "d" is the drive letter of your CD-ROM). Press OK to continue. (Fig: 2)

Click on Begin Installation (Fig: 3) and select the Easy Setup option (Fig: 4). The wizard will guide you through the installation.

Click on the Complete button to finish the setup of your LinkStation (Fig: 5).

If you are installing the software on a Mac, open the CD and click the LinkNavigator icon to begin installation. (Fig: 6)

The wizard will launch (Fig: 7) and guide you through the installation.

If you're using a Windows PC, two new icons will be on your desktop: Shortcut for LinkStation and Buffalo NAS Navigator. (Fig: 9)

The LinkStation shortcut will take you directly to the folders on your LinkStation. Share is the main folder that you can put files and folders in. Info contains a copy of your user manual. (Fig: 10)

The Buffalo NAS Navigator icon opens the LinkStation's client utility. (Fig:11) This lets you easily view system information for your LinkStation(s). If you click Setup and choose Configuration Settings, it will take you to the settings configuration GUI, where you may change your LinkStation's settings. Until you change it, the GUI's username is "admin" and the password is "password". Consult your user manual for more information on the Buffalo NAS Navigator and the settings configuration GUI.

After installing the LinkNavigator software, your Mac will have new icons on the desktop and in the Dock. The LS-ProDuoSettings.txt file contains the IP address of your LinkStation. NASNavigator is the LinkStation's client utility.

Clicking NASNavigator opens the LinkStation's client utility. (Fig: 13) This lets you easily view system information for your LinkStation and change its settings. Consult your user manual for more information on the Buffalo NAS Navigator.

With the information in the LS-ProDuoSettings.txt file, (Fig: 14)you can easily connect to the LinkStation from any of your computers on your local network.

From the Finder, click Go, and then choose Connect to Server. In the Server Address field, enter your LinkStation's IP address in the form smb://ipaddress (where "ipaddress" is your LinkStation's IP address), and click Connect. (Fig: 15) You can get your LinkStation's IP address from the LS-ProDuoSettings.txt file on your desktop.

Select Guest and click on Connect. Note: If you have configured share permissions on your LinkStation, select Registered User and enter your login credentials. (Fig: 16)
