Frequently Asked Questions - HSC 200 SR AKG

How to connect the HSC 200 SR headset?
Plug the 3.5 mm stereo jack of the headphone into the audio output of your device (6.3 mm adapter provided). Connect the microphone via the XLR 3-pin connector to a microphone input with phantom power (9-52 V).
What type of phantom power is required for the microphone?
The HSC 200 SR microphone requires phantom power per DIN 45596 of 9 to 52 V (12, 24 or 48 V). Current consumption is less than 3 mA.
Can I replace the ear pads of the headset?
Yes, the ear pads are interchangeable and washable. You can order part number 2456Z3201 for replacement ear pads.
How to clean the headset?
The ear pads can be washed with mild soapy water. Avoid spilling liquid on the headset and never immerse the device in water. Wipe the housing with a dry cloth.
Is the headset suitable for noisy environments?
The HSC 200 SR is a semi-open headset: it lets through some ambient sound so you are not completely isolated, but offers good protection against external noise, especially high frequencies.
What is the sensitivity of the headphone?
The sensitivity is 100 dB SPL for 1 mW. Impedance is 100 Ω per system.
How to position the microphone for optimal sound?
Use the gooseneck to position the microphone 3-5 cm from the corner of the lips. This avoids pops and ensures optimal performance thanks to the cardioid polar pattern.
Is the headphone cable detachable?
The cable is fixed and has a length of 3 meters, single-sided. It is not detachable.
What adapter is included for the jack plug?
A 3.5 mm to 6.3 mm adapter is included, allowing connection to standard audio outputs.
Is the microphone sensitive to handling noise?
The microphone is mounted on an elastic suspension which eliminates handling noise, especially from the cable, ensuring clear audio capture.

USER MANUAL HSC 200 SR AKG

Thank you for purchasing the HSC 200 SR. You have selected a professional headset with a number of unique features. Please take a few minutes to read this manual. It contains important information on how to use your headset.

2. Precautions

  1. Spill no liquids on the equipment and do not drop any objects through any openings in the equipment.
  2. Do not place the equipment near heat sources such as radiators, heating ducts, or amplifiers and do not expose it to direct sunlight, excessive dust, moisture, rain, mechanical vibrations, or shock.

3. Components

The HSC 200 SR consists of the following components:

  • Headphones
  • Microphone

3.1. Headphones

The headphones are a semi-open design. While it allows some ambient sound to pass through the ear-cups so you will not be totally isolated from your surroundings, it affords a certain amount of protection, particularly at high frequencies.

The earcups are ergonomically, flexibly suspended. The ear pads are replaceable and easy to clean (order no. 2456Z3201).

3.2. Microphone

The electret microphone rests in a shock mount that suppresses vibrational noise, particularly cable noise. Align the goosenek to place the microphone aprx. 3 to 5cm (1 to 2 inches) in front of the left corner of your mouth. This placement prevents pop noise and provides optimum efficiency.

The microphone has a cardioid pickup pattern. It picks up sound from in front of it (your words) and suppresses sounds coming from behind it.

4. Powering

To power the HSC 200 SR, use a phantom power supply to DIN 45596. This standard specifies a positive voltage of 12, 24, or 48V fed to the audio lines with reference to the cable shield.

You can add phantom power to almost any type of input:

4.1. Input stage using transformer with center tap (floating)

4.2. Input stage using transformer with no center tap (floating)

AKG HSC 200 SR - Powering - 2

4.3. Adding phantom power to unbalanced inputs

If the input stage is grounded or transformerless, wire either capacitors or additional transformers into the audio lines in order to protect the input stage from leakage currents:
