Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. - Always place the unit on a level, heat-resistant work surface impervious to splashes and stains and with sufficient surrounding space. Do not place it underneath any wall-cupboards or hanging objects, nor directly by a wall or in a corner.
- Caution: do not operate the appliance outdoors.
- Oil/fat that has been used many times before may ignite when overheated. If this occurs, remove the plug from the wall socket and place the lid on the appliance in order to smother the flames. Never pour water onto hot or burning oil or fat.
- Never move or carry the appliance when it is hot, i.e. during or immediately after use (because of the danger of tripping). Exercise extreme caution: hot oil or fat can cause severe burns.
- Caution: some parts of the appliance become hot during operation, and dangerously hot vapour may be emitted from the lid.
- Do not touch hot oil/fat with your fingers.
- Do not insert any plastic cutlery into hot oil or fat. Do not pour hot oil/fat into plastic containers.
- The power cord should be regularly examined for any signs of damage. In the event of such damage being found, the appliance must no longer be used.
-
When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
-
Do not allow the power cord to hang free; the cord must be kept well away from hot parts of the appliance.

Operating features
Lid
The lid may be removed for cleaning by first pulling it up into a vertical position, then closing it slightly and pulling it out.
Inspection window
The inspection window is helpful when monitoring the frying process. To prevent condensation from water vapour, a little oil should be applied to the inside of the window.
Frying container
Fill level:
During the pre-heating phase, the oil level must be between the minimum and maximum marks, which can be found inside the container.
The maximum capacity of the container is
approx. 1.2-1.5 litres.
Before filling the container with the required quantity of oil, the frying basket should be removed.
Types of oil or fat to be used:
We recommend the use of vegetable oil or fat specifically intended for deep-frying which may be safely heated to a temperature of 220^ and has a neutral taste.
Do not mix different kinds of oil or fat.
Frying basket
The basket is designed to hold the food to be fried.
Always fit the handle to the basket before use. To attach the handle, press the two together and insert the angled pieces into the corresponding openings (diagram I). Then press the rods together again to lock them behind the tabs (diagram II).
Indicator lights
The red main indicator light remains lit as long as the appliance is connected to the mains.
The green light comes on once the pre-set temperature level has been reached.
As soon as the temperature falls below a certain level, heating will resume and the green indicator light will go out.
Temperature control
The temperature control knob sets the temperature to the desired level.
Before using for the first time
Before the appliance is connected to the mains, it should be cleaned as follows:
The frying container and the inside of the lid should be wiped with a damp cloth. Remove the frying basket and wash it thoroughly in hot water. To prevent any water from mixing with the oil, all parts must be thoroughly dried.
Fill the container with approx 1.5 litres of vegetable oil/fat.
Operation
- Ensure that the oil level is between the min. and max. level marks.
- Place the basket in the frying container and close the lid.
- Insert the plug into a suitable wall socket. The red indicator light comes on.
- Use the temperature control knob to select the desired level.
- Allow the deep fryer to pre-heat. The green indicator light comes on once the pre-set temperature has been reached.
- Open the lid.
- Lift out the frying basket and place the food to be fried into the basket.
- Replace the basket in the frying container.
- Close the lid
- Once the food has been fried, open the lid and lift up the basket to allow the oil to drain off. For this purpose, the basket may be hung on the rim of the container.
- After frying is complete, turn the temperature control knob back and remove the plug from the wall socket. The red indicator light goes out.
Useful facts about deep-frying
Food cooked in oil is especially tasty and nourishing.
When the food is put into the hot oil, its pores are immediately sealed as a result of the high temperature, thereby preventing fat from entering the food or its juices from escaping.
In this way, essential proteins, vitamins and minerals are preserved.
Please observe the following:
- Only pure vegetable oil should be used with this deep fryer. It can be heated up to 220^ and has a neutral taste.
- Do not mix different kinds of oil.
- The quality of over-used oil cannot be improved by mixing it with fresh oil. The fresh oil would also be spoilt after a short while.
- To prevent the oil from frothing up,
make sure that the food is quite dry. Take special care to defrost deep-frozen food thoroughly before frying. Moisture reduces the life-span of frying oil.
- For good results, the right temperature setting is a decisive factor when deep-frying food. If the oil is not sufficiently hot, the food may take in too much oil. It is therefore best to insert the food basket only once the pre-heating period is complete. If the oil is too hot, on the other hand, an outer crust will be built up while the inner part of the food remains uncooked
- Deep-frozen or chilled food should be briefly inserted into the hot oil once or twice before the actual cooking process begins.
- Do not fry too much food at once. Each item should be able to float freely without touching any other.
- When cooking battered food, make sure that the batter is firmly attached to the food and any excess flour is removed.
- Over-used frying oil is easily recognisable as it is of a darker colour and more viscous, giving off an unpleasant smell or tending to foam.
- Over-used frying oil or oil containing a residue of particles from earlier use is more inflammable and tends to ignite easily. It is therefore best to change the oil after 3 or 4 cycles of use. However, its life-span depends mainly on the kind and quantity of food fried.
- The life span can be extended if the oil is filtered after each cycle of use.
- The oil may be stored inside the deep fryer if the unit is kept closed and put in a cool place.
General care and cleaning
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has completely cooled down.
- Caution: to avoid the risk of electric
shock, do not clean the outside of the fryer or its power cord with any liquids and do not immerse either of them in water.
- Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
- The lid may be removed for cleaning by first pulling it up into a vertical position, then closing it slightly and pulling it out.
- The lid contains a grease filter which must be replaced after several frying cycles. Release the filter cover and take out the old filter. Clean the lid using a damp cloth and a little detergent. Wipe thoroughly dry afterwards. Insert a new fat filter and replace the filter cover.
Replacement filters can be ordered through the Severin Service Centre.
- To remove the fat from the container, wait until it has cooled down sufficiently but is still liquid. Then pour it into a suitable heat-resistant container. The fat can be filtered by pouring it through absorbent paper placed into a heat-resistant funnel or in the frying basket itself.
- Do not pour fat down the kitchen sink. Once cold, it may be disposed of together with your household refuse.
The inside of the frying container can be cleaned by wiping it first with household tissue paper and then with a damp, lint-free cloth, using a mild household detergent. Wipe the container thoroughly dry afterwards with a dry cloth.
- The frying basket should be cleaned after use with hot soapy water.
- The exterior of the housing may be cleaned with a damp, lint-free cloth.
Disposal

Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
