How to change the chuck of the Bosch GSB 18V-60 C drill?

Turn the chuck ring counterclockwise to loosen, then insert the bit or drill. Tighten firmly by turning clockwise. The chuck is keyless.

Which battery to use with this model?

Use exclusively Bosch Professional 18V batteries (e.g., model GBA 18V...). Batteries from other brands are not compatible.

How to activate the hammer function?

Slide the mode selector located above the trigger to the hammer symbol. Use this mode for drilling into masonry and concrete.

What is the difference between the two speeds?

The first speed (0-600 rpm) offers high torque for screwdriving. The second speed (0-1900 rpm) allows fast drilling. Select the speed using the switch on top of the tool.

How to clean the drill?

Disconnect the battery. Clean the housing with a slightly damp cloth. Never use solvents or abrasive products. The ventilation slots can be blown out with compressed air.

What to do if the drill does not start?

Check that the battery is charged and properly inserted. Ensure the rotation direction is not in the neutral position (spindle lock). If the problem persists, contact Bosch after-sales service.

Can the drill be used for driving wood screws?

Yes, in drilling mode (without hammer) with the first speed. Set the torque on the adjustment ring to avoid overtightening and damaging the screw or material.

How to adjust the tightening torque?

Turn the torque adjustment ring located behind the chuck. The numbers (1-20) indicate the torque level. The higher the number, the stronger the torque. The drill symbol corresponds to the maximum torque.

Is the drill equipped with LED lighting?

Yes, an LED located above the trigger lights up automatically when you press the trigger, illuminating the work area.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING Read all safety warnings and all instruc-

tions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

• Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  ▶ Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
• Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

▶ Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
▶ Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
▶ Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
▶ Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
▶ When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
▶ If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
▶ Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
▶ Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
▶ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
▶ Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

Power tool use and care

▶ Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
▶ Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
▶ Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
▶ Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
▶ Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
▶ Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

Battery tool use and care

▶ Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
▶ Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
▶ Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

Service

▶ Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

▶ Wear ear protectors when impact drilling. Exposure to noise can cause hearing loss.

Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting accessory or fastener may contact hidden wiring. Cutting accessory and fasteners contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
▶ Use auxiliary handle(s), if supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
▶ Use appropriate detectors to determine if utility lines are hidden in the work area or call the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric lines can lead to fire and electric shock. Damaging a gas line can lead to explosion. Penetrating a water line causes property damage.
Switch off the power tool immediately when the tool insert jams. Be prepared for high reaction torque that can cause kickback. The tool insert jams when: - the power tool is subject to overload or - it becomes wedged in the workpiece.
▶ Hold the machine with a firm grip. High reaction torque can briefly occur while driving in and loosening screws.
▶ Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand.
▶ Always wait until the machine has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The tool insert can jam and lead to loss of control over the power tool.
▶ Do not open the battery. Danger of short-circuiting.

Protect the battery against heat, e. g., against continuous intense sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. Danger of explosion.

In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. Ventilate the area and seek medical help in case of complaints. The vapours can irritate the respiratory system.
▶ Use the battery only in conjunction with your Bosch power tool. This measure alone protects the battery against dangerous overload.
The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit can occur and the battery can burn, smoke, explode or overheat.
The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery capacity, completely charge the battery in the battery charger before using for the first time.

▶ Read the operating instructions of the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 30-4.

▶ Adjust the gear switch only when the machine is at a complete stop.
▶ Always push the gear selector and turn the operating mode selector switch through to the stop. Otherwise, the machine can become damaged.
Before any work on the machine (e.g., maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as during transport and storage, set the rotational direction switch to the centre position. Unintentional actuation of the On/Off switch can lead to injuries.
▶ Caution! When using the power tool with Bluetooth ^® , interference can occur with other devices and equipment, aircraft and medical devices (e.g. pacemakers, hearing aids). Also, damage to people and animals in the immediate vicinity cannot be completely excluded. Do not use the power tool with Bluetooth ^® near medical devices, petrol stations, chemical plants, in areas where there is a danger of explosion and where blasting takes place. Do not use the power tool with Bluetooth ^® in aircraft. Avoid using the product near your body for extended periods.

Intended Use

The machine is intended for driving in and loosening screws as well as for drilling in wood, metal, ceramics and plastic. GSB machines are additionally intended for impact drilling in bricks, brickwork and masonry.

The light of this power tool is intended to illuminate the power tool's direct area of working operation and is not suitable for household room illumination.

With the Bluetooth ^® Low Energy Module GCY 30-4 inserted, data and settings of the power tool can be transferred between the power tool and a mobile terminal device by means of Bluetooth ^® wireless technology.

The vibration level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure. The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or insertion tools or is poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This

may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.

An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period.

Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.

Battery Charging

Note: The battery supplied is partially charged. To ensure full capacity of the battery, completely charge the battery in the battery charger before using your power tool for the first time. The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging procedure does not damage the battery.

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharging by the "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)". When the battery is empty, the machine is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The inserted tool no longer rotates.

▶ Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after the machine has been automatically switched off. The battery can be damaged.

Removing the battery

The battery 7 is equipped with two locking levels that should prevent the battery from falling out when pushing the battery unlocking button 8 unintentionally. As long as the battery is inserted in the power tool, it is held in position by means of a spring.

To remove the battery 7, press the unlocking button 8 and pull out the battery toward the front. Do not exert any force.

Changing the Tool (see figure A)

Before any work on the machine itself (e.g. maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as during transport and storage, remove the battery from the power tool. There is danger of injury when unintentionally actuating the On/Off switch.

Open the keyless chuck 2 by turning in rotation direction ①, until the tool can be inserted. Insert the tool.

Firmly tighten the collar of the keyless chuck 2 by hand in rotation direction ②. This automatically locks the drill chuck.

Dust/Chip Extraction

Dust from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one's health and cause allergic reactions, lead to respiratory infections and/or cancer. Materials containing asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
- Provide for good ventilation of the working place. - It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator. Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the materials to be worked.
▶ Prevent dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can easily ignite.

Operation

Starting Operation

Inserting the battery

Note: Use of batteries not suitable for the machine can lead to malfunctions of or cause damage to the power tool.

Set the rotational direction switch 12 to the centre position in order to avoid unintentional starting. Insert the charged battery 7 into the handle so that it can be felt to engage and faces flush against the handle.

Reversing the rotational direction (see figure B)

The rotational direction switch 12 is used to reverse the rotational direction of the machine. However, this is not possible with the On/Off switch 13 actuated.

Rotate clockwise: Move the rotational direction switch 12 on both sides up to the stop into position

Rotate anticlockwise: Move the rotational direction switch 12 on both sides up to the stop into position

Setting the operating mode

Drilling

GSR 18V-60 C:

Set the torque selector setting ring 3 to the required torque.

GSB 18V-60 C:

Set the operating mode selector switch 4 to the "drilling" symbol.

Screwdriving

GSR 18V-60 C:

Set the torque selector setting ring 3 to the "screwdriving" symbol.

GSB 18V-60 C:

Switching On and Off

To start the machine, press the On/Off switch 13 and keep it pressed.

The LED 10 lights up when the On/Off switch 13 is halfway or fully pressed, and enables illumination of the screwing location in unfavourable light conditions.

To save energy, only switch the power tool on when using it.

Adjusting the Speed

The speed of the switched-on power tool can be variably adjusted, depending on how far the On/Off switch 13 is pressed.

Light pressure on the On/Off switch 13 results in a low rotational speed. Further pressure on the switch results in an increase in speed.

Setting the torque

With the torque preselection ring 3, the required torque can be preselected in 20 steps. The inserted tool is stopped as soon as the set torque is reached.

Gear selection, mechanical

The gear selector 5 can be actuated at standstill or when the machine is running. However, this should not be done while operating at full load or maximum speed.

1st gear:

Low speed range; for working with large drilling diameters.

2nd gear:

High speed range; for drilling with small drilling diameter.

Temperature Dependent Overload Protection

In normal conditions of use, the power tool cannot be overloaded. If the power tool is overloaded or not kept within the permitted operating temperature range, the speed is reduced. The power tool will not run at full speed again until the permitted operating temperature has been reached.

Activation of the temperature-controlled overload protector is indicated by the LED 10 on the power tool lighting up red. To reach the permitted operating temperature range again, either switch the gear selector 5 to gear 1, run the power tool at no load or wait until the LED 10 extinguishes. When the LED 10 has extinguished, the tool has reached the permitted operating temperature range again.

Protection Against Deep Discharging

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharging by the "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)". When the battery is empty, the machine is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The inserted tool no longer rotates.

Rapid Shut-off

The rapid shut-off feature enables better control of the power tool. The power tool shuts off in case of sudden and unexpected rotation of the power tool around the drilling axis.

The rapid shut-off feature is indicated by a flashing LED on the power tool.

To restart the machine, release the On/Off switch and then actuate again.

▶ Rapid shut-off can trigger only when the power tool is running at maximum operating speed and can rotate freely around the drill bit axis. Choose a suitable work position for this. Otherwise, rapid shut-off will not be ensured.

Working Advice

The power tool with inserted Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 30-4 (accessory) is equipped with a radio interface. Local operating restrictions, e.g. in aircraft or hospitals, must be observed.

▶ Apply the power tool to the screw only when it is switched off. Rotating tool inserts can slip off.

An auxiliary tool can be used to remove the screwdriver bit or universal bit holder.

Belt Clip

With the belt clip 6, the machine can be hung onto a belt. The user has both hands free and the machine is always at hand.

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and Cleaning

Before any work on the machine itself (e.g. maintenance, tool change, etc.) as well as during transport and storage, remove the battery from the power tool. There is danger of injury when unintentionally actuating the On/Off switch.

Transport

The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject to the Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements. The user can transport the batteries by road without further requirements.

When being transported by third parties (e.g.: air transport or forwarding agency), special requirements on packaging and labelling must be observed. For preparation of the item being shipped, consulting an expert for hazardous material is required.

Dispatch batteries only when the housing is undamaged.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING

Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifica-

tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

▶ Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.

▶ Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

▶ Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

▶ Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

▶ Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.

▶ Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.

▶ Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.

Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

▶ Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a

power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.

▶ Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
▶ Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
▶ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
▶ Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
▶ If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
▶ Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

Power tool use and care

▶ Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
▶ Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
▶ Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
▶ Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power

tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

▶ Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
▶ Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
▶ Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Battery tool use and care

▶ Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
▶ Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
▶ Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
▶ Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
▶ Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130° C may cause explosion.
▶ Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Service

▶ Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
▶ Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

Safety instructions for circular saws

Cutting procedures

▶ DANGER: Keep hands away from cutting area and the blade. Keep your second hand on auxiliary handle, or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
▶ Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
▶ Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.
▶ Never hold the workpiece in your hands or across your leg while cutting. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimise body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
▶ Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a "live" wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
▶ When ripping always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
▶ Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbour holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run off-centre, causing loss of control.
▶ Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolt. The blade washers and bolt were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

Kickback causes and related warnings

- kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, jammed or mis-aligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator;

- when the blade is pinched or jammed tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator;

- if the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the wood causing the blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator.

Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.

Maintain a firm grip with both hands on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade. Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken.
When blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a com-

plete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.

When restarting a saw in the workpiece, centre the saw blade in the kerf so that the saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If a saw blade binds, it may walk up or kickback from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.
▶ Support large panels to minimise the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel.
▶ Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.
▶ Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making the cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kickback.
▶ Use extra caution when sawing into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.

Lower guard function

▶ Check the lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if the lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie the lower guard into the open position. If the saw is accidentally dropped, the lower guard may be bent. Raise the lower guard with the retracting handle and make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut.
▶ Check the operation of the lower guard spring. If the guard and the spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up of debris.
The lower guard may be retracted manually only for special cuts such as "plunge cuts" and "compound cuts". Raise the lower guard by the retracting handle and as soon as the blade enters the material, the lower guard must be released. For all other sawing, the lower guard should operate automatically.
▶ Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing the saw down on bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after switch is released.

Additional safety warnings

▶ Do not allow the chip ejector to come into contact with your hands. You may be injured by rotating parts.
▶ Do not use the saw above the level of your head. Doing so will mean you have inadequate control of the power tool.

▶ Use suitable detectors to determine if there are hidden supply lines or contact the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric cables can cause fire and electric shock. Damaging gas lines can lead to explosion. Breaking water pipes causes property damage.
▶ Do not operate the power tool when stationary. It is not suitable for operation with a saw table.
When performing plunge cuts which are not right-angled, secure the guide plate of the saw so that it will not shift sideways. In the event of a sideways shift, the saw blade may become jammed, which could lead to kick-back.
- Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more secure than by hand.
▶ Do not use HSS saw blades. Such saw blades can easily break.
▶ Do not saw any ferrous metals. Hot chips may ignite the dust extractor.
▶ Wear a dust mask.
In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. The battery can set alight or explode. Ensure the area is well ventilated and seek medical attention should you experience any adverse effects. The vapours may irritate the respiratory system.
▶ Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuiting.
The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit may occur, causing the battery to burn, smoke, explode or overheat.
▶ Only use the battery with products from the manufacturer. This is the only way in which you can protect the battery against dangerous overload.

Protect the battery against heat, e.g. against continuous intense sunlight, fire, water and moisture. There is a risk of explosion.

▶ Always wait until the power tool has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The application tool can jam and cause you to lose control of the power tool.

▶ Hold the power tool firmly with both hands and make sure you have a stable footing. The power tool can be more securely guided with both hands.

The vibration level and noise emission value given in these instructions have been measured in accordance with a standardised measuring procedure and may be used to com-

pare power tools. They may also be used for a preliminary estimation of vibration and noise emissions.

The stated vibration level and noise emission value represent the main applications of the power tool. However, if the power tool is used for other applications, with different application tools or is poorly maintained, the vibration level and noise emission value may differ. This may significantly increase the vibration and noise emissions over the total working period.

To estimate vibration and noise emissions accurately, the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually being used should also be taken into account. This may significantly reduce vibration and noise emissions over the total working period.

Implement additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration, such as servicing the power tool and application tools, keeping their hands warm, and organising workflows correctly.

Fitting

▶ Only use saw blades the maximum permitted speed of which is higher than the no-load speed of the power tool.

Charging the Battery

▶ Use only the chargers listed on the accessories page.

Only these chargers are matched to the lithium-ion battery of your power tool.

Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery capacity, fully charge the battery in the charger before using your power tool for the first time.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging process does not damage the battery.

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharge by the "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)". When the battery is discharged, the power tool is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The application tool no longer rotates.

▶ Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after the power tool has automatically switched off. The battery can be damaged.

Follow the instructions on correct disposal.

Removing the battery

The battery (3) is equipped with two locking levels to prevent the battery from falling out if the battery release button (24) is pressed unintentionally. As long as the battery is inserted in the power tool, it is held in position by means of a spring.

To remove the battery (3), press the release button (24) and pull the battery to the rear and out of the power tool. Do not use force to do this.

Battery charge indicator (see figure F)

The three green LEDs of the battery charge indicator (32) indicate the state of charge of the battery (3). For safety reas-

ons, it is only possible to check the state of charge when the power tool is at a standstill. Press the button (31) to show the state of charge. This is also possible when the battery (3) is removed.

If no LED lights up after pressing the button (31), then the battery is defective and must be replaced.

Inserting/changing the circular saw blade

▶ Remove the battery before carrying out any work on the power tool.
▶ Wear protective gloves when fitting the saw blade. Danger of injury when touching the saw blade.
▶ Only use saw blades that match the specifications given in this operating manual and that are tested and marked in accordance with EN 847-1
The permitted speed of the application tool must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. If accessories run faster than their rated speed, they may break and fly off.
▶ Do not use abrasive wheels as the application tool under any circumstances.

Selecting the saw blade

You will find an overview of recommended saw blades at the end of these operating instructions.

Removing the saw blade (see figure A)

To change tools, we recommend that you place the power tool down on the front side of the motor housing.

• Press and hold the spindle lock button (14).
  ▶ Do not press the spindle lock button (14) while the saw spindle is moving. The power tool may become damaged if this happens.
• Use the hex key (16) to undo the clamping bolt (22) in rotational direction ①.
• Swing the retracting blade guard (7) back and hold on to it firmly.
• Remove the clamping flange (21) and the saw blade (20) from the saw spindle (18).

Fitting the saw blade (see figure A)

To change tools, we recommend that you place the power tool down on the front side of the motor housing.

• Clean the saw blade (20) and all the clamping elements to be fitted.
• Swing the retracting blade guard (7) back and hold on to it firmly.

• Place the saw blade (20) on the mounting flange (19). The cutting direction of the teeth (direction of the arrow on the saw blade) must match the rotational direction of the arrow on the protective guard (7).

• Attach the clamping flange (21) and screw in the clamping bolt (22) in rotational direction ②. Ensure that the mounting flange (19) and clamping flange (21) are installed in the correct position.

• Press and hold the spindle lock button (14).
• Use the hex key (16) to tighten the clamping bolt (22) in rotational direction ②. The tightening torque should be 6–9 Nm, which corresponds to hand-tight plus ¼ turn or three graduation marks of the marking (23) on the protective guard (4).

Dust/chip extraction

The dust from materials such as lead paint, certain types of wood, minerals and metal can be harmful to human health. Touching or breathing in this dust can trigger allergic reactions and/or cause respiratory illnesses in the user or in people in the near vicinity.

Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are classified as carcinogenic, especially in conjunction with wood treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be machined by specialists.

• To achieve a high level of dust extraction, use the dust extractor GAS 25/GAS 50/GAS 50 M for wood or GAS 50 MS for wood and/or mineral dust together with this power tool.
• Provide good ventilation at the workplace.
• It is advisable to wear a P2 filter class breathing mask.

The regulations on the material being machined that apply in the country of use must be observed.

- Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can easily ignite.

Fitting the dust extraction adapter (see figure B)

Fasten the dust extraction adapter (26) to the base plate (6) using the fastening screw (25).

A dust extraction hose with a diameter of 35 mm can be connected to the dust extraction adapter (26).

The dust extraction adapter must only be fitted if an external dust extraction system is connected. Otherwise the extraction duct can become clogged.

▶ No dust bags should be connected to the dust extraction adapter. Otherwise the extraction system can become clogged.

To ensure optimum extraction, the dust extraction adapter (26) must be cleaned regularly.

External dust extraction

Connect the dust extraction hose (27) to a dust extractor (accessory). You will find an overview of how to connect to various dust extractors at the end of these operating instructions.

The dust extractor must be suitable for the material being worked.

When extracting dry dust that is especially detrimental to health or carcinogenic, use a special dust extractor.

Operation

Operating modes

▶ Remove the battery before carrying out any work on the power tool.

Setting the cutting depth (see figure C)

Adapt the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. A space of less than the height of one full tooth should be visible under the workpiece.

Loosen the clamping lever (29). For a smaller cutting depth, pull the saw away from the base plate (6); for a larger cutting depth, push the saw towards the base plate (6). Adjust the desired cutting depth at the cutting-depth scale. Retighten the clamping lever (29).

The clamping force of the clamping lever (29) can be readjusted. To do so, unscrew the clamping lever (29) and retighten it in a position offset by at least 30° in an anticlockwise direction.

Adjusting the mitre/bevel angle

We recommend that you place the power tool down on the front side of the protective guard (4).

Loosen the wing bolt (11). Swivel the saw to the side. Set the required mitre angle on the scale (13). Retighten the wing bolt (11).

Note: When making mitre cuts, the cutting depth is less than the value shown on the cutting depth scale (28).

Cut marks

The 0° cut mark (9) indicates the position of the saw blade when making a right-angled cut. The 45° cut mark (10) indicates the position of the saw blade when making a 45° cut. For a precise cut, place the circular saw against the workpiece as shown in the figure. We recommend making a test cut.

Start-up

Inserting the battery

▶ Use only original Bosch lithium-ion batteries with the voltage stated on the type plate of your power tool.

Using other batteries can lead to injuries and pose a fire hazard.

Slide the charged battery (3) into the foot of the power tool from the front. Press the battery fully into the foot until the red stripe is no longer visible and the battery is securely locked.

Switching on/off

To start the power tool, first press the lock-off switch (1), then press and hold the on/off switch (2).

To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (2).

Note: For safety reasons, the on/off switch (2) cannot be locked; it must remain pressed during the entire operation.

Run-out brake

An integrated run-out brake shortens the time the saw blade keeps running for after the power tool has been switched off.

Protection Against Deep Discharging

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharge by the Electronic Cell Protection (ECP). When the battery is discharged, the power tool is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The application tool no longer rotates.

Practical advice

Protect saw blades against shock and impact.

Guide the power tool evenly, pushing it gently in the cutting direction. Applying too much pressure to the power tool when moving it in the cutting direction significantly reduces the service life of the application tools and can damage the power tool.

The sawing performance and the quality of the cut essentially depend on the condition and the tooth shape of the saw blade. This is why you should only use sharp saw blades that are suitable for the material being machined.

Sawing wood

Choosing the right saw blade depends on the wood type, wood quality and whether cuts with or against the grain are required.

Making cuts in spruce with the grain produces long, spiral-shaped chips.

Beech and oak dust is especially detrimental to health.

Therefore, work only with dust extraction.

Sawing with the parallel guide (see figure D)

The parallel guide (8) allows you to make precise cuts along the edge of a workpiece and cut strips with the same dimensions.

Sawing with an auxiliary guide (see figure E)

For working on large workpieces or for cutting straight edges, you can securely fasten a board or rail to the workpiece as an auxiliary guide. The circular saw can be guided along the path of this auxiliary guide with the base plate.

Sawing with the guide rail (see figure G)

You can use the guide rail (33) to produce straight cuts.

Note: Only use the guide rail (33) for right-angled cuts. Attempting mitre/bevel cuts could damage the guide rail (33).

The adhesive layer prevents the guide rail from slipping and preserves the surface of the workpiece. The guide rail's coating allows the power tool to glide more easily.

Place the circular saw directly on the guide rail (33). Fasten the guide rail (33) to the workpiece using suitable clamping

devices, e.g. screw clamps, so that the narrow side of the guide rail (33) is facing the saw blade.

The guide rail (33) must not protrude over the edge of the workpiece being sawn into.

Switch on the power tool and push it gently in the cutting direction, guiding it evenly.

The connector (34) can be used to join two guide rails. The four screws in the connector are used for the purpose of clamping.

Recommendations for Optimal Handling of the Battery

Protect the battery against moisture and water.

Only store the battery within a temperature range of -20 to 50°C. Do not leave the battery in your car in the summer, for example.

Occasionally clean the ventilation slots on the battery using a soft brush that is clean and dry.

A significantly reduced operating time after charging indicates that the battery has deteriorated and must be replaced.

Follow the instructions on correct disposal.

Maintenance and Servicing

Maintenance and Cleaning

Remove the battery from the power tool before carrying out work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance, changing tool, etc.). The battery should also be removed for transport and storage. There is risk of injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.

▶ To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.

The retracting blade guard must always be able to move freely and retract automatically. It is therefore important to keep the area around the retracting blade guard clean at all times. Remove dust and chips with a paintbrush.

Non-coated saw blades can be protected against corrosion using a thin layer of acid-free oil. Remove the oil again before sawing as failure to do so will stain the wood.

Resin or glue residue on the saw blade has a detrimental effect on the quality of the cut. You should therefore clean saw blades straight after use.

The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject to the Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements. The batteries are suitable for road-transport by the user without further restrictions.

When shipping by third parties (e.g.: by air transport or forwarding agency), special requirements on packaging and labelling must be observed. For preparation of the item being shipped, consulting an expert for hazardous material is required.

Dispatch battery packs only when the housing is undamaged. Tape or mask off open contacts and pack up the battery in such a manner that it cannot move around in the packaging. Please also observe the possibility of more detailed national regulations.

Disposal

The machine, rechargeable batteries, accessories and packaging should be sorted for environmental-friendly recycling.

Do not dispose of power tools and batteries/rechargeable batteries into household waste!

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING

Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifica-

tions provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

▶ Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
▶ Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
▶ Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

▶ Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

▶ Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
▶ Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
▶ Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
▶ When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

▶ Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
▶ Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
▶ Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
▶ Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
▶ Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
▶ Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

Power tool use and care

▶ Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
▶ Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
▶ Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
▶ Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool's operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
▶ Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
▶ Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
▶ Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Battery tool use and care

▶ Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
▶ Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
▶ Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.

▶ Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
▶ Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130° C may cause explosion.
▶ Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Service

▶ Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
▶ Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

Safety instructions for jigsaws

▶ Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.
▶ Use clamps or another practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the workpiece by hand or against your body leaves it unstable and may lead to loss of control.
▶ Keep hands away from the sawing area. Do not reach under the workpiece. Contact with the saw blade can lead to injuries.
▶ Only bring the power tool into contact with the workpiece when switched on. Otherwise there is danger of kickback if the cutting tool jams in the workpiece.
▶ Ensure that the footplate always rests securely while sawing. A jammed saw blade can break or lead to kick-back.
When the cut is completed, switch off the power tool and then pull the saw blade out of the cut only after it has come to a standstill. In this manner you can avoid kickback and can place down the power tool securely.
▶ Always wait until the power tool has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The application tool can jam and cause you to lose control of the power tool.
▶ Use only undamaged saw blades that are in perfect condition. Bent or dull saw blades can break, negatively influence the cut, or lead to kickback.
▶ Do not brake the saw blade to a stop by applying side pressure after switching off. The saw blade can be damaged, break or cause kickback.
▶ Use suitable detectors to determine if there are hidden supply lines or contact the local utility company

for assistance. Contact with electric cables can cause fire and electric shock. Damaging gas lines can lead to explosion. Breaking water pipes causes property damage.

In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. The battery can set alight or explode. Ensure the area is well ventilated and seek medical attention should you experience any adverse effects. The vapours may irritate the respiratory system.
▶ Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuiting.
The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit may occur, causing the battery to burn, smoke, explode or overheat.
▶ Only use the battery with products from the manufacturer. This is the only way in which you can protect the battery against dangerous overload.

Protect the battery against heat, e.g. against continuous intense sunlight, fire, dirt, water and moisture. There is a risk of explosion and short-circuiting.

Intended Use

GST 18 V-LIS

The power tool is intended for making separating cuts and cut-outs in wood, plastic, metal, ceramic plates and rubber while resting firmly on the workpiece. It is suitable for straight and curved cuts. The saw blade recommendations are to be observed.

The vibration level and noise emission value given in these instructions have been measured in accordance with a standardised measuring procedure and may be used to compare power tools. They may also be used for a preliminary estimation of vibration and noise emissions.

The stated vibration level and noise emission value represent the main applications of the power tool. However, if the power tool is used for other applications, with different application tools or is poorly maintained, the vibration level and noise emission value may differ. This may significantly increase the vibration and noise emissions over the total working period.

To estimate vibration and noise emissions accurately, the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually being used should also be taken into account. This may significantly reduce vibration and noise emissions over the total working period.

Implement additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration, such as servicing the

power tool and application tools, keeping their hands warm, and organising workflows correctly.

Assembly

Remove the battery from the power tool before carrying out work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance, changing tool, etc.). The battery should also be removed for transport and storage. There is risk of injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.

Battery Charging

▶ Use only the chargers listed in the technical data. Only these chargers are matched to the lithium-ion battery of your power tool.

Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery capacity, fully charge the battery in the charger before using your power tool for the first time.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging process does not damage the battery.

The lithium-ion battery is protected against deep discharge by the "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)". When the battery is discharged, the power tool is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The application tool no longer rotates.

▶ Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after the power tool has automatically switched off. The battery can be damaged.

The battery (3) is equipped with two locking levels to prevent the battery from falling out if the battery release button (4) is pressed unintentionally. The battery is held in place by a spring when fitted in the power tool.

To remove the battery (3), press the release button (4) and pull the battery out of the power tool. Do not use force to do this.

Battery charge indicator

The green LEDs on the battery charge indicator (18) indicate the battery's state of charge (3). For safety reasons, it is only possible to check the state of charge when the power tool is not in operation.

Press the button for the battery charge indicator (17) to show the state of charge. This is also possible when the battery is removed.

If no LED lights up after pressing the button for the battery charge indicator (17), then the battery is defective and must be replaced.

Inserting/changing the saw blade

▶ When fitting or changing the saw blade, wear protective gloves. Blades are sharp and can become hot when used for prolonged periods of time.

Selecting the saw blade

You will find an overview of recommended saw blades at the end of these operating instructions. Only use saw blades with single lug shank (T shank). The saw blade should not be longer than required for the intended cut.

Use a narrow saw blade when sawing tight curves.

Inserting the saw blade (see figure C)

▶ Clean the shaft on the saw blade before inserting it. A dirty shaft cannot be securely fixed in place.

Push the saw blade (10), with the teeth in the cutting direction, into the saw blade receptacle (19) until it clicks into place. The SDS lever (11) automatically springs back and the saw blade is locked in place. Do not push the lever (11) back by hand as you could damage the power tool.

Make sure when inserting the saw blade that the back of the saw blade is in the groove on the guide roller (9).

▶ Check that the saw blade is seated securely. A loose saw blade can fall out and lead to injuries.

Ejecting the saw blade (see figure D)

▶ When ejecting the saw blade, hold the power tool in such a manner that no persons or animals can be injured by the ejected saw blade.

Turn the SDS lever (11) as far as it will go in the direction of the shock protection guard (13). The saw blade is released and ejected.

Glide shoe (see figure E)

The plastic guide plate (6) of the base plate (7) reduces scratching on sensitive surfaces. Use the steel glide shoe (20) when machining metal.

Fit the steel glide shoe (20) by sliding it onto the base plate (7) from the front.

The plastic guide plate (6) should be replaced if it is worn.

Anti-splinter guard (see figure F)

The anti-splinter guard (21) (accessory) can prevent splintering of the surface while sawing wood. The anti-splinter guard can only be used with certain saw blade types and only at a cutting angle of 0° . When sawing with the anti-splinter guard, the base plate (7) must not be moved to the rear for sawing close to edges.

Slide the anti-splinter guard (21) into the base plate (7) from the front.

Dust/Chip Extraction

The dust from materials such as lead paint, some types of wood, minerals and metal can be harmful to human health. Touching or breathing in this dust can trigger allergic reactions and/or cause respiratory illnesses in the user or in people in the near vicinity.

Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are classified as carcinogenic, especially in conjunction with wood treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be machined by specialists.

• Use a dust extraction system that is suitable for the material wherever possible.
• Provide good ventilation at the workplace.
• It is advisable to wear a P2 filter class breathing mask.

The regulations on the material being machined that apply in the country of use must be observed.

- Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can easily ignite.

Connecting the dust extraction (see figures G-H)

Fit the extraction outlet (22) in the recesses of the base plate (7).

Connect a dust extraction hose (23) (accessory) to the extraction outlet (22). Connect the dust extraction hose (23) to a dust extractor (accessory).

You will find an overview of connecting to various dust extractors at the end of these operating instructions.

For optimum dust extraction, where possible use the anti-splinter guard (21).

The dust extractor must be suitable for the material being worked.

When extracting dry dust that is especially detrimental to health or carcinogenic, use a special dust extractor.

Operation

Operating modes

Remove the battery from the power tool before carrying out work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance, changing tool, etc.). The battery should also be removed for transport and storage. There is risk of injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.

Pendulum action settings

The pendulum action can be adjusted using four different settings, allowing the cutting speed, cutting capacity and the cut itself to be optimally adapted to the material that you want to cut.

You can also adjust the pendulum action during operation using the adjusting lever (8).

The optimum pendulum level for each application can be determined by a practical test. Note the following recommendations:

- Select a lower pendulum level or switch off the pendulum action completely if you wish to produce a finer or cleaner cutting edge.

- Switch off the pendulum action when machining thin materials (e.g. sheets).

- Work on hard materials (e.g. steel) with low pendulum action.

- You can work on soft materials and saw wood in the direction of the grain using maximum pendulum action.

Setting the mitre/bevel angle (see figure I) (GST 18 V-LI B)

The base plate (7) can be swivelled to the right or left to make mitre cuts up to 45°.

The extraction outlet (22) and anti-splinter guard (21) cannot be used while mitre/bevel cuts are being made.

• Remove the extraction outlet (22) and the anti-splinter guard (21).
• Loosen the screw (24) with the hex key (5) and slide the base plate (7) all the way towards the battery (3).
• The base plate has lock-in points at 0° and 45° on the left and right so that precise mitre/bevel angles can be set. Swivel the base plate (7) to the desired position according to the scale (25). Other mitre/bevel angles can be adjusted using a protractor.
• Then push the base plate (7) towards the saw blade (10) as far as it will go.
• Retighten the screw (24).

Moving the base plate (see figure I) (GST 18 V-LI B)

You can move the base plate (7) back for sawing close to edges.

Loosen the screw of the base plate (24) with the hex key (5) and slide the base plate (7) all the way towards the battery (3).

Retighten the screw (24).

Sawing with an offset base plate (7) is only possible with a mitre angle of 0° . In all other cases the anti-splinter guard (21) may not be used.

Starting Operation

Inserting the battery

Note: The use of batteries unsuitable for your power tool can lead to malfunctions or damage to the power tool.

Slide the charged battery (3) from below into the foot of the power tool. Press the battery fully into the base until the battery is securely locked.

Switching on the LED worklight (GST 18 V-LI S)

To switch the worklight (12) on or off, press the worklight button (15).

▶ Do not look directly into the worklight; it can blind you.

Switching On and Off (GST 18 V-LI S)

▶ Make sure that you are able to press the On/Off switch without releasing the handle.

To switch on the power tool, slide the on/off switch (2) forwards so that "I" appears on the switch.

To switch off the power tool, slide the on/off switch (2) backwards so that "0" appears on the switch.

Switching On and Off (GST 18 V-LI B)

To switch on the power tool, press the lock-off button (1) next to the symbol 6 first, thereby deactivating it. Then press the on/off switch (2) and keep it pressed.

The worklight lights up when the on/off switch (2) is lightly or fully pressed allowing the work area to be illuminated in poor lighting conditions.

▶ Do not look directly into the worklight; it can blind you.

To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (2). Activate the lock-off button (1) by pressing the lock-off button next to the symbol.

Note: For safety reasons, the on/off switch (2) cannot be locked; it must remain pressed during the entire operation.

Preselecting the stroke rate (GST 18 V-LI S)

You can also preselect the stroke rate and change it during operation using the stroke rate preselection thumbwheel (16).

The required stroke rate is dependent on the material and the work conditions and can be determined using practical tests.

It is recommended that you reduce the stroke rate when placing the saw blade on the workpiece and when sawing plastic and aluminium.

During prolonged periods of use at a low stroke rate, the power tool may heat up significantly. Remove the saw blade and let the power tool run at the maximum stroke rate for around three minutes to cool down.

Controlling the stroke rate (GST 18 V-LI B)

You can variably adjust the stroke rate of the power tool when it is on by pressing in the on/off switch (2) to varying extents.

Applying light pressure to the on/off switch (2) results in a low stroke rate. Applying increasing pressure to the switch increases the stroke rate.

The required stroke rate is dependent on the material and the work conditions and can be determined using practical tests.

It is recommended that you reduce the stroke rate when placing the saw blade on the workpiece and when sawing plastic and aluminium.

During prolonged periods of use at a low stroke rate, the power tool may heat up significantly. Remove the saw blade and let the power tool run at the maximum stroke rate for around three minutes to cool down.

Temperature-dependent overload protection

In normal conditions of use, the power tool cannot be overloaded. If the power tool is overloaded or not kept within the permitted battery temperature range, the speed is reduced or the power tool switches off. At reduced speed, the power tool will run again at full speed once the permitted battery temperature is reached or the load is reduced. If it automatically shuts down, switch the power tool off, allow the battery to cool down, then switch the power tool back on.

Working Advice

▶ Remove the battery from the power tool before carrying out work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance, changing tool, etc.). The battery should also be re-

moved for transport and storage. There is risk of injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.

▶ Switch the power tool off immediately if the saw blade becomes blocked.
▶ Always use a sturdy support when working on small or thin workpieces.

Before sawing into wood, chipboard, building materials, etc., check for and remove any foreign objects such as nails, screws, etc.

Plunge cutting (see figure J)

▶ Plunge cuts may only be applied to soft materials, such as wood, gypsum board, etc.

For plunge cutting, use only short saw blades. Plunge cutting is possible only with a mitre angle of 0° .

Place the power tool so that the front edge of the base plate (7) rests on the workpiece, without the saw blade (10) touching the workpiece, and switch it on. On power tools with stroke rate control, select the maximum stroke rate. Press the power tool firmly against the workpiece and allow the saw blade to plunge slowly into the workpiece.

As soon as the base plate (7) rests fully on the workpiece, continue sawing along the required cutting line.

Coolant/lubricant

As the material heats up along the cutting line when cutting metal, you should apply coolant or lubricant.

Recommendations for Optimal Handling of the Battery

Protect the battery against moisture and water.

Only store the battery within a temperature range of -20 to 50 °C. Do not leave the battery in your car in the summer, for example.

Occasionally clean the ventilation slots on the battery using a soft brush that is clean and dry.

A significantly reduced operating time after charging indicates that the battery has deteriorated and must be replaced.

Follow the instructions on correct disposal.

Maintenance and Service

▶ To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.

Clean the saw blade receptacle regularly. For this, remove the saw blade from the power tool and lightly tap out the power tool on a level surface.

If the power tool becomes very dirty, this can lead to serious faults. For this reason, do not cut materials which generate large quantities of dust from below or overhead.

If the dust outlet becomes blocked, switch off the power tool, disconnect the dust extraction system and remove the dust and chips.

Apply a drop of oil to the guide roller (9) from time to time.

Check the guide roller (9) regularly. If worn, it must be replaced through an authorised Bosch after-sales service centre.

Transport

The contained lithium-ion batteries are subject to the Dangerous Goods Legislation requirements. The batteries are suitable for road-transport by the user without further restrictions.

When shipping by third parties (e.g.: by air transport or forwarding agency), special requirements on packaging and labelling must be observed. For preparation of the item being shipped, consulting an expert for hazardous material is required.

Dispatch battery packs only when the housing is undamaged. Tape or mask off open contacts and pack up the battery in such a manner that it cannot move around in the packaging. Please also observe the possibility of more detailed national regulations.

Disposal

The machine, rechargeable batteries, accessories and packaging should be sorted for environmental-friendly recycling.

Do not dispose of power tools and batteries/rechargeable batteries into household waste!

Only for EU countries:

According to the Directive 2012/19/EU, power tools that are no longer usable, and according to the Directive 2006/66/EC, defective or used battery packs/batteries, must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally correct manner.
