How do I refill the VersaFlame 2200 with butane?

Ensure the tool is off and cool. Purge any remaining gas by pressing the valve. Then, use a butane canister with the appropriate adapter, press firmly into the fill valve for about 5-10 seconds. Let it sit for a minute before use.

What type of butane should I use?

Use high-purity butane (preferably triple-refined) for best performance. Avoid low-quality gas with impurities that can clog the nozzle.

How do I adjust the flame size?

WORK AREA

a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.

PERSONAL SAFETY

a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the tool. Do not use the tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating tools may result in serious personal injury.

g. Do not use the appliance when it is leaking (gas smell), shows any sign of damage or is malfunctioning.
h. If the appliance is leaking (gas smell) immediately take it outside and check the leak-tightness without a flame. Always use soapsuds. (Re)filling the gas tank must be done in a well-ventilated place far away from any possible sources of ignition, open flames, pilot lights, electrical cookware and away from other persons. Be sure to observe the safety instructions and warning notices on the refill container. Do not make any modifications to the tool.

GENERAL

The Dremel VersaFlame is a high quality tool that can be used for hard or soft soldering. It can also be used to heat up and/or ignite flammable and non-flammable materials. The Dremel VersaFlame emits an adjustable flame with a temperature of up to 1200°C. It has an integrated ignition mechanism.

(RE)FILLING THE GAS TANK

The Dremel VersaFlame may only be filled and operated with liquid butane gas. Make sure the gas you are using is refined butane gas that can also be used for lighters.

1. Hold the tool and the gas refill container as shown in Figure 2.
2. Fill the gas tank with liquid butane gas observing the instructions on the refill container. The gas tank is full when liquid butane gas escapes through the filling valve. In that case, there is no more air present in the gas tank.

WARNING

DO NOT OVERFILL THE GAS TANK!

GETTING STARTED

USE

Familiarize yourself with the components of the Dremel VersaFlame (see Figure 1).

The Dremel VersaFlame is equipped with a child-safety mechanism. This mechanism requires a two-step operation to protect against accidental ignition.

To switch on and operate the Dremel VersaFlame, follow the steps in Figure 3.

NOTE: The air control lever must be in the open position (Figure 3a). The lock button must be in the forward position for the tool to be able to ignite (Figure 3b).

1. Hold the Dremel VersaFlame in one hand.
2. With your other hand move the child-safety lock to the left (Figure 3c).
3. Slowly press the ignition button and hold it down (Figure 3d).
4. When using the catalyst: Close the air control lever for 2 seconds and re-open it to prevent the catalyst from being overheated (Figure 3e).

NOTE: After ignition, make sure that the tool is switched on by checking that the catalyst starts to glow.

1. To switch off the Dremel VersaFlame, release the ignition button. This will immediately shut off the flow of butane gas.

If the Dremel VersaFlame is to be used continuously for a prolonged period of time, holding down the ignition button can become uncomfortable. To operate the Dremel VersaFlame continuously, follow the steps in Figure 4.

1. Switch on the Dremel VersaFlame as described above.

2. Slide the lock button backward (Figure 4a) and release the ignition button (Figure 4b).

3. To switch off the Dremel VersaFlame, slide the lock button forward. This will immediately stop the flow of butane gas.

USING WITH AN OPEN FLAME

The Dremel VersaFlame can only be used with an open flame if the catalyst is removed.

FLAME LENGTH AND TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT

Move the flame control lever forward to increase the flame length and temperature, or backward to decrease the flame length and temperature.

When using an open flame, the Dremel VersaFlame is at the desired temperature immediately after ignition.

Please allow ± 25 seconds of heat-up time for the soldering tip.

USING THE ACCESSORIES

The Dremel VersaFlame is delivered with a catalyst, a soldering tip, a flame extension piece and a deflector.

CATALYST (Figure 1 part 2)

The catalyst generates hot air of 680^irc C: Used for melting plastics and other heat-sensitive materials.

1. Slide the narrow part of the catalyst into the burner. Make sure the slot of the catalyst is aligned with the white indicator mark. See Figure 5.

2. To remove the catalyst, slide it out of the burner.

SOLDERING TIP (Figure 1 part 1)

The soldering tip (to be used on the catalyst): used for regular soldering activities, using soldering tin.

1. Screw the soldering tip in clockwise direction onto the catalyst. Secure the tip using the 7 mm wrench (provided). See Figure 6.

2. To remove the soldering tip, use the 7 mm wrench to unscrew the tip in counter-clockwise direction.

FLAME EXTENSION PIECE (Figure 1 part 12)

The flame extension piece generates hot air of approx. 1000°C: Used for heating larger surfaces.

1. Loosen the screw to fit the front tip of VersaFlame (screwdriver not included). See Figure 7.

DEFLECTOR (Figure 1 part 13)

To be used with the flame extension piece. See Figure 7.

MAINTENANCE

CLEANING THE TOOL

WARNING

ALWAYS SWITCH OFF THE TOOL AND ALLOW IT TO FULLY COOL DOWN

BEFORE CLEANING.

1. Clean the exterior of the tool with a clean cloth. If necessary, use a damp cloth with a small amount of neutral detergent.

2. After soldering or in case of excess solder on the soldering tip, wipe the tip on a soldering sponge soaked in some water when it is still hot.

3. Never clean the soldering tip with sandpaper as this reduces its lifetime.

This DREMEL product is guaranteed in accordance with statutory/country-specific regulations; damage due to normal wear and tear, overload or improper handling will not be covered by the guarantee.
