Frequently Asked Questions - KBH 25 Fein

How to use the cooling system on the Fein KBH 25?
The integrated cooling system cools the drill bit and lubricates the cut. Fill the tank with a suitable cutting fluid (soluble oil). Open the adjustment valve on the side of the drill. The flow rate should be adjusted according to the material and drilling speed.
What is the magnetic force of the base and how to check it?
The magnetic force is 12,000 N, sufficient to hold the drill on a steel plate at least 10 mm thick. Always check adhesion before drilling: place the base on a clean, flat surface, activate the electromagnet and try to push the machine sideways. Never drill if the base can move.
What type of drill bit to use with the KBH 25?
Use Morse taper No. 2 (MT2) shank drill bits for optimal retention. Hammer drill bits are not suitable. For steel, prefer HSS twist drills or carbide drills for hard materials.
How to replace the motor carbon brushes?
The carbon brushes are accessible after unscrewing the caps located on either side of the motor. Use original Fein carbon brushes (ref. 6.37.10). Insert the new brushes respecting the curvature direction, then screw the caps back on. A running-in period of a few minutes is necessary.
The drill no longer starts, what to do?
First check the power supply and fuse. If the indicator light is on, the problem may be with the magnetic release sensor: make sure the base is properly adhering to the workpiece. If nothing works, contact Fein customer service.
What is the maximum drilling depth?
With the standard bit, the depth is limited to 25 mm in one pass. For deeper holes, use suitable bits and proceed in multiple passes with abundant cooling.
Can the KBH 25 be used on a vertical surface or ceiling?
Yes, the magnetic force of 12,000 N allows use on vertical surfaces or ceilings, provided the part is made of steel of sufficient thickness (minimum 10 mm) and the surface is clean. Use the provided safety strap to restrain the machine in case of fall.
How to lubricate the column guides?
Apply a thin layer of universal lubricating grease to the column slides every 50 operating hours. Avoid excess grease which could attract metal dust.
The drill vibrates abnormally, what is the possible cause?
Vibrations can come from a poorly sharpened bit, a loose tool holder, or a worn bearing. Check the bit tightening, the condition of the cutting edges, and if necessary, look for an imbalance of the workpiece.
What is the warranty on the Fein KBH 25?
Fein offers a 3-year warranty on manufacturing defects, subject to maintenance in accordance with the instructions. Register your product on the Fein website to activate the warranty. Wear parts (carbon brushes, bearings) are not covered.

For your safety.

WARNING

Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the

warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

Fein KBH 25 - WARNING - 1

Do not use this power tool before you have thoroughly read and completely understood this Instruction Manual and the enclosed "General

Safety Instructions" (document number 3 41 30 054 06 1). The documents mentioned should be kept for later use and enclosed with the power tool, should it be passed on or sold.

Please also observe the relevant national industrial safety regulations.

Intended use of the power tool:

hand-held core drill for drilling in metal and for tapping in weather-protected environments without water supply using the application tools and accessories recommended by FEIN.

Do not use the power tool in a drill stand.

This power tool is also suitable for use with AC generators with sufficient power output that correspond to the Standard ISO 8528, design type G2. This Standard is particularly not complied with when the so-called distortion factor exceeds 10% .When in doubt, please refer to the generator instruction/specification guide.

Special safety instructions.

Use auxiliary handle(s), if supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.

Hold power tool by the insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting accessory contacting a "live" wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give the operator an electric shock.

Beware of any concealed electric cables, gas or water conduits; check the working area with a metal detector, for example, before commencing work.

Avoid contact with the core, which is automatically thrust out by the pilot bit after the working procedure. Contact with the hot or falling down core can lead to injury.

Secure the workpiece firmly. A work piece that is gripped tightly in a clamping device or vice, is more secure than if held by hand.

Hold the power tool firmly. High reaction torque can briefly occur.

Do not direct the power tool against yourself, other persons or animals. Danger of injury from sharp or hot application tools.

Do not rivet or screw any name-plates or signs onto the power tool. If the insulation is damaged, protection against an electric shock will be ineffective. Adhesive labels are recommended.

Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the power tool manufacturer. Safe operation is not ensured merely because an accessory fits your power tool.

Clean the ventilation openings on the power tool at regular intervals using non-metal tools. The blower of the motor draws dust into the housing. An excessive accumulation of metallic dust can cause an electrical hazard. Before putting into operation, check the mains connection and the mains plug for damage.

Recommendation: The tool should always be supplied with power via a residual current device (RCD) with a rated current of 30 mA or less.

Hand/arm vibrations

The vibration emission level given in this information sheet has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745 and may be used to compare one tool with another. It may be used for a preliminary assessment of exposure.

The declared vibration emission level represents the main applications of the tool. However if the tool is used for different applications, with different accessories or poorly maintained, the vibration emission may differ. This may significantly increase the exposure level over the total working period.

An estimation of the level of exposure to vibration should also take into account the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job. This may significantly reduce the exposure level over the total working period.

Identify additional safety measures to protect the operator from the effects of vibration such as: maintain the tool and the accessories, keep the hands warm, organisation of work patterns.

Handling hazardous dusts

For work procedures with this power tool where material is removed, dusts develop that can be hazardous to one's health.

Contact with or inhaling some dust types, e. g. asbestos and asbestos-containing materials, lead-containing coatings, metal, some wood types, minerals, silicate particles from materials containing stone, paint solvents, wood preservatives, antifouling paints for vessels, can trigger allergic reactions to the operator or bystanders and/or lead to respiratory infections, cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. The risk from inhaling dusts depends on the exposition. Use dust extraction matched appropriately for the developing dust, as well as personal protective equipment and provide for good ventilation of the workplace. Leave the processing of asbestos-containing materials to specialists.

Wood and light-metal dust, hot mixtures of sanding dust and chemical materials can self-ignite under unfavourable conditions or cause an explosion. Avoid sparking in the direction of the dust collector as well as overheating of the power tool and the materials being sanded, empty the dust collector/container in time, observe the material manufacturer's working instructions, as well as the relevant regulations in your country for the materials being worked.

Operating instructions.

Adjust the Rotation selector switch only when the machine is at a complete stop.

When the power supply is disconnected while the motor is running or when the switched-on power tool is plugged in, the motor will not restart.

When the application tool continuously blocks or is subject to overload, the motor stops automatically. Restart the motor again.

Insert the pilot bit with a turning motion into the tool holder until it springs back.

Carry out core-drilling processes without interruption, if possible. To complete a started and interrupted drilling run, repeat the center-drilling process.

Replace dull pilot bits; they may not be reground.

Remove the chippings and the drilled core after each drilling process.

CAUTION

Chippings are sharp and hot!

When changing a drill bit, pay attention not to damage the cutting edges.

When core drilling layered material, remove the core and the chippings after drilling each layer.

Repair and customer service.

Fein KBH 25 - Repair and customer service. - 1

Fein KBH 25 - Repair and customer service. - 2

When working metal under extreme operating conditions, it is possible for conductive dust to settle in the interior of the power tool.

The total insulation of the power tool can be impaired. Blow out the interior of the power tool via the ventilation slots frequently with dry and oil-free compressed air, and connect a residual current device (RCD) on the line side.

If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced by a specially prepared cord available through the FEIN customer service centre.

If required, you can change the following parts yourself: Auxiliary handle, application tools

Warranty and liability.

The warranty for the product is valid in accordance with the legal regulations in the country where it is marketed. In addition, FEIN also provides a guarantee in accordance with the FEIN manufacturer's warranty declaration.

The delivery scope of your power tool may include only a part of the accessories described or shown in this instruction manual.
