How to use the Severin DO 3854 can opener?

Place the can opener on the can lid, lower the lever to engage the blade, then turn on the appliance. It rotates automatically until fully open.

What to do if the can opener stops working?

How to clean the can opener?

Unplug the appliance. Clean the blade with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent. Wipe immediately. Do not immerse in water.

Can I open all types of cans?

The appliance is suitable for standard cans (steel or aluminum). For easy-open cans, follow the manufacturer's instructions.

How to replace the blade?

Unscrew the blade fixing screw, remove the old blade, insert the new one (ref. DO 3854-001) and screw back firmly.

The can opener makes abnormal noise, what to do?

Stop the appliance immediately. Check if a foreign object is blocking the blade. If the noise persists, contact customer service.

How long is the warranty?

The legal warranty is 2 years. Keep the proof of purchase. For more details, see the manual.

The can opener stops before opening is complete, why?

This may be due to a low battery (if cordless model) or a dull blade. Check the blade and replace if necessary.

Can I use the can opener with an extension cord?

Yes, use an extension cord in good condition with adequate power. Do not exceed the recommended length (max 5 m).

Before using the appliance, please read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.

Connection to the mains supply

Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label of the appliance.

This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Important safety instructions

• In order to avoid hazards, and to comply with safety requirements, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see appendix).

• Before cleaning the appliance,

ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.

• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with liquids or immerse it.

- For detailed information on cleaning the appliance, please refer to the section Cleaning and care.

- Always remove the plug from the wall socket

• before assembling or disassembling the appliance,
• when there is no supervision,
• after each cycle of use,
• in case of any malfunction,
• before cleaning the appliance.

- Caution: Any misuse can cause severe personal injury.

- Caution: The blade is extremely sharp. To prevent injuries, take special care when handling these parts.

- This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as the

- staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments,

• agricultural working environments,
• by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation,
• in bed-and breakfast type environments.

- This appliance may be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.

• Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.

- The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.

• Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – these are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

• Before the appliance is used, the main

body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any faults or defects.

Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.

- Do not allow the housing or the power cord to touch hot surfaces (e.g. cooker hotplates) or come into contact with any other heat sources.

- When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself. Do not let the power cord hang free.

- Caution: The operating lever must only be used to puncture the can and begin cutting. Release the lever afterwards.

- No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.

Before using for the first time

Clean the can opener as described in the section Cleaning and care.

Short-term operation

The can opener has been designed for short-term operation only, i.e. it should not be operated continuously for more than 1 minute. Switch off the appliance afterwards and allow the motor to cool down before switching on again.

Operation

• Connect the appliance to the mains.

• Hold the can opener in the right hand and lift up the magnet holder assembly.

• Use your thumb to lift up the operating lever.

• Place the can to be opened with your left hand next to the cutting mechanism in such a way that the underside of the rim sits on the serrated transport wheel.
• Push down the lever until the cutting blade touches the surface of the can. Bring the magnet into position by lowering it down onto the lid of the can.
• The appliance is switched on by increasing pressure on the operating lever which in turn will activate the pulse switch located underneath the lever. The cutting blade is automatically drawn into the lid and will begin to cut.
• Release the operating lever as soon as the can starts turning.
• Once the lid is cut completely free, the opener will automatically switch off.
• Caution: Do not re-engage the operating lever or keep it pressed once the can is open.
• The opening process can be interrupted at any time by simply pulling the operating lever up.
  • After opening, hold the can with your left hand and lift the operating lever with your right thumb.
• The lid, once free, is securely held by the magnet and may be removed by hand.
• Caution: Take extreme care when removing the lid from the magnet, as the thin metal edges can easily cause serious injury.
• When the can opener is switched on, a clicking noise may be heard. This sound is normal and does not in any way impede the appliance's function.
• When opening larger cans of around 1,000 g or more, the can must be guided

by hand during the opening process.

- When opening cans with a damaged rim, it may be necessary to re-position the can opener several times.

- Cans which are normally opened with a key, or cans with a soldered-in lid, may be opened at the bottom if a suitable rim exists.

Hanging loop

The appliance is equipped with a hanging loop for space-saving storage.

Cleaning and care

• To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the can opener with water and do not immerse it in water.
• The housing may be wiped with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth.
• Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
• To facilitate cleaning, the operating lever together with the magnet holder and blade can be removed from the housing by lifting up the operating lever all the way and then pulling it out sideways. The operating lever assembly can be cleaned with a damp cloth. Follow the steps in reverse order to re-fi t the assembly after cleaning.

Disposal

Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.

Guarantee

This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that it has not been modified, repaired or interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse.

This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return. If within the guarantee period, please also provide the guarantee card and proof of purchase.
