Frequently Asked Questions - 721-485 Meec Tools

What type of oil does the log splitter use?
The hydraulic system requires hydraulic oil with the correct viscosity (not specified in manual). Use only recommended hydraulic oil; do not mix types. Refer to the technical data section for the oil volume (2.2 L).
How do I change the hydraulic oil?
Disconnect the power, unscrew the oil drain plug, and let the oil flow into a suitable container (approx. 3 L). Tip the splitter vertically on the motor end to drain completely. Refill with fresh hydraulic oil to the correct level. Dispose of used oil according to local regulations.
What is the maximum log size I can split?
The splitter can handle logs up to 370 mm in length and 50–250 mm in diameter. Never exceed these limits to avoid damage or personal injury.
How do I start and operate the log splitter?
Place the splitter on a stable bench, lock the wheels, connect to a grounded outlet, and ensure the area is clear. Place a log on the bed, stand to the side, press and hold the control lever until the log splits, then release the lever and power switch to return the piston.
What should I do if a log gets stuck on the wedge?
Release the control handles immediately, turn off the splitter, and unplug it. Tap the log loose with a hammer. Never use your hands to free a stuck log.
Can I use an extension cord?
Yes, but the extension cord must be no longer than 7.5 m and have a conductor cross-section of at least 1.5 mm² (or 2.5 mm² for longer runs) to avoid voltage drop and fire risk. Use an outdoor-rated cord with proper grounding.
How often should I replace the hydraulic oil?
Replace the hydraulic oil after approximately 150 hours of operation to maintain performance and prevent pump damage.
What safety gear do I need?
Wear safety glasses, ear protection, safety gloves (non-conductive), non-slip shoes, and a hair net if you have long hair. Avoid loose clothing or jewelry that could catch in moving parts.
Can I split logs across the grain?
No, always split logs parallel to the direction of the grain. Splitting across the grain can cause the wood to burst or eject violently, leading to injury.
How do I assemble the log splitter out of the box?
Place the control lever end on a stable surface, insert the wheel axle into the holes, attach wheels with lock washers and nuts, mount the legs using supplied hardware, attach the control lever guard with screws, and screw on the handle. Ensure all connections are tight.
