Frequently Asked Questions - BD 2000S BLACK & DECKER

What type of oil should I use in the BD 2000S generator?
Use SAE 15W40 engine oil for temperatures above 0°C, and SAE 5W30 for temperatures below 0°C. The oil capacity is approximately 0.4 L. Always check the oil level with the dipstick without screwing it in.
How do I start the generator?
1. Turn the ventilating pole to OPEN. 2. Turn the engine switch to ON. 3. Move the choke lever to position I∅I. 4. Use the start booster by compressing the air in the fuel tank (optional). 5. Pull the recoil starter firmly. Wear gloves to prevent hand injuries from kickback.
Can I connect the generator to my home's electrical system?
No, never connect the generator to the public power supply or home wiring. This can cause backfeeding, fire, electrocution, or damage to the generator and appliances. Use extension cords directly to devices.
What should I do if the engine does not start?
Check the oil level (low oil cut-out may prevent starting). Ensure the spark plug is clean and gapped to 0.6 mm. Verify there is fuel and the fuel cock is open. If the battery voltage is low, charge the battery. Refer to the troubleshooting section in the manual.
How often should I change the engine oil?
Change the oil after the first month or 20 hours of use, then every 3 months or 50 hours, then every 6 months or 100 hours, and annually or every 200 hours. Always drain used oil when the engine is warm.
How do I clean the air filter?
Remove the air filter cover bolt, take out the filter elements. Tap them on a flat surface or clean with soapy water for heavy dirt, then rinse and air dry. Do not use petrol or abrasive cleaners. Reassemble in reverse order.
What is the overload cut-out and how do I reset it?
The overload cut-out protects the generator from excessive load. It shuts down the AC sockets. To reset, reduce the load or remove faulty appliances, then restart the generator. If the cut-out fails, it must be replaced with an identical part by a service center.
Can I run the generator indoors?
No. The generator produces toxic carbon monoxide gas, which is colorless and odorless. Only operate outdoors in a well-ventilated area, at least 1 meter away from buildings and other equipment. Never use in enclosed spaces.
How do I store the generator for a long period?
For storage over 3 months: empty the fuel tank and carburetor (unscrew carburetor outlet screw or run generator until it stops). Drain engine oil to prevent deterioration. Store in a dry, protected area. Never store outdoors uncovered.
What is the start booster?
The start booster is a feature that allows you to compress air in the fuel tank before starting, making it easier to start the generator. It is especially useful in cold conditions.
