Frequently Asked Questions - NZ 260 ECG

What type of water should I use in the ECG NZ 260 iron?
Use ordinary tap water. Distilled or demineralized water reduces efficiency of the descaling system. Always fill using the included beaker, not directly from the tap.
How do I clean the iron's soleplate?
Disconnect the iron and let it cool. Use a moist or wet dish towel with a fine liquid cleaning agent. Never use wire wool or metal objects, and do not rinse or immerse the iron in water.
What does the auto-clean function do and how often should I use it?
The auto-clean function removes impurities from the steam chamber and limescale from the soleplate. Use it every 10-15 hours of ironing. Fill the tank to max, set steam and temperature to max, wait for indicator to go out, unplug, hold iron horizontally over a sink, and press the auto-clean button.
How does the auto shut-off feature work?
The iron automatically switches off if left horizontally without movement for 30 seconds or vertically for 8 minutes. A beep sounds and the backlight changes from red to green. Moving the iron turns it back on.
Can I use the iron vertically to steam hanging clothes?
Yes, hold the iron upright and press the steam burst button to remove creases from drapes, curtains, or hanging garments. Direct steam only at fabrics, not at people or animals.
Why does water drip from the soleplate when ironing at low temperatures?
The anti-drip system prevents dripping when temperature is too low. If you still see drips, ensure the temperature is set high enough for steam production (at least two dots on the dial).
What should I do if the iron produces smoke or odor during first use?
This is normal. Heat the iron to maximum without water for a few minutes, then fill the tank and steam for at least 1 minute. The smoke and smell will disappear.
How do I set the correct temperature for different fabrics?
Refer to the fabric care labels. Low temperature for synthetics, medium for silk/wool, high for cotton/linen. For unknown fabrics, start low and test on an inconspicuous area. Always iron silk, wool, and synthetics inside out to avoid shine.
Is the iron safe to use on delicate fabrics?
Yes, the anti-drip system and adjustable steam allow safe ironing of delicate fabrics. Use a low temperature setting and iron inside out. The soleplate is designed to glide smoothly without snagging.
What is the power cord length and does it swivel?
The cord is a swivel type for easy maneuverability. Exact length is not specified, but it is sufficient for typical home use. Avoid letting the cord touch hot surfaces.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Before putting into operation

Remove the protective foil from the soleplate first! The iron must be used and stored on a stable surface.

When ironing for the first time, heat the iron to the highest degree without using water. During this process, smoke and bad smell may come from the iron, though will vanish shortly. The water reservoir can be filled afterwards. After filling and heating the iron, leave it to produce steam for at least 1 minute while occasionally pressing the steam button. This removes any residue from production. We recommend trying the iron on some common fabric, e.g. a dish towel, prior to using it on your laundry for the first time.

Filling the water tank

Be sure the iron is unplugged from the electrical outlet before filling with water!

Tilt the iron and fi ll with water until the line marked max. is reached.

Use water from the water tap only. Distilled or demineralized water reduces the efficiency of the descaling system by changing physical and chemical properties. The cup included with the product must be used to fill the iron. The iron must not be filled with water directly from the water tap!

Temperature settings

Before ironing, sort the garments according to the international textile care and labeling codes found on tags. If these are missing, separate the garments based on the type of fabric.

Laundry tag Type of fabric Temperature control
ECG NZ 260 - Temperature settings - 1Chemical fi bres e.g. polyester, viscose• low temperature
ECG NZ 260 - Temperature settings - 2Silk, wool•• medium temperature
ECG NZ 260 - Temperature settings - 3Cotton, fl ax••• high temperature
ECG NZ 260 - Temperature settings - 4Fabrics which can not be ironed

We recommend ironing fabrics with uncommon surfaces (e.g. filters, embroidery, printings etc.) at the lowest temperature.

As far as mixes are concerned (e.g. 40% cotton, 60% synthetic material), set the temperature control according to the fabric requiring the lower temperature.

If you are not sure of the fabric composition, determine the suitable temperature by performing a test on the least noticeable part of clothing. Begin with the lowest temperature and slowly increase until the ideal temperature is achieved.

Never iron spots with traces of perspiration etc.: heat from the iron fixates fabric stains which cannot be removed.

Removing grease stains is more effect using a dry iron at medium temperature: excessive heat burns the grease and could result in the formation of yellow stains.

Iron silk, wool and synthetic fabrics inside out to prevent shiny stains from appearing.

Iron velvet fabrics in one direction (in the direction of fibres) and do not press on the iron to prevent shiny stains from appearing.

The more laundry put into the washing machine, the more wrinkled the laundry will be. Laundry will also wrinkle more during high speed centrifugation.

Many fabrics are easier to iron if not completely dry. For example, silk should always be ironed moist.

Use the temperature control to set the ironing temperature according to the type of fabric. A lit indicator signals the heat-up process of the soleplate. The indicator light going out signals the required temperature has been reached and the ironing process can begin.

The plate temperature indicator occasionally lights up when ironing, indicating the temperature setting is maintained. After finishing your ironing at a high temperature and reducing the temperature, do not continue using the iron until the soleplate temperature indicator lights up again.

Note: Since the cooling process takes longer than the heating process, ironing fabrics requiring lower temperatures first is recommended. This way you eliminate the risk of burning the fabric.

IRONING AND THE STEAM FUNCTION

Ironing without steam

For steamless ironing, set the steam control to "0" and set the temperature according to the type of fabric.

Ironing with steam

Steam ironing requires setting the temperature to position .. The amount of steam can be set using the steam control. Setting the temperature to ... is recommended for using the maximum amount of steam.

Ironing with the steam burst

Press steam shot for ironing hard to remove creases slowly (dense spray) or quickly (fine spray)

For fine fabrics, we recommend moistening the fabric or to inserting a damp cloth between the fabric and iron before using the spray function. Prevent stains from appearing by not using the spray function on silk or synthetic material.

Vertical steam burst

Hold the iron in an upright position and hold the spray button down to iron and straighten creased drapes, curtains, clothes etc. Wait a few seconds before pressing again. The spray function is only available at high temperatures. Stop using the spray function as soon as the soleplate temperature indicator lights up. Continue ironing only after the indicator light goes out.

Attention: Never direct the steam at persons or animals.

Automatic steam emission function

Turn the steam control to the ON position to configure automatic steam output corresponding to the soleplate temperature.

Sprinkling

Press the sprinkling button to dampen hard to remove creases.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

ANTI-CALC system

A special filter made of synthetic resin inside the reservoir softens water and reduces the risk of scale. The resin filter is an integral part of the water reservoir and does not need replacing.

ANTI-DRIP system

This function prevents water escaping from the soleplate when the temperature is too low. This system enables you to perfectly iron even the fi nest of fabrics.

The iron can cool down to a temperature at which the steam process is not carried out, however, drops of boiling water can cause stains. The anti-drip system is automatically activated in cases like this, preventing the vaporization process so you can iron even the finest of fabrics without the risk of staining or damaging them.

AUTO-SHUT OFF system

This safety function allows the appliance to automatically switch off in case it sits horizontally on the ironing surface without movement for 30 seconds or 8 minutes if idle in the vertical position. In these situations, the appliance will switch off automatically, an interrupted noise will sound and the backlight will change from red to green. As soon as you move the iron, it will automatically switch back on and you may continue using the appliance.

Note: This only purpose of this function is to ensure safety. The standard method of switching off the appliance is to set the temperature control to minimum and unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet.

Auto-clean

The auto-clean function removes impurities from the steam chamber and limestone from the soleplate. We recommend using this function every 10-15 hours of ironing.

  1. Fill the reservoir with water until the line marked max. is reached and set the steam control to maximum. Set the temperature control to maximum temperature and wait until the indicator light goes out.
  2. Pull out the plug from the electrical outlet and tilt the iron horizontally over a sink.
  3. Hold the iron horizontally above the sink and hold the steam control in the "autoclean" position until the boiling water is released and all impurities are drained.
  4. Use a moist dish towel to clean the soleplate after the iron has cooled.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Disconnect the appliance from the electrical output prior to performing any maintenance. Cleaning shall always be performed on a cooled appliance!

Remove any sediments, starch residue or softener using a moist (or wet) dish towel or a fine liquid cleaning agent and dry with soft dry fabric. Using wire wool or metal objects can scratch the soleplate. Never clean the iron under running water, do not rinse or immerse the iron into water!

Always make sure the steam iron is completely cooled, clean and dry before putting it away. Store the iron in an upright position.
