HABA Mission Silbenrätsel - Operation Codebreaker - 2

No mystery remains unsolved when the four amateur detectives, Lisa, Tim, Claire and Flynn are on the case. They love to discuss their observations in their secret headquarters in the old castle ruins. One day they were amazed to discover that there was a brand new safe in the old building! Who hid it there? And what do the four symbols on the door mean? Their razor-sharp intellects tell them that these are clues for the safe combination. Each clue corresponds to the woods, city, beach and museum. The four friends decide to search for these symbols to solve the mystery of and to discover the code to open the safe.

Help Lisa, Tim, Claire and Flynn crack the clues. The player who cleverly and correctly breaks down the different parts of the city into syllables will discover the combination numbers for the safe. Who will be the first code breaker to solve the mystery?

Contents

1game board, 4 playing pieces, 20 woods picture cards, 20 city picture cards, 20 beach picture cards, 20 museum picture cards, 10 number chips, 4 safe chips, 1 syllable die, 1 set of game instructions

Preparation

Place the game board in the middle of the table. Sort the 80 picture cards according to the symbols on the back of the cards. Shuffle each of the four stacks thoroughly and place them face down beside the board.

Place all of the number chips face down and mix them up. Then place a number chip face down on each of the four clues on the game board. Place the rest of the number chips back into the box facedown.

Keeping them face down, shuffle the safe chips and place the stack next to the board.

Each player selects a playing piece and places it on the secret headquarters in the center of the board. Extra playing pieces are placed back into the box.

Get the syllable de ready.

How to play

Play in a clockwise direction. The player with the most syllables in their first name starts. Each turn consists of three sequential actions:

  1. Draw a picture car d

  2. Sound out the syllables

  3. Move laying piece

  4. Draw a picture card

For the first turn since you are in the secret headquarters in the middle of the board, you can take a picture card from whatever stack you like. For subsequent turns, draw a picture card from the stack in the color of the city area in which your playing piece is located. Place the card face up in front of you and think of a descriptive word for the picture.

  1. Sound out the syllables

Once you have found a suitable word, say the word out loud and sound out the syllables so everyone can hear them. All of the other players have to confirm whether your word fits the number of syllables.

- If you sounded out the word correctly, i.e. the sounded out syllables match the number f syllables in your word, then you may move your playing piece (see "Move playing piece").

- If the number of sounded out syllables does not match the number of syllables of your word, then the other players have to correct you. Sound out the word again with the right number of syllables and then move your playing piece (see "Move vinyl piece").

- If you can't think of a word with the right number of syllables, or if you word has nothing to do with the picture on the card, then you cannot move your playing piece

light / Tool / Sus-pen-ders / O-ver-alls / Pants / Blue / Yel-low / Win

Hint: All words that can describe what you see on the cards

NOT ALLOWED

Green / Bus / Air-plane / Bread / Cheese-cake / Can-dy / Egg / Red car / Laugh-ing man...

Hint: Only one word is allowed. Words which do not have anything to do with the picture on the card are not allowed.

3. Move laying piece

You should move your playing piece the same number of spaces as the number of syllables in your word. You can move in whichever direction you like and you can also turn, however you cannot go forwards and backwards in the same turn.

Then place the picture card face up next to the matching stack (unless you uncover one of the clues; see "Clues").

Now it's the next player's turn to draw a picture card.

If one of the four stacks is depleted, then shuffle the discarded picture cards next to the empty stack and use the cards to create a new stack.

Dues

Whenever you uncover one of the clues, you have to solve a word puzzle. This is how you will discover the safe combination.

Solving a word puzzle consists of three sequential actions:

  1. Throw the die
  2. Sound out the syllables
  3. Look at the number chi p

1. Throw the die

Throw the syllable die. Now you have to think of a word that matches your picture card, and has the same number of syllables as shown on the syllable die. So if you threw a "4+", then you have to think of a long, matching word with at least four syllables.

HABA Mission Silbenrätsel - Throw the die - 1

2. Sound out the syllables

Say the word out loud and sound out the syllables. The other players have to confirm whether your word fits the number of syllables thrown on the die. If the number of syllables is wrong, or if you cannot think of an appropriate word with the required number of syllables, then your turn is over. Once it's your turn again, roll the die and try your luck with a new picture card.

3. Look at the number chi p

Only when you have sounded out the correct number of syllables, can you turn over the number chip as a reward. Remember the color of the area and the number well, as it is part of the safe combination. Then put the number chip face down again in its place.

At the end of your turn, place your picture card face up next to the corresponding stack.

Open the safe

Once a player thinks they know the right combination of the four numbers in the safe combination and their playing piece has exactly reached the headquarters, then they may try to crack the safe.

Reveal the first safe chip. The colored symbol on it shows the area of the city for which you need to say the correct number. Say the number that you discovered in the clue of the same color out loud so that all the players may hear it.

Then privately check whether the number you said out loud matches the number chip for this area of the city:

  • If you remembered it correctly, then turn the numbers chip face up and place it on the clue. Then reveal the next safe chip and continue as above.
  • If you make a mistake and say an incorrect number, then place the number chip face down on the clue without letting the other players see the number. Turn all of the face up number chip face down a ____ gain. You have to also turn revealed safe chips face down again, mix them up with the others and make a new face down stack. Put your playing piece on the clue whose number you called out incorrectly. Then the next player takes their turn.

End of the game

The game ends when one player has correctly stated the full combination and all safe and number chips are face up. This player is the master detective and wins the tricky Operation Codebreaker!
