Frequently Asked Questions - 3 x 4 = Klatsch HABA

How do you play a round of 3 x 4 = Klatsch ?
Choose a flower card with a number (1 to 10) and place it in the middle. Arrange the 10 fly cards corresponding to that table around it. Roll the red die. All players multiply the number on the die by the number on the flower and must swat with their fly swatter the fly showing the correct result. The first to swat correctly wins a wooden fly. The goal is to collect 8 wooden flies.
How many players can participate?
The game is designed for 2 to 6 players.
What is the minimum recommended age?
The game is recommended for ages 8 and up due to small parts and the need to know multiplication tables.
How long does a game last?
A game typically lasts between 10 and 20 minutes.
What does the game box contain?
The box contains: 6 fly swatters, 42 fly cards, 5 flower cards, 45 wooden flies, 2 ten-sided dice and a rulebook.
How to check if the correct fly was swatted?
After all players have swatted a fly, turn over the swatted flies. Look for the one whose multiplication operation on the back matches the flower number and the die number. The player who swatted that fly first wins the wooden fly.
What happens if no one swats the correct fly?
If no player swatted the correct fly, no one receives a wooden fly for that round. Move on to the next round.
Is there a more difficult variant?
Yes, the 'Pro' variant: spread all 42 flies in the center, remove the flowers, and use both dice by multiplying their two numbers. The goal remains to collect 8 wooden flies.
How to win the game?
The first player to collect 8 wooden flies wins the game and is declared the calculation champion.
How to maintain the game?
Clean the parts with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use water or cleaning products. Store the game in its original box away from moisture.

As you all simultaneously try to swat the fly showing the right result, things get quite frantic! ... And -swat -you are the master of the times tables!

Contents

6 fly swatters

42 fly cards

5 flower cards

5 flowers

45 wooden flies

2 numerical dice with ten faces

Set of game instructions

aim: collect 8 wooden flies

choose flower and place in center of table, select the ten corresponding flies and distribute around flower, distribute fly swatters, get wooden flies and red die ready

Game Idea

Aim of the game is to be the first to collect 8 wooden flies.

Choose a flower thereby setting the sequence for the times table. Roll the die. Then multiply the number appearing on the die with the number of your flower. Whoever is able to use their fly swatter to hit the correct answer first, obtains a wooden fly as a reward.

The cards:

There are two different types of cards: Cards showing flowers or flies.

  • The five flower cards show a colored number between 1 and 10 on each side. This number refers to the sequence you play with.
  • On the front side of each fly there is a number. This number is the result of possible multiplications which are shown on the back side of the fly. The different colors of the multiplications correspond to the colors of the flowers, that is to say to their corresponding times table.

6 dot 2 = 1 2 4 dot 3 = 1 2 3 dot 4 = 1 2 2 dot 6 = 1 2

Preparation of the Game

Before starting to play choose a sequence between 1 and 10 and place the corresponding flower face up in the center of the table. Then select the ten flies showing on their back a multiplication of the same color as the color of your flower. Arrange these flies face-up at random around the flower.

Each player takes a fly swatter. Get the wooden flies and the red die ready.

The remaining material is not needed and is returned to the game box.

roll the die

all play simultaneously: multiply number on die with number of flower, search for fly showing correct result, hit with fly swatter

turn around flies, compare multi- plications shown with number of die and number of flower, first right swat = wooden fly, too late or wrong swat = no wooden fly, new round

8 wooden flies = victory

How to Play

Whoever can buzz the most like a fly may start. If you cannot agree, the youngest player starts by rolling the die.

You all play at once. Multiply the number appearing on the die with the number of the flower and search for the right fly. Whoever spots it, hits it quickly with the fly swatter. If another player thinks that the right fly has not yet been found they can go on searching.

Watch out! Each player may use his or her fly swatter only once per round and has to put it down once they have touched a fly.

As soon as all players have placed their fly swatter on a fly or think that the right fly has been found, you check the results.

Checking:

Turn round all the flies on which a fly swatter has been placed. Take a look at the multiplication tables and search for the one that shows the number and color of the flower as well as the number on the die. This one is the fly with the correct result.

  • The player who placed the fly swatter first on the right fly gets a wooden fly as a reward.
  • If no player has hit the right fly, no-one gets a wooden fly.

Afterwards all the flies are turned round again and the players take back their fly swatter. It's the turn of the next player in a clockwise direction to roll the die. A new round starts.

End of the Game

The game ends as soon as a player has collected his eighth wooden fly. He or she wins the game and is master of multiplication!

Variation for professionals

Play according to the basic game, except for the following variations: Lay out the 42 flies in the center of the table. The flowers are not needed in this variation and are kept in the box.

Play with both dice: Multiply the two numbers appearing on the dice! Who accepts this challenge and will go down as a genius of the times tables in the annals of the history of mathematic flies?
