Damage
- Please inspect the unit for damage after unpacking.
- Do not continue to operate the unit if you are in any doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way - switch off, withdraw the mains adapter and consult your dealer.
Location of Unit
- The unit must be placed on a flat stable surface and not subjected to vibrations.
- Do not place the unit on sloped or unstable surfaces as the unit may fall off or tip over.
- The mains socket must be located near the unit and should be easily accessible.
• This unit is designed for indoor use only.
Temperature
- Avoid extreme degrees of temperature, either hot or cold. Place the unit well away from heat sources such as radiators or gas / electric fires.
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and other sources of heat.
Naked Flames
- Never place any type of candle or naked flame on the top of or near the unit.
Moisture
- To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or product damage, do not expose this unit to rain, moisture, dripping or splashing. No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the unit.
- If you spill any liquid into the unit, it can cause serious damage. Switch it off at the mains immediately. Withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer.
Ventilation
• To prevent the risk of electric shock or fire hazard due to overheating, ensure that curtains and other materials do not obstruct the ventilation vents.
- A minimum distance of 5cm around the unit should be maintained to allow for sufficient ventilation.
- Do not install or place this unit in a bookcase, built-in cabinet or in another confined space. Ensure the unit is well ventilated.
Safety
- Always disconnect the unit from the mains supply before connecting / disconnecting other devices or moving the unit.
- Unplug the unit from the mains socket during a lightning storm.
- In the interests of safety and to avoid unnecessary energy consumption, never leave the unit switched on while unattended for long periods of time, e.g. overnight, while on holiday or while out of the house. Switch it off and disconnect the mains plug from the mains socket.
Mains Cable
- Make sure the unit or unit stand is not resting on top of the mains cable, as the weight of the unit may damage the mains cable and create a safety hazard.
- If the mains cable is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
Interference
- Do not place the unit on or near appliances which may cause electromagnetic interference. If you do, it may adversely affect the working of the unit, and cause a distorted sound.
Earphones
- Listening to loud sounds for prolonged periods of time may permanently damage your hearing.
- Before putting on earphones, turn the volume down then put the earphones on and slowly increase the volume until you reach a comfortable listening level.
Batteries
- Batteries used in the unit are easily swallowed by young children and this is dangerous.
- Keep loose batteries away from young children and make sure that the battery holder tray is secure in the unit. Seek medical advice if you believe a cell has been swallowed.
- Please dispose of batteries correctly by following the guidance in this manual.
- Do not expose the battery to direct sunlight or sources of excessive heat.
Supervision
• Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the unit.
- Never let anyone especially children push anything into the holes, slots or any other openings in the case - this could result in a fatal electric shock.
Class 1 Laser Product
- This unit utilises a laser. Use of controls, adjustments or performance of procedures other than those specified herein may result in hazardous radiation exposure.
• Before moving the unit, ensure the disc tray is empty.
• Always remove the disc when the unit is not in use.
- Failure to do so will risk severely damaging the disc and the unit.
- Do not stack devices; heat from other devices may affect the performance of the unit.

Service
• To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not remove screws. The unit does not contain
any user-serviceable parts. Please leave all maintenance work to qualified personnel. - Do not open any fixed covers as this may expose dangerous voltages.
Maintenance
- Ensure to unplug the unit from the power supply before cleaning.
- Do not use any type of abrasive pad or abrasive cleaning solutions as these may damage the unit's surface.
- Do not use liquids to clean the unit.

Unpacking
Remove all packaging from the unit. Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it please do so according to local regulations.

Connects the mains cable to the mains socket.
Whenever convenient, use the mains cable if you want to conserve battery life. Make sure you remove the plug from the unit and mains socket before inserting batteries.
Batteries Power

Open the battery door and insert 8 batteries, type C (not included) with the correct polarity as indicated by the "+" and "-" symbols inside the compartment.
-
Replace the battery door making sure the batteries are firmly and correctly in place. The unit is now ready to use.

- Improper or incorrect use of batteries may cause corrosion or battery leakage, which could cause personal injury or damage to property.
- Install the batteries correctly by following the polarity (+ and -) indications in the battery compartment.
- Use only the types of the batteries which are indicated in this manual.
- Do not install new batteries with used ones and do not mix different types of batteries.
- Do not dispose of the used batteries as domestic waste. Dispose of them in accordance with local regulations.
Mains Power

Always check you have completely switched off the unit, before you change or disconnect the power supply.
- Check if the power voltage, as shown on the rating label located on the bottom of the unit, corresponds to your local power supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service centre.
- Connect the mains cable to the AC INPUT\~ socket and the mains socket. The unit is now connected and ready for use.
- To switch the unit off completely, remove the mains cable from the mains socket.
- Install the unit near a mains socket where the mains plug can be easily reached.

Disconnect the mains cable from the mains socket to protect your unit during thunderstorms. Children could seriously injure themselves as the free end of the cable may still be live if only the connector is removed from the mains socket at the back of the unit.
Connecting Auxiliary Equipment

Use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo audio cable (not included) to connect auxiliary equipment to the main unit's AUX IN socket.

Using Earphones
Turn down the volume before connecting the earphones. Slowly raise the volume with the earphones on until you reach your desired volume. When earphones are connected, the speaker is automatically disabled.

Long-term exposure to loud music may cause hearing damage. It is best to avoid extreme volume when using earphones, especially for extended periods.
Switching the Unit On/Off and Selecting the Function
- To switch on and select your operation source, adjust the FUNCTION selector to CD, TAPE (OFF), Radio or AUX IN.
- To switch off the unit, adjust the FUNCTION selector to TAPE (OFF) position.

- To avoid unnecessary energy consumption, always adjust the FUNCTION selector to TAPE (OFF) after using the unit.
- If the unit is idle for 15 minutes, it will automatically switch to Power Saving mode. Press the ▶ II PLAY/PAUSE button to resume.
Adjusting the Volume and Sound
Adjust the sound with the VOLUME control.

Radio Reception
- Adjust the FUNCTION selector to Radio.
- Set the BAND selector to FM mode for MONO reception.
- Set the BAND selector to FM ST. mode for STEREO reception.
- Turn the TUNING control to tune into a station.
For Better Reception
FM - This unit has a FM aerial located at the back of the main unit. This rod should be extended and rotated for better reception.

- This CD player plays Audio Discs including CD-Recordables (CD-R) and CD-Rewritables (CD-RW).
- MP3, CD-ROM, CD-I, CDV, VCD, DVD or computer CDs cannot be played back by this this unit.

CDs encoded with copyright protection technologies by some record companies may be unplayable by this unit.
- Adjust the FUNCTION selector to CD.
- Open the CD door, and insert a CD with the printed side facing up, then press the CD door gently to close. The total number of the tracks in the disc will be shown on the display window.
- If the disc is loading, the display window will flash " --".
- If there is no disc inside, the display window will show "no".
- If the CD door is not closed, the display window will show "--".
- Press the ▶I PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback, the first track will be played. The display window will also display the number of the currently playing track.
- To pause playback, press the PLAY/PAUSE button. The "▶" and current track will flash continuously on the display window. To resume, press the ▶PLAY/PAUSE button again.
- To stop CD playback, press the ■ STOP button.

01Selecting a Different Track
- Press the I◄◄ BACK or ►► NEXT buttons once or repeatedly until the desired track number appears in the display.
Finding a Passage within a Track
- During playback, press and hold the!←← BACK or ►→I NEXT buttons. The CD will be played at high speed.
- When you recognise the passage you want, release the BACK or NEXT buttons to resume normal playback.
Programming Track Numbers
You may store up to 20 tracks in the desired sequence. Be sure to press the ■ STOP button before use to ensure no prior programme has been set.
- In stop mode, press the PROG. button to activate programming. "00" and "PROG" indicators will flash on the display.
- Press the BACK or NEXT button to select your desired track number.
- Press the PROG. button to store the desired track number.
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 to enter additional tracks into the program memory. When the memory is full, all programmed tracks will show on the display.
- To play your programmed tracks, press the ▶II PLAY/PAUSE button. The "PROG" indicator will show on the display.

To view the number of total programmed tracks, press the ◀ BACK or ▶ NEXT buttons.
Erasing a Program
In stop mode, you can erase the contents of the memory by opening the CD door or switching the FUNCTION selector to another mode. The "PROG" indicator will disappear.
Repeat Mode
You can play the current track or the whole disc repeatedly with program mode.
- During playback, press the REPEAT button once to repeat the single track. The "REPEAT 1" indicator will illuminate.
- Press the REPEAT button twice to repeat the whole disc. The "REPEAT ALL" indicator will illuminate.
- To return to normal playback, press the REPEAT button repeatedly until the "REPEAT" indicator disappears.

Cassette Playback
- Adjust the FUNCTION selector to TAPE (OFF).
- Press the ■ button to open the cassette compartment door, and insert a cassette and close the cassette compartment door.
- Press the ◀ button to start playback.
- To pause playback, press the II button. To resume, press the button again.
- To stop the tape, press the ▪button.
Fast Forwarding/Rewinding
- Press the buttons until you reach your desired passage.
- Press the ■ button to stop fast forwarding/rewinding.

- The buttons automatically release at the end of a cassette and the unit is switched off (unless the II button is pressed.)
- During fast forwarding/rewinding, the buttons will not be released at the end of a cassette. To switch off the unit, make sure the cassette buttons are all released by pressing the ▪ button.
General Information on Cassette Recording
- Recording is permissible in so far as copyright or other rights of third parties are not infringed.
- This deck is not suitable for recording on CHROME (IEC II) or METAL (IEC IV) type cassettes. For recording, use NORMAL type cassettes (IEC I) on which the tabs have not been broken.
- The best recording level is set automatically. Adjusting the VOLUME control will not affect the recording in progress.
• No recording will take place in the first 7 seconds and last 7 seconds of the cassette. - To protect a cassette from accidental erasure, place the cassette in front of you and break off the left lab.
- Recording on this side is no longer possible. To record over this side again, cover the tab with some adhesive tape.

Recording from the Radio
- Tune into the desired radio station.
- Press the ■ button on the cassette control panel to open the cassette door.
- Insert a suitable cassette into the cassette compartment and close the cassette door.
- Press the ● button and the ◀ button on the cassette control panel at the same time to start recording.
- To pause the recording, press the II button on the cassette control panel. To resume recording, press theII button again.
- To stop recording, press the ■▲button for cassette on the cassette control panel.
Recording from a CD
- Slide the FUNCTION selector to CD.
- Insert the CD you want to record from.
- Insert a suitable cassette into the cassette compartment and close the cassette door.
- Press the ● button and the ◀ button on the cassette control panel at the same time to start recording.
- To pause the recording, press the ▶II PLAY/PAUSE button on the CD control panel. The recording level is set automatically.
- To stop recording, press the ■ button on the cassette control panel.

Maintenance
Cleaning the Unit

Ensure the unit is fully unplugged from the mains socket before cleaning.
• To clean the unit, wipe the case with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth.
- Do not use any cleaning fluids containing alcohol, ammonia or abrasives.
- Do not spray an aerosol at or near the unit.
Handling Discs
- Do not touch the playback side of the disc.
- Do not attach paper or tape to the disc.

- Fingerprints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the centre outwards with a soft cloth. Always keep the disc clean.

- Do not use any type of solvent such as thinner, benzine, commercially available cleaners or antistatic spray. They may damage the disc.
Storing Discs
- Do not store discs in places subjected to direct sunlight or near heat sources.
- Do not store discs in places subjected to moisture and dust such as a bathroom or near a humidifier.
- Storing discs vertically in a case, stacking discs or placing objects on discs outside of their cases may cause warping.
Cleaning the Tape Deck
Use a cotton bud slightly moistened with alcohol or a special head cleaning fluid to clean the deck.
- Press the ■▲button to open the cassette compartment.
- Press the ◀ button and clean the rubber pressure rollers (A).
- Press the II button and clean magnetic heads (C) and Capstan (B).
- After cleaning, press the ▪button.

Cleaning of the heads can also be done by playing a cleaning cassette through once.
If a problem does occur, it may often be due to something very minor. The following table contains various tips.
