Frequently Asked Questions - MDF100E MATSUI

Why does oil overflow during frying?
Oil overflow can occur if the oil level is above the MAX mark, the basket is overloaded, or the food contains too much water or frost. Change oil every 8-12 uses and dry food thoroughly before frying.
What should I do if the fryer does not turn on?
Ensure the fryer is plugged into a working socket and that the temperature controller is not set to OFF. Check the power cord for damage.
Why is my food not frying properly?
Possible causes include overloading the basket, food pieces too thick or icy, oil temperature too low, or insufficient frying time. Reduce quantity, dry food, and adjust temperature or time.
How do I clean the deep fryer?
Unplug and let it cool completely. Remove the lid and basket. Wash the basket in warm soapy water. Wipe the lid and exterior with a damp cloth. Never immerse the main unit in water. Remove the filter before washing the lid.
When should I change the oil?
Oil should be changed every 8-12 uses, or more often if frying fish or battered foods. Filter oil between uses to remove food particles.
How do I replace the filter?
The filter is under the steam vents on the underside of the lid. Replace after about 15 uses, depending on the food fried. Ensure the plastic grill is clipped back into place after replacement. Never operate without a filter.
Can I use butter or olive oil for frying?
No, only use recommended oils. Butter, margarine, and olive oil are not suitable and may cause smoke or fire.
How can I prevent oil splattering?
Dry food thoroughly before frying and remove any ice from frozen food. Lower the basket gently into the oil to minimize splashes.
Is it safe to leave the fryer unattended while cooking?
No, never leave the fryer unattended while in use. Always monitor the cooking process.
What should I do if the oil catches fire?
Do not use water. Turn off the heat source if safe, and cover the fryer with the lid, a fire blanket, or a damp cloth. Evacuate and call the fire brigade.

Hints on Using Your Fryer

• Use a recommended oil - do not mix oils.
• Take into account the type of food when you set the frying temperature. Generally, pre-cooked foods need a higher cooking temperature than raw foods.
- If you need to add oil, do so between batches. Allow a short time for the oil to heat up to the right temperature.
- Ensure there is enough room to open the appliance lid and operate the frying basket.
- Cook food thoroughly. Remember that the food may have turned golden brown before it has cooked through.
- Use the fryer in well ventilated conditions. All food contains moisture which turns to steam during frying. Most of this steam escapes through the filter in the lid. Be careful when opening the lid as steam may still be present and it may scald.
- Do not lean over the fryer when cooking food or when opening the lid.
- Check the progress of the food through the viewing window.

• If your deep fat fryer should catch fire:

  • Raise the alarm to make sure that everyone in the household is aware of the fire. Call the Fire Brigade.
    • Turn off the heat source to the pan, if it is safe to do so!
  • Do not reach over the pan to get at the controls.
    • Do not attempt to move the pan.
  • Never put water anywhere near the fire! - the consequences could be disastrous.

- This type of fire is extinguished by placing a cover over the pan. This could be the lid, a fire blanket ot a damp (not wet) tea towel. CONSIDER YOUR OWN SAFETY FIRST!
