Frequently Asked Questions - UM-3G ROLAND

How to install the driver on Windows 7?
Before connecting the UM-3G, insert the supplied CD-ROM, open the UM-3G/Driver/Win7 folder, double-click Setup, follow the instructions. Then connect the UM-3G to the computer. The driver installs automatically.
How to connect multiple UM-3G or UM-3EX?
Set the first UM-3G to MASTER mode and UNIT=1, the subsequent ones to SLAVE with UNIT=2 and 3. Connect the linking cables between the UM-3G/UM-3EX connectors. Connect the master to the computer.
What does the MIDI THRU switch do?
In OFF position, MIDI messages from the MIDI IN connector are sent to the computer. In ON position, they are redirected to the MIDI OUT connector, without going through the computer.
The USB indicator does not light up, what should I do?
Check that the UM-3G is properly connected to the computer's USB port. If the driver is not installed, install it first. Make sure the computer provides enough power (no unpowered USB hub).
Can I use the UM-3G with Mac OS X?
Yes, install the driver from the CD-ROM (folder UM-3G/Driver/10.6 or 10.4_10.5 depending on your version). After installation, connect the UM-3G and configure the MIDI device in Audio MIDI Setup.
Does the UM-3G work without a computer?
Yes. Set the MIDI THRU switch to ON: incoming MIDI messages are sent directly to the MIDI OUT. No computer is needed.
How to uninstall the UM-3G driver?
Disconnect the UM-3G. Insert the CD-ROM, open the folder corresponding to your operating system and run Uninstall.exe (Windows) or UM3G-Uninstaller.pkg (Mac). Follow the instructions to complete the uninstallation.
What cables are supplied with the UM-3G?
The UM-3G comes with a USB cable (type B) and a CD-ROM containing drivers and documentation.
What to do in case of double sound (notes played twice)?
Disable the Local function on your sound module and the Thru function in your sequencer software. This prevents notes from being sent twice.
The computer does not recognize the UM-3G after installation, what should I do?
Uninstall the driver, restart, then reinstall following the procedure. Make sure to connect the UM-3G only after starting the installation. Also check that you are using a direct USB port (no unpowered hub).
