How to install the Cakewalk A-800PRO driver on Windows 7?

Start Windows without connecting the A-PRO. Close all software. Insert the included CD-ROM, open the Driver/Win7 folder, and double-click Setup. Follow the instructions, then when prompted, set the POWER switch to OFF, connect the A-PRO via USB, then switch to USB. The installation will complete automatically. Restart if necessary.

How to assign a MIDI message to a controller directly on the device?

Enter Edit mode by pressing the [ACT] and [>] buttons simultaneously (or [+] depending on model). Use the navigation buttons to select the desired controller (e.g., rotary knob R1). Press [ENTER] then choose the message type (Note, Control Change, etc.) with the [VALUE] dial. Confirm with [ENTER]. To return to Play mode, press [ACT] and [>] again simultaneously.

How to use the Split function?

In Play mode, press the [SPLIT] button. The keyboard is divided into two zones: the right part (UPPER) and the left part (LOWER). You can select different sounds for each part using the [UPPER] and [LOWER] buttons and then changing the program. To adjust the split point, go to Edit mode, parameter SPLIT POINT.

How to reset the A-PRO to factory settings?

Turn off the device. Hold down the [VALUE] and [ENTER] buttons while turning the device back on (USB or DC position). The display will show 'Factory Reset ?'. Turn the [VALUE] dial to select 'Yes' and press [ENTER]. The reset is performed. Release the buttons.

Why can't I hear any sound when I play the keyboard?

The A-PRO is a MIDI controller; it does not produce sound by itself. It must be connected to a computer or external sound module. Check that: 1) the driver is correctly installed, 2) the software (DAW) is configured to receive MIDI input from the A-PRO, 3) the MIDI channel of the A-PRO matches that of the receiver, 4) the volume of the software or sound module is audible.

How to connect an expression or sustain pedal?

Connect an expression pedal (Roland EV-5 or EV-7) to the EXPRESSION jack (P2) on the rear. Connect a footswitch (Roland DP-2 or DP-10) to the HOLD jack (P1). These pedals work immediately. You can also assign other MIDI messages to these inputs via Edit mode.

How to change the MIDI transmit channel?

In Play mode, use the [<] or [>] buttons to move the cursor to 'MIDI CH' on the display. Turn the [VALUE] dial to select the desired channel (1 to 16). Press [ENTER] to confirm. You can also hold [SHIFT] and use the numeric keys to directly enter the channel number.

What to do if driver installation fails on Windows XP?

Make sure you are logged in with an Administrator account. If a 'Driver Signature' message appears, go to Control Panel > System > Hardware > Driver Signing and set to 'Warn' or 'Ignore'. Then reinstall the driver from the CD-ROM by running Setup in the Driver/XP folder. If necessary, first uninstall the driver via the Uninstall file on the CD.

How to create and save a custom control map?

Use the A-PRO Editor software provided on the CD-ROM. Install it on your computer. Connect the A-PRO via USB. Open A-PRO Editor, then receive the control map from the A-PRO (Receive button). Modify the assignments as needed. Then transmit the modified control map to the A-PRO (Transmit button). You can also save the control map on your computer in SMF format via File > Save As.

How to update the firmware of the Cakewalk A-800PRO?

The manual does not mention a firmware update. However, drivers can be updated. Check the Roland website for possible updates. For drivers, uninstall the old version via the Uninstall file on the CD, then install the new downloaded version. No internal firmware update is described in the manual.
