Frequently Asked Questions - FR-18 D BK ROLAND

How do I turn on the FR-18 digital accordion?

Connect the supplied AC adapter to the DC IN jack and a wall outlet, or install 8 Ni-MH AA batteries in the compartment. Then press the POWER button on the control panel. The button lights up to indicate that the instrument is on.

Can I use ordinary alkaline batteries?

The manual recommends using only Ni-MH rechargeable AA batteries. Alkaline batteries are not mentioned as suitable. Ensure correct polarity during installation.

How do I change the key of the accordion?

Press the KEY/DEMO button (it lights up). The first two rows of right-hand buttons indicate the 12 keys (C, C#, D, etc.). Press the button corresponding to the desired key. The KEY button turns off automatically.

How do I select a different tablature?

Press the TABLATURE button (it lights up). The 12 buttons of the first right-hand row allow you to choose a tablature. Press the desired number. The selected tablature then uses its specific note configuration.

Can I connect headphones to the FR-18?

Yes, connect stereo headphones (e.g., Roland RH) to the PHONES jack on the connection panel. Adjust the volume with the VOLUME control. The OUTPUT jacks remain active even with headphones connected.

How do I use orchestral or organ sounds?

Press the ORCHESTRA/ORGAN button once for orchestral sounds (it lights red) or twice for organ sounds (it blinks). Then use the right-hand registers [1] to [4] to select the desired sound. Press the button again to return to accordion sound.

How do I save my personal settings?

Hold down the USER PROGRAM button until it blinks. A right-hand register lights up to indicate the selected memory. Press register [1] to [4] of your choice to save the current settings in that memory. The button stops blinking and remains lit.

What should I do if the bellows produce no sound or behave erratically?

First check that the instrument is on and the volume is not at minimum. If the bellows produce notes without action, turn the instrument off and then back on while holding down the ORCH. BASS and TABLATURE buttons to reset the sensors. If the problem persists, contact a Roland dealer.

How do I clean the digital accordion?

Use a dry, soft cloth. For stubborn stains, lightly moisten the cloth with water and a mild non-abrasive detergent, then wipe with a dry cloth. Avoid solvents, alcohol, or chemicals. Never clean the instrument while it is on.

Can I connect the FR-18 to a computer?

Yes, use a standard USB cable to connect the USB MIDI port of the FR-18 to a USB port on your computer. The instrument will appear as a MIDI device. You can then use sequencer or editing software. Make sure to install the Roland USB driver if necessary.
