IMPORTANT
Blades are coated with a protectant. To ensure proper fit and operation, remove the coating. Coating is easily removed with mild solvents, such as mineral spirits, and a soft cloth. Avoid getting cleaning solutions on any of the rubber or plastic parts. Solvents may deteriorate these finishes. Use soap and water on paint, plastic, or rubber components. After cleaning, cover all exposed surfaces with a light coating of oil.

WARNING: Never use highly volatile solvents. Non-flammable
solvents are recommended to avoid possible fire hazards.

General Safety Information

CAUTION: Always follow proper operating procedures as described in this manual, even if you are familiar with the use of this or similar tools. Remember that being careless for even a fraction of a second can result in severe personal injury.
SAFETY RULES
- Wear proper apparel. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, bracelets, or other jewelry which may get caught in moving parts of the machine.
- Wear protective hair covering to contain long hair.
- Wear safety shoes with non-slip soles.
- Wear safety glasses complying with United States ANSI Z87.1. Everyday glasses have only impact resistant lenses. They are NOT safety glasses.
- Be alert and think clearly. Never operate tools when tired, intoxicated, or when taking medications that cause drowsiness.
- Keep work area clean. Cluttered work areas invite accidents.
- Work area should be properly lit.
- Keep visitors at a safe distance from work area.
- Keep children out of workplace. Make workshop childproof. Use padlocks to prevent any unintentional use of tools.
- Assemble only according to these instructions. Improper assembly creates hazards.
- When tools are not in use, store them in a dry, secure place out of reach of children. Inspect the tools prior to storage and before reuse.
- Maintain product labels and nameplates. These carry important safety information.

WARNING
The warnings, cautions, and instructions discussed in this instruction manual cannot cover all possible conditions or situations that occur. It must be understood by the operator that common sense and caution are factors that cannot be built into this product, but must be used by the operator.
KNOW HOW TO USE TOOL
- Use right tool for job. Do not force tool or attachment to do a job for which it was not designed.
- Keep hands out of path of shear blades.
- The maximum capacity of this machine is 1/4" mild steel or equivalent. Exceeding capacity may be dangerous to operator and damage may be to the machine.
- Bolt machine to floor or sturdy stand that is bolted to floor to prevent sliding or tipping of machine.

IMPORTANT
DO NOT attempt to shear hardened or stainless steel blocks You will damage or break your shear blades!
ASSEMBLY
MOUNT HANDLE
Remove two hex head bolts #15 from pivot arm #12. Mount handle into groove on pivot arm. Secure handle with hex head bolts. Tighten securely.
MOUNT HOLD-DOWN PLATE
Insert threaded rod of hold-down plate #1 through hole in support block #4.
INSTALLATION
Machine should be installed on a level surface, with proper lighting. Machine can be floor mounted, stand-mounted or bench-mounted. Be sure to provide clearance for handlebar rotation. Use four mounting holes of base to bolt machine securely to floor, bench or stand (fasteners not included). Area around machine should be clear of scraps, oil or dirt. A suitable non-skid material to floor.
OPERATION
Rotating handle #13 operates the shear. Be sure to keep hands clear of shear when rotating handle. The maximum capacity of the machine is mild steel.
SHEARING PLATE AND FLAT BARS
- Adjust hold-down plate #1 so that the workpiece can lie horizontally between the shear blades. Place the workpiece between blades #7 and #20 and underneath the hold-down plate. Adjust the hold-down plate to be positioned at the top surface of the workpiece, with the workpiece held horizontally. Secure the hold-down plate in position by tightening it.
- Support the workpiece between the blades and underneath the hold-down plate at the position where the cut is desired. Pull handles #13 forward with both hands until the blade cuts through the workpiece.

CAUTION
Do not reach behind the shear to grasp the falling piece.
Shearing thicker material is done by “snapping” the crank handles so that the upper blade impacts the workpiece. The upper blade is mounted at an angle so that the workpiece can be sheared in small increments. To minimize distortion, approximately 5/8” of the workpiece should be sheared with each impact.
SHEARING ROUND BARS
Round bars up to 7/16" diameter can be cut with shear HS-5 / 6. Round bars up to 1/2" diameter can be cut with shear HS-8 / 10 / 12. Place the bar through the holes in the face of the upper blade #7 and die #10. Position the bar as desired and pull handle #13 forward until the bar is cut.
SHEAR BLADES
Always keep shear blades lubricated and clean of any dirt or rust. Any particles on the blades will drastically reduce the life of the blades. These blades should be sharpened according to industry standards by a competent grinding service only.

NOTE
If the material seems too thick or too hard, do not force it. Instead, use a metal-cutting bandsaw to cut the workpiece.
MAINTENANCE
- Consult the manual for specific maintaining and adjusting procedures.
- Keep the tool lubricated and clean for safest operation. All exposed metal surfaces should be coated with light oil to prevent rusting.
- Remove adjusting tools. Form the habit of checking to see that adjusting tools are removed before using the machine.
- Keep all parts in working order. Check to determine that the guard and other parts will operate properly and perform their intended function.
- Check for damaged parts. Check for alignment of moving parts, bit breakage, and mounting or any other condition that may affect tool operation.
- Check the handle and base mounting bolts to ensure they are tight.
- A guard or other damaged part should be properly repaired or replaced. Do not perform makeshift repairs. (Use parts list provided to order replacement parts.)
TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
