3 Operation and Handling
This chapter provides you with important information and notes on the operation and basic settings of the appliance.

ATTENTION
Do not leave the device unattended while in use.
Caution, the grill plates are heated directly after switching on. The device's surfaces will also become hot; there is a danger of burns! After starting the appliance, only touch the handle, the height adjustment slider, the swivelling lever, the hinge release and the controls
▶ Warning: If the surface is cracked, switch off the appliance to avoid a possible electric shock.
3.1 Before first use
- Place the appliance on a stable surface.
- Set the height adjustment slider (4) to the "OPEN" position. Only then can the appliance be opened.
- For more information on cleaning, see the chapter „Cleaning and care“.
PLEASE NOTE
IMPORTANT: When you use your waffle maker for the first time there may be a slight smell and some smoke. To begin with, operate the appliance for at least 20 minutes without food, at the highest temperature (240 °C / 460 °F). Then allow the appliance to cool down in the open position.
3.2 3 different uses
Set the height adjustment slider (4) to the "Lock" position during transport or for storage. For use or cleaning, always set the slider to the „Open" position first.
3.2.1 Use with the lid closed (contact grilling)
Use this position to warm up the grill plates and to grill solid food. You can use the height adjustment slider (4) to adjust the position of the lid to the thickness of the food to be grilled (position 1 approx. 2 cm to position 5 approx. 5.5 cm). You can use the swivelling lever (2) to swivel the grill plates parallel to each other, so the food is cooked from above and below at the same time without being crushed.
Typical use: hamburger patties, steaks, fi sh, vegetables, paninis or sandwiches.
3.2.2 Use with open lid
Use this position for food that is only to be heated from one side. After heating up, carefully open the appliance until it is stable in the open position. Place the food on the lower grill plate and leave the lid in the upright position.
Typical use: shashlik, vegetable skewers, items with liquid sauces or pancakes
3.2.3 Use with the lid fully folded down
Use this position if you want to place food on both grilling surfaces. To do this, hold the lid by the handle with your left hand and press the hinge release (5) while carefully placing the lid backwards onto the work surface. The lid will fold back completely by 180°. This provides you with both a smooth grilling surface and a ribbed grilling surface.
Typical use: for grilling larger quantities, simultaneous grilling of dishes of different thicknesses or whose flavours should remain separate, e.g. fish and meat.
3.3Operation
Prepare your food by removing all non-edible parts, such as seeds and stalks from vegetables or bones from meat. Cut the food into pieces of the desired size and thickness. Allow frozen food to defrost before preparing it.

Do not place cloths or napkins over or under the appliance.
▶ Fat and cooking juices will spray out of the food. Do not stand too close to the appliance.
Before assembling the appliance, check that the grill plates are absolutely clean and dry.
The appliance can only be put into operation if both grill plates are inserted correctly, otherwise Er1 or Er2 will appear on the control panel.

Carefully open the lid and place your food on the grill plate.
-
Close the lid or, if necessary, adjust the lid to the right height for your food. To do this, hold the lid at the right height for your food and use the height adjustment slider (4) to set the height for your food. Use the swivelling lever (2) to tilt the grill plate to the desired angle. Caution! The housing of the appliance is very hot! Only touch the appliance by the handle, the height adjustment slider, the swivelling lever, the hinge release and the controls.

Never place the thermometer on the grill plates!
If the grill thermometer is not connected correctly, "Er3" will appear on the control panel. Check that the cable is correctly connected.
PLEASE NOTE
If you are using an automatic program, the entire setpoint range of core temperatures may not be available. If necessary, select a different automatic program or deactivate the selected program.
The temperature control has no influence on the temperature of the grilling surfaces. The appliance continues to work unchanged even after the desired core temperature has been reached.
- Pull the grill thermometer compartment forward out of the appliance.
- Completely unwind the cable from the grill thermometer and connect it to the appliance.
- Press the Ⓞ button to switch on the grill thermometer. The control panel displays "probe temp" and the desired temperature display fl ashes.

- The appliance confirms the entry with a beep.
- If you want to adjust the setpoint again, press the Ⓞ button twice to restart the entry.
- Insert the tip of the grill thermometer into the food whose cooking process you want to monitor. The tip should reach as far as possible into the centre.
- The actual core temperature is indicated by a series of lines in the display panel. The lines flash initially and light up continuously as soon as the corresponding temperature is reached. Each line corresponds to a setpoint value to be set: 45 °C (113 °F), 50 °C (122 °F), 55 °C (131 °F), 60 °C, (140 °F), 65 °C (149 °F), 75 °C (167 °F).

The device must be cleaned and food residues must be removed at regular intervals. If the device is not maintained in a clean condition, this will have a detrimental effect on the service life of the device and can also result in a dangerous condition in the device as well as in the growth of fungus and bacteria.
Clean the device after use as soon as it has cooled down. Extended waiting unnecessarily complicates cleaning and can make it impossible in extreme cases.
4.2Cleaning
- Remove the drip tray from the appliance by pressing on the drip tray housing on the left-hand side of the appliance. The drip tray springs back and can then be easily removed from the appliance. Empty the drip tray and clean it in warm dishwater or alternatively put it in the dishwasher.
- Clean the tip of the grill thermometer after each use. Make sure that only the tip of the thermometer comes into contact with water. The handle and the cable can be wiped with a damp cloth.
PLEASE NOTE
When removing the grill plates, make sure that no liquids drip into the inside of the appliance or onto the hinges.
- Remove the grill plates by pressing the "eject" release buttons (12). The grill plates can then be easily released from the clamps on the hinge. Clean the grill plates in warm dishwater or alternatively put them in the dishwasher.
- Wipe the inside and outside of the appliance with a damp cloth.
- Dry all parts thoroughly after cleaning before reassembling the appliance.

6 Disposal of the Old Device
Old electric and electronic devices frequently still contain valuable materials. However, they also contain damaging substances, which were necessary for their functionality and safety. If these were put in the non-recyclable waste or were handled incorrectly, they could be detrimental to human health and the environment. Therefore, do not put your old device into the non-recyclable waste under any circumstances.

PLEASE NOTE
Utilise the collection point, established in your town, to return and recycle old electric and electronic devices. If necessary, contact your town hall, local refuse collection service or your dealer for information.
▶ Ensure that your old device is stored safely away from children until it is taken away.
6.1 Disposal of the packaging
The packaging protects the device against damages during transit. The packaging materials are selected in accordance with environmentally compatible and recycling-related points of view and can therefore be recycled. Returning the packaging back to the material loop saves raw materials and reduces the

quantities of accumulated waste. Take any packaging materials that are no longer required to "Green Dot" recycling collection points for disposal.
