5. Getting started

  • Place the base station and the transmitter on a table at a distance of about 1.5 meters from each other. Avoid being close to possible sources of interference such as electronic devices and radio equipment.
  • Open the battery compartment at the back of the base station.
  • Insert two new AAA 1.5 V batteries into the battery compartment. Make sure the polarities are correct.

Wireless Weather Station

5.1 Inserting the batteries in the outdoor transmitter/Reception of outdoor values

• Close the bellows sampardman!
- The device will alert you with a beep, all LCD segments will be displayed and the backlight will turn on for a short moment. The device is ready for use. The indoor temperature and humidity with comfort level indicator of indoor climate appear on the base station display.
- For a permanent backlight and to save battery life, use the supplied power adapter. Insert the power adapter pin into the device jack and connect the plug to a wall socket. Important! Make sure that your household voltage is no more than 240V1 Otherwise, your device may be damaged.
- Slide down the battery compartment lid of the transmitter.
- Insert two new batteries 1.5 V AA into the battery compartment of the outdoor transmitter. Make sure the polarities are correct. The switch is set to channel 1. All LCD segments will be displayed for a short moment and the LED light flashes. The display shows the current temperature and humidity.
- Press the °C/°F button in the battery compartment of the transmitter, to change between °C (Celsius) or °F (Fahrenheit) as temperature unit.

GB

  • The base station automatically starts scanning the signals to register the outdoor transmitter at channel 1 after batteries are inserted. The reception symbol for the transmitter flashes.
  • As soon as the base station receives the outdoor values, the values are permanently shown.
  • If the reception of the outdoor values falls within three minutes, “--” appears on the display. Check the batteries and try it again. Check if there is any source of interference.
  • You can also start the outdoor transmitter search manually later on (for example when the outdoor transmitter is lost or the batteries are changed).
  • Hold the CH button on the base station for three seconds.
  • “-” appears on the outdoor values display and the reception symbol for the transmitter flashes. Press the TX button in the transmitter's battery compartment.
    • After a successful installation close the battery compartment of the outdoor transmitter carefully.

5.2 Reception of the DCF frequency signal

  • Some minutes after start-up the clock will scan the DCF frequency signal and the DCF symbol flashes.
  • When the time code is successfully received after 3-7 minutes, the radio-controlled time, the date, the day of the week and the DCF symbol will be shown steadily on the display.

Wireless Weather Station

  • The DCF reception always takes place at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 o clock in the morning. If the signal is not successfully received, another DCF reception will take place the next full hour (up to 5 times).
  • You can also activate the DCF reception manually. Press and hold the – button for 3 seconds.
    • The DCF reception symbol flashes.
  • Interrupt the reception by pressing the – button again. The DCF reception symbol disappears.
  • Important: The device cannot be operated during the DCF time-signal reception. To avoid interference, the backlight turns off during the reception of the radio-controlled clock.
    • There are 3 different reception symbols:

TFA OAK 35.1167.54 - Wireless Weather Station - 1

flashing – reception is active

TFA OAK 35.1167.54 - Wireless Weather Station - 2

flashing – signal is found

TFA OAK 35.1167.54 - Wireless Weather Station - 3

solid - reception is successful

  • If the clock cannot detect the DCF-signal (e.g. due to interference, transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be set manually.
  • The clock will then work as a normal quartz clock (see: "Manual settings").

GB

5.3 Note on radio-controlled time

  • The time is transmitted from an atomic clock near Frankfurt am Main by a DCF-77 (77.5 kHz) frequency signal with a range of about 1,500 km. Your radio-controlled clock receives the signal, converts it and always shows the exact time. The adjustment of Daylight Saving Time and Standard Time is also automatic. In Daylight Saving Time DST is shown on the display.
  • Avoid being close to possible sources of interference that may affect radio reception (see "Location and mounting").
  • During night-time, the atmospheric interference is usually less severe. A single daily reception is adequate to keep the accuracy deviation under 1 second.

6. Operation

• The weather station has 5 different weather symbols.

- The weather forecast covers a range of 12 hours and indicates only a general weather trend. For example, if the current weather is cloudy and the rain symbol is displayed, it does not mean the product is faulty because it is not raining. It simply means that the air pressure has dropped and the weather is expected to get worse but not necessarily rain.

9.2 Trend Indicator

- The trend arrows on the display will show whether the atmospheric pressure is increasing, steady or decreasing.

10. Moon phase (Fig. 6)

• The actual moon phase is shown on the display.

11. Location and mounting

  • When placed outdoors, choose a shady and dry place for the transmitter. Direct sunlight may trigger incorrect measurement and continuous humidity damages the electronic components needlessly.
  • Place the base station in any room of the house.
  • Avoid being close to possible sources of interference that may affect radio reception. It is recommended to keep a distance of at least 2 metres to possibly interfering sources (TV, computer, microwave, wireless phones, baby monitors) and large metal objects (e.g. refrigerator). Within solid walls, especially ones with metal parts, the transmission range can be reduced considerably.

  • In extreme cases, please place the unit close to a window to improve reception.

  • Check whether the transmission from the transmitter to the base station is possible and whether the DCF radio clock signal can be received.
  • If necessary, choose, another position for the outdoor transmitter and/or receiver.
  • If the transmission is successful, you can wall mount the outdoor transmitter with the suspension device.
  • Do not use the base station in the vicinity of radiators, other sources of heat or in direct sunlight.

12. Additional outdoor transmitters (optional)

  • When having more than one temperature-humidity sensor, select a different channel for each one with the 1/2/3 switch inside the transmitter's battery compartment. Insert two new AA 1.5 V batteries, polarity as illustrated. Start the base station operation or the manual search for the outdoor transmitters.
  • For the manual search choose the respective channel by pressing the CH button on the base station. Press and hold the CH button for 3 seconds.
  • "--" appears on the outdoor values display and the reception symbol for the transmitter flashes. Press the TX button in the corresponding transmitter's battery compartment.

GB

Wireless Weather Station

  • The outdoor values and the channel number will be shown on the base station display. If you have installed more than one temperature-humidity sensor, press the CH button on the base station to change between the channels 1 to 3.
  • You can also choose an alternating channel display. After the last registered channel (1 to 3) a circle symbol will appear. To deactivate the function, press the CH button again.
  • Press the + button to view the maximum and minimum values for the displayed channel.
  • After a successful installation close the outdoor transmitter's battery compartments carefully.

13. Battery replacement

- Change the outdoor transmitter's batteries when the battery symbol appears on the outdoor values display of the base station or on the display of the transmitter.

- Change the base station batteries when the battery symbol appears on the indoor values display.

- Please note:

When the batteries are changed, the contact between the outdoor transmitter and the base station must be restored – so always restart both devices or start a manual transmitter search.
