Frequently Asked Questions - TT301 THOMSON

How to install the drive belt if it has loosened?
Remove the platter mat and the E-ring from the spindle, then release the platter. Place the belt on the inner edge of the platter and thread it through the hole. Hold the belt with your fingers and place it on the motor pulley. Reattach the E-ring and the mat. Make sure the belt is not twisted or deformed.
How to select the playback speed (33 or 45 rpm)?
Use the speed selector (8) on top. Press to switch between 33 rpm (default for 12-inch records) and 45 rpm (for 7-inch records). Use the provided 45 rpm adapter for such records.
What does the PHONO/LINE selector mean and how to use it?
In PHONO position, the signal is not amplified and requires an external preamplifier or a phono input on the amplifier. In LINE position, the internal preamplifier is active and you can connect the turntable directly to active speakers or a line input.
How to use the automatic stop?
By default, the turntable stops automatically at the end of the record. If the record is long and stops before the end, press the Automatic stop button (6) to disable this function. Press again to re-enable automatic stop.
Can I connect the turntable to Bluetooth speakers or headphones?
The turntable has an RCA line output. For Bluetooth speakers, you will need a Bluetooth adapter connected to the output. For headphones, use the provided RCA to 3.5 mm jack adapter, but the headphones must be active or amplified.
How to clean and maintain the turntable?
Always unplug the device before cleaning. Use a soft dry cloth. Do not use abrasive products, solvents, or harsh cleaners. Do not lubricate any parts. Protect the stylus with its protection during cleaning or moving.
What to do if the needle skips or the sound is bad?
Check that the belt is correctly installed and not deformed. Ensure the record is clean and not warped. Check the tonearm adjustment (if applicable). If the problem persists, contact customer service.
How to install the dust cover?
Place the cover on top of the device by gently inserting the hinges into the designated slots. Make sure it is securely attached.
What are the important safety precautions?
Do not open the casing. Avoid exposure to water, moisture, and heat sources. Use only the provided adapter. Unplug during thunderstorms or prolonged non-use. Keep a distance of at least 20 cm from the human body. Do not let children play with the device or the cord.
Where to find the serial number and contact support?
The rating plate is located under the device. For any assistance, contact Bigben Interactive customer service at 09 69 39 79 59 (non-premium rate call) or by email at support.thomson@bigben.fr.

Warning

  1. Make sure that the drive belt isn't misshapen or twisted.
  2. Avoid getting oil on the belt. Oil splashed could make the belt slip.

Connection:

  1. Place the dust cover (10) on top of the device by gently inserting the hinges into the dedicated spaces.
  2. Insert the power cable into the appliance's socket, then connect the other end to the mains socket.
  3. Turn on the record player using the On/Off button (16) on the unit.

Phono/line selector:

  • The phono/line selector (12) is located on the rear panel.
  • By selecting "PHONO", the audio signal bypasses the internal pre-amplifier, without being processed. The record player must therefore be connected to an external pre-amplifier in order to play the music. Please also note that you may need to connect a separate earth wire to the earthing points on the turntable and the amplifier if you hear a noise.
  • By selecting "LINE", the audio signal is processed by the internal pre-amplifier. The record player can be directly connected to active speakers to play the music.

Use:

  • Place a record on the record player turntable (9) and select the appropriate playback speed: 33 or 45 rpm (8). (The default playback speed is 33 rpm for 12 inch (30.48 cm) records. Press the speed selector (8) to switch to 45 rpm for 7 inch (17.78 cm) records.
  • Remove the stylus protector and release the tone arm (4). Push the lever (2) up to raise the tone arm (4), then gently move the tone arm to the desired position on the record. The turntable will begin to spin as the tone arm approaches the record.
  • The deck will stop automatically when the record has finished. Press the Turntable auto-stop button (6) if you don't want the record to stop automatically at the end.
NOTE: this action is only necessary if your record is particularly long and stops automatically before the end of the playback. You will normally not need to use this function.
  • Please also note that as soon as you press the Auto-stop button (6), the turntable will start rotating. This is completely normal. Press the Auto-stop button again to stop the rotation.
  • When the record has finished playing, push the lever (2) back to raise the tone arm and gently place it back on the arm rest (3), then lock the tone arm to protect it from any unexpected movement.

To avoid damaging the stylus, make sure the stylus protector provided is in place when installing, moving or cleaning the turntable.

When you play a 45 rpm record, use the 45 rpm adapter supplied with the device.
