General machine safety warnings

WARNING Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this machine. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Save all warnings and instructions for future reference.

The term "machine" in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (cored) machine or battery-operated (cordless) machine.

1) Work area safety

a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate machines in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Machines create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a machine. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Machine plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) machines. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not operate the machine in rain or wet conditions. This may increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the machine. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a machine outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) If operating a machine in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

3) Personal safety

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a machine. Do not use a machine while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating machines may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skiid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the machine. Carrying machines with your finger on the switch or energising machines that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the machine on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the machine may result in personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the machine in unexpected situations.
) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of machines allow you to become complacent and ignore machine safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4) Machine use and care

a) Do not force the machine. Use the correct machine for your application. The correct machine will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the machine if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any machine that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the machine before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing machines. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the machine accidentally.
d) Store idle machines out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the machine or these instructions to operate the machine. Machines are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

EN

e) Maintain machines and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the machine's operation. If damaged, have the machine repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained machines.
f) Keep cutting machines sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting machines with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the machine, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the machine for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the machine in unexpected situations.

5) Battery machine use and care

a) Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
b) Use machines only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
c) When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
d) Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
e) Do not use a battery pack or machine that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
f) Do not expose a battery pack or machine to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130^ (265^) may cause explosion.
g) Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or machine outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

6) Service

a) Have your machine serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the machine is maintained.
b) Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

c) Thoroughly inspect the area where the lawn scarifier is to be used and remove all stones, sticks, wires, bones, and other foreign objects. Thrown objects can cause personal injury.
d) Before using the lawn scarifier, always visually inspect to see that the tines and the tines assembly are not worn or damaged. Worn or damaged parts increase the risk of injury.
e)-
f) Keep guards in place. Guards must be in working order and be properly mounted. A guard that is loose, damaged, or is not functioning correctly may result in personal injury.
g) Keep all cooling air inlets clear of debris. Blocked air inlets and debris may result in overheating or risk of fire.
h) While operating the lawn scarifier, always wear non-slip and protective footwear. Do not operate the lawn scarifier when barefoot or wearing open sandals. This reduces the chance of injury to the feet from contact with the moving tines.
i) While operating the lawn scarifier, always wear long trousers. Exposed skin increases the likelihood of injury from thrown objects.
j) Do not operate the lawn scarifier in wet grass. Walk, never run. This reduces the risk of slipping and falling which may result in personal injury.
k) Do not operate the lawn scarifier on excessively steep slopes. This reduces the risk of loss of control, slipping and falling which may result in personal injury.
) When working on slopes, always be sure of your footing, always work across the face of slopes, never up or down and exercise extreme caution when changing direction. This reduces the risk of loss of control, slipping and falling which may result in personal injury.
m) Use extreme caution when reversing or pulling the lawn scarifier towards you. Always be aware of your surroundings. This reduces the risk of tripping during operation.
n) Only hold the machine by the insulated gripping surfaces, as the tines may come into contact with covered live wires. Contact between the tines and a live wire can also energise metal parts of the appliance and lead to an electric shock.
o) Do not touch tines and other hazardous moving parts while they are still in motion. This reduces the risk of injury from moving parts.
p) When clearing jammed material or cleaning the lawn scarifier, make sure all power switches are off and the battery pack is disconnected. Unexpected operation of the lawn scarifier may result in serious personal injury.

The noise level and vibration value specified in the operating instructions have been determined in accordance with the standard and may differ from these values when the machine is actually used. This depends on the way in which the machine is used.

It is necessary to define safety measures to protect the operator based on an estimation of the vibration load during the actual conditions of use. All parts of the operating cycle must be taken into account, for example times when the machine is switched off or switched on but not under load.

The use of unbalanced cutting tools, excessive travelling speed and inadequate maintenance have a significant impact on noise emissions and vibrations. Preventive measures must therefore be taken to avoid possible damage caused by high noise levels or vibration stresses.

Ensure that the machine is well maintained, wear hearing protection and take breaks during work.

Observe the maintenance work listed in these operating instructions and have the appliance checked and serviced regularly by an authorised specialist workshop.

Maintenance and storage

Insufficient maintenance of your appliance leads to safety-relevant defects.
- Ensure that all screw connections are firmly tightened and that the appliance is in a safe working condition.

SABO 45PRO E V PUSH - Maintenance and storage - 1

Check the condition and tight fit of the entire cutting unit before each scarifying operation. Worn or damaged blades must always be replaced. Always have the blades replaced or work on the cutter head carried out by a specialist workshop. An incorrectly assembled cutter shaft can cause parts to come loose, which can lead to serious injuries.

  • Replace worn or damaged parts for safety reasons.

SABO 45PRO E V PUSH - Maintenance and storage - 2

Always wear protective gloves when carrying out maintenance and cleaning work.

  • Suitable protective equipment (e.g. suitable protective gloves) must be worn when handling operating materials such as lubricants.

Before starting the engine, ensure that the cutter shaft/appliance is in the lift-out position Z2.

Only start the engine while standing behind the scarifier.

Always place the scarifier on a level surface that is not overgrown with tall grass (grass that is too tall impedes the start-up of the cutter shaft and makes the starting process more difficult). When starting or cranking the engine, the machine must not be tilted upwards but, if necessary, must be tilted by pressing down the guide bar so that the cutting tool points in the direction away from the user, but only as far as is absolutely necessary. As long as the appliance is not standing on all 4 wheels, both hands must be on the upper part of the handlebar. Before doing so, ensure that one or two charged batteries are in the battery compartment (see chapter "Inserting the charged battery").

We recommend using two batteries with the same capacity, preferably with at least 7.5 Ah and the same charge status.

If only one battery is used or batteries with a capacity of less than 7.5Ah only 80% of the motor power is available.

Note: The engine can only be started in the sequence described below.

Otherwise, contact the nearest authorised specialist workshop.

14 SETTING THE SCARIFYING DEPTH

SABO 45PRO E V PUSH - SETTING THE SCARIFYING DEPTH - 1

Safety note!

For explanation of symbols, see table

on page !

The scarifying depth may only be set when the engine is switched off!

To work with the scarifier, move the scaring lever forwards to the "Scarifying" position T2. This lowers the device together with the cutter shaft and the blades penetrate the turf.

The working depth depends on the wear of the blades and must also be adjusted to the respective grass and soil conditions.

Always check and adjust the scarifying depth on a level lawn.

With the cutter shaft lowered, the blades should score the turf evenly. A working depth of 3 to 5mm is recommended. The scantifying depth can be set slightly greater for a well-kept, stone-free lawn with soft soil. If the lawn is very mossy, you should start with a shallower working depth.

Setting (Figure V2 + T2 + Z2)

Set the scarifying depth as follows:

After loosening the lock nut on the adjusting screw V2, set the working depth so that the blades penetrate approx. 3 to 5mm into the ground when the scarifier is lowered (hand lever forwards) T2.
- Tighten the lock nut again after adjustment.
- To lift the device from the set working position, move the lever all the way back to the "Transport" position. This does not change the set scarifying depth Z2!

After a few hours of operation, it will be necessary to readjust the scarring depth due to wear. The more intensive the use, the greater the wear on the blades. Hard or very dry soils accelerate wear. The scarring depth should then be adjusted in the same way as described above.

Explanation of symbols see table on

page 5

NOTE

To protect the cutter head, avoid tight bends and raise the cutter head before turning.

NOTE

If the battery voltage is too low, the motor switches off automatically. Therefore, charge the battery or batteries in good time.

Scarifying on slopes

CAUTION

Do not scarify on excessively steep slopes! Scarifying on slopes always harbours risks. Always ensure that you are standing securely. Hand-held scarifiers should never be used on slopes steeper than 26% (15° incline).

There is a risk of losing stability!

Checking operational safety

The scarifier is equipped with a motor stop device.

Before each scarifying operation, check that the safety switch bracket motor stop is working properly. When the safety switch bracket is released, the engine must switch off and the cutting tool must come to a standstill (Caution! The cutting tool runs for a while!). Otherwise, contact the nearest authorised specialist workshop.

After being released, the safety switch bracket must always spring back into the position shown in the "Description of components" illustration.

If this is not the case, an immediate inspection by an authorised specialist workshop is required.

Safety and protective devices on the machine must not be manipulated or deactivated!

Ensure that all protective devices are properly fitted and not damaged!

To avoid a hazard, check the condition and tight fit of the blades before each scarifying operation (see chapter "Maintenance of the cutter shaft"). Always have work on the cutter shaft carried out by a specialist workshop. An incorrectly assembled cutter shaft can cause parts to come loose, which can lead to serious injuries.

Check the screws and nuts of the appliance for tightness every 10 operating hours and retighten if necessary!

If the cutter shaft is blocked, e.g. by hitting an obstacle or by foreign objects, have an authorised specialist workshop check whether parts of the scarifier are damaged or deformed. Always have any necessary repairs carried out by an authorised specialist workshop.

If the machine starts to vibrate abnormally or make unusual noises, it must be checked immediately by an authorised specialist workshop.

Time restrictions

Regional restrictions may apply to the operation of scarifiers. Please contact your local authority before starting up the scarifier.

Tips for lawn care (Figure M)

WARNING

Remove all foreign objects (stones, wood, branches, etc.) from the lawn before each cut; however, keep an eye out for objects lying around during scarifying.

When scarifying, guide the device in straight paths at a moderate walking speed.

Due to the forward direction of rotation of the cutter shaft, only a low pushing force is required. Depending on the ground conditions, it may be necessary to hold the scarifier back against the working direction. Avoid tight cornering.

If the lawn is very mossy or weedy, it is advisable to scarify a second time at right angles to the first working direction. Remove the scarified material before the second pass. Additional scarified material would impair the scarifying result, put additional strain on the device and make work unnecessarily difficult for the operator (stronger pushing forces).

The easiest way to remove/collect the scarified material is by vacuuming with a lawn mower with TurboStar system or by raking manually.

16 MAINTENANCE INTERVALS

IMPORTANT

Avoid damage! Under extreme or exceptional conditions, shorter maintenance periods than those specified below may be required. If you notice any defects, please contact an authorised specialist workshop.

Carry out routine maintenance on the machine in accordance with the following maintenance intervals.

Transporting and securing the appliance (Figure N + A1 + N4)

IMPORTANT

Ensure that the cable is not pinched, crushed, twisted or overstretched when folding and unfolding the guide rails! Always route the cables on the outside of the rail connection. A damaged cable can lead to a technical defect in the appliance.

If the appliance is to be carried, take hold of the housing at the front and the crossbar of the upper part of the guide rail at the rear (see figure N).
For space-saving storage or transport, the upper part of the handlebar can also be folded over the motor. To do this, loosen the grip nuts and swivel the upper part of the handlebar over the motor (see Figure A1). Ensure that the cable for the motor actuation is not kinked or crushed! For transport, take hold of the housing at the front and the crossbar of the lower part of the guide rail at the rear.

CAUTION

When moving the rail for transport and storage purposes, the rail may inadvertently tip over when the grip nuts are loosened. There may also be crushing points between the lower part of the rail and the upper part of the rail. There is a risk of injury!

Note the weight of the machine before lifting or carrying (see chapter "Technical data"). Lifting heavy weights can lead to health problems.

We recommend that the appliance is always lifted or carried by at least two people if other aids are not available.

If the appliance is transported on a loading area, a loading ramp should be used for loading and unloading.

CAUTION

Avoid injuries! Take particular care when loading or unloading the machine.

When using a trailer, it is recommended to ensure that it is equipped with sturdy side walls.

Only the designated points on the transport vehicle may be used to secure the appliance.

Transport the appliance upright on all 4 wheels to prevent damage to the appliance and injury to persons.
- Park the means of transport on level ground so that the appliance cannot roll away before it is secured.
- Securely fasten the appliance on or in the vehicle using approved load securing equipment (e.g. lashing straps with tensioning element). Lashing straps are straps made of synthetic fibres. Each lashing strap is labelled. The label contains important information on use. The instructions on this label must be observed when using the lashing strap.
- Direct lashing with four lashing straps is recommended for loads that can roll. To do this, the straps are attached directly to the attachment points on the appliance (see Figure N4) and to the lashing points on the cargo bed and slightly pre-tensioned.

CAUTION

Do not overtighten the straps. Fixing the appliance too tightly can lead to damage.
