Frequently Asked Questions - DO354VD DOMO

What foods can I dehydrate with the DOMO DO354VD?
You can dehydrate almost all foods: fruits (apples, bananas), vegetables (tomatoes, carrots), herbs, meats, fish, and even make fruit leathers. Use the drying sheet for small fruits or sticky foods.
How do I set the temperature and dehydration time?
Press the switch, then use the temperature adjustment buttons (35-75 °C, in 5 °C increments) and timer buttons (1-24 h, per hour). Then press the start button. You can adjust settings during operation.
Can I leave the appliance running all night?
Yes, the timer allows programming up to 24 hours. The appliance stops automatically at the end of the cycle. Make sure not to exceed 24 consecutive hours and let it cool for 2 hours before reuse.
How do I clean the trays and the dehydrator?
Wash the trays, fruit leather tray, and drying sheet with warm water and a little detergent, then dry them. Do not put them in the dishwasher. Clean the interior and exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth. Never immerse the housing.
Why does smoke or odor come out during the first use?
This is normal during first use. Run the appliance empty for 30 minutes, then rinse the trays again. Ensure good ventilation.
What is the best temperature for dehydrating herbs?
Herbs are best dehydrated at low temperature, around 35-40 °C, to preserve their aromas. Use the drying sheet to prevent them from falling through the grids.
Can I dehydrate foods without peeling them?
Yes, peeling is not mandatory. It reduces drying time but loses vitamins and minerals. Simply wash the food and remove damaged parts.
How do I store dehydrated foods?
Let them cool completely, then place them in airtight containers or vacuum bags. Store in a dry, cool place (≤15 °C) away from light. Fruits and vegetables keep up to 1 year, dried meat 3 months in the fridge or 1 year in the freezer.
What to do if the appliance does not turn on?
Check that the plug is properly inserted and the outlet works. Ensure the door is closed properly (the appliance may have a sensor). If the problem persists, contact DOMO customer service at +32 14 21 71 91.
Can I use an extension cord with this appliance?
No, using an extension cord or power strip is not recommended for safety reasons. Plug the appliance directly into a grounded wall outlet.

BEFORE THE FIRST USE

  1. Rinse the stainless steel trays, the drying sheet, the drip tray and the door - never rinse the entire appliance - with water and dry them with a towel.
  2. Start the empty machine and allow it to run while empty for 30 minutes. Light smoke and an odour may be released; this is normal. Ensure adequate ventilation.
  3. Rinse the shelves again and dry them with a cloth.
  4. The machine is now ready for use. (This is only necessary the very first time you use the machine, after you have unpacked it.)

USE

PREPARATION

· Wash the food and pat it dry with a towel or paper towel.
- Peeling the food prior to drying it does decrease the drying time, but it also results in the loss of valuable vitamins and minerals.
- Cut the food into pieces, slices or strips of approximately the same size and thickness. Remove seeds, pits, etc. if necessary. Cut away any damaged or bruised areas.
- Hard food (e.g. hard vegetables) and vegetables that may not be consumed raw are best if blanched first, so that it is semi-soft prior to drying. This decreases the drying time and ensures that less vitamins are lost. Make sure that the food is sufficiently dried prior to drying it.

FILLING THE TRAYS

· Divide the food evenly over the stainless steel trays. Do not allow pieces to overlap.
• Make sure that a maximum of 90 % of the tray is covered, in order to allow for good air circulation.
· Depending on the size of the food, the trays can be adjusted in height.
- Use the drying sheet for smaller food, such as herbs and berries, or for sticky food, such as bananas and tomatoes.
- Place the collection tray on the bottom of the food dryer to keep it clean. You can also use the collection tray for making fruit leather.

DRYING FOOD

  1. Close the door after filling the shelves. Plug the power cord into a socket. You will hear a signal and the display will light up.
  2. Press the on/off button.
  3. Set the temperature. The appliance is automatically programmed at 70^ C with a timer set at 10 hours. Press the temperature button to set the temperature ( 35-75^ C). By increasing and decreasing the temperature, you can choose the temperature you want. You can set it per 5^ C.
  4. Set the time. Press the timer button. By increasing and decreasing the time, you can choose the time you want (1-24 hours). This can be set per hour.
  5. When both the desired temperature and time have been selected, press the start button and the appliance will start drying. You can hear the fan running and the 'H' of the time display will flash.
  6. During operation, the time on the display will count down. If the remaining time is less than one hour, the countdown time will be displayed in minutes. When the set time has elapsed, the appliance will beep and switch off automatically. The fan will continue to run for 10 seconds.

- The table above provides the recommended temperatures for different types of food. This is only a guideline.

- The best temperature or time setting depends on several factors, such as the humidity of the food, the humidity in the air, the thickness of the food, the volume of food to be dried, the number of shelves used, personal preference, etc.

- To make it easier to determine the settings, we recommend keeping track of the weight and times for drying.

· Always use the food dryer in a dust-free, dry, and well-ventilated area.

· While drying food, the temperature and timer can be adjusted at any time, if so required.

· If you want to stop drying earlier, press the on/off button.

- Check the status of your food every hour.

PRESERVATION OF DRIED FOOD

  • Allow the food to cool completely before putting it away
  • Save the food in air-tight jars or bags so that the food cannot absorb any moisture. In this way the food can be preserved for a long time.
  • Save the food in a dry, dark place.

  • Store in a cool place, preferably at 15^ C or below.

  • Do not use a metal container for storing dried food.
  • If properly packed and stored, dried fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, and bread can be kept for up to one year.
  • If properly packed and stored, dried meat, poultry, and fish can be kept for up to three months in the refrigerator or up to one year in the freezer.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

· Turn off the machine and remove the plug from the outlet before cleaning the machine.
- Allow the machine to cool.
- Wash the trays, the drip tray, the drying sheet, and door in warm water with a little dish soap. Do not put them into the dishwasher. Dry all the parts.
- Wipe the interior and exterior of the appliance clean with a moist cloth.
- Note: Never immerse the lid in water or allow it to come into contact with water. This could be dangerous.
