Thank you for choosing our product. We hope you enjoy using this device.
Read the safety instructions and all other instructions carefully before using the device for the first time. Note the warnings on the device and in the operating instructions.
Always keep the operating instructions close to hand. If you sell the device or give it away, please ensure that you also pass on these operating instructions. They are an essential component of the product.

2. Proper use
This is an entertainment electronics device.
The party speaker is used to play audio material which can be played via USB, Bluetooth® or AUX IN. The party speaker can also be used as a karaoke system or announcement amplifier.
Note that no liability will be accepted if the device is not used for its intended purpose:

3. Safety information

WARNING! Risk of injury!
There is a risk of injury to children and persons with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities (for example, partially disabled people or older people with limited physical and mental abilities) or to those without experience and knowledge (such as older children).
- Keep the device and its accessories out of the reach of children.
The device can be used by children of 8 years and older, and by people with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacity, or with a lack of experience and/or knowledge, but only with proper supervision, or if they have been told how to use the device safely, and have understood the risks involved if they use it improperly.
Children must not be allowed to play with the device. - Do not allow children to clean the device or perform maintenance tasks on it unless they are aged 8 years or older and properly supervised.

3.1. Installation location

Risk of electric shock!
There is a risk of electric shock due to live parts.

Do not place containers that are filled with liquid, e.g. vases, on or near the device and its mains cable. Such containers could tip over and the liquid could impair the electrical safety of the device.

Protect the device and all other devices connected to it from dampness, water drops or water spray. To prevent malfunctions, keep the device dust-free, away from sources of heat, and out of direct sunlight.

Do not place any objects on the cables as they may be damaged.

Insufficient air circulation can lead to heat accumulation, resulting in a fire.

Ensure that there is adequate ventilation around the device. The rear panel must be located at minimum 5 cm and either side of the device at least 1 cm away from walls or other objects.

Do not cover the device (with newspapers, covers etc.) to prevent overheating.

Do not place open flames such as lit candles on or near the device.

Do not use the device in potentially explosive atmospheres. This includes petrol stations, fuel storage areas and areas where solvents are processed. This device must also not be used in areas with particle-laden air (for example flour or wood dust).

To prevent the device from falling, only install and operate it and its components on a sturdy, level, vibration-free surface. Some aggressive varnishes can corrode the rubber feet on the device. If necessary, place the device on a suitable underlay.

Keep the device at a distance of at least one metre from sources of high-frequency or magnetic interference (televisions, other loudspeakers, mobile telephones, etc.) to avoid malfunctions.
Do not expose the device to extreme conditions. Avoid:

3.2. Power supply
- Only operate the device from an earthed 100 - 240V 50 / 60 Hz outlet. Contact the local energy supplier if you have any questions about the power supply at the installation location.
The socket must be near the device and easily accessible.
Position the cables so that no one can tread on them or trip over them.
To disconnect the device from the power supply, remove the plug from the outlet. Always hold the plug firmly when unplugging it. To prevent damage, never pull on the cord.
All multimedia devices that are connected to the device must comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive.
- Disconnect the device from the power supply during thunderstorms or when the product will not be used for a prolonged period.
3.3. Ambient temperature
The device can be operated at an ambient temperature of 0^ to +35^ .
- When switched off, the device can be stored at temperatures of between -20^ and +60^ .
Never use the device anywhere that is damp or wet.

DANGER! Risk of electric shock!
Major changes in temperature or fluctuations in humidity can cause moisture to build up within the device due to condensation – this can cause an electrical short circuit.
After transporting the device, wait until it has reached ambient temperature before switching it on.
3.4. If there are defects
Check the device and its accessories for possible damage before each use.
- Do not use the party speaker or mains cable if they are damaged, generate smoke or emit unusual operating noises. In this case, disconnect the power supply immediately.
- Never try to open and/or repair a device component yourself. There is a risk of electric shock.
In the event of a fault, contact our Service Centre.

6. Getting started
6.1. Setting up the device
- Place the party speaker on a sturdy, level surface. Some aggressive varnishes can corrode the rubber feet on the device. If necessary, place the device on a suitable underlay.
6.2. Trolley function
The integrated trolley function makes it easier to transport the party speaker.
Press and hold the locking button and pull the telescopic handle upwards until you hear it engage in the uppermost position.
Using the telescopic handle, you can now pull the party speaker behind you on the integrated rollers.
6.3. Mains operation - connecting the mains cable
Connect the supplied mains cable to the INPUT POWER socket (100 - 240V 50 / 60Hz) on the device.
Plug the mains cable into an easily accessible power outlet (see "3.2. Power supply" on page 39).
6.4. Internal rechargeable battery
As soon as the party speaker is connected to a power outlet, the built-in rechargeable battery begins charging automatically.
When the party speaker is on and connected to a power outlet, you can press the button to see the current charge level of the battery in the device display.
The current charge level is displayed in four levels:

The charging bar corresponding to the charge level flashes during charging (see Fig.). When the battery is fully charged, all four charging bars light up constantly. If only one charging bar is displayed, you should connect the party speaker promptly to a power outlet in order to be able to continue operating the device.
6.5. Switching the device on/off
Press and hold the button for approximately 3 seconds to switch on the party speaker.
ON appears in the device display.
The device starts in the most recently selected operating mode.
Press and hold the button again for approximately 3 seconds to switch the device into standby mode.
OFF appears in the device display.

In standby mode, the battery is charged until it is fully charged. The party speaker will continue to consume a small amount of power.
Unplug the mains plug to switch off the device completely.

The party speaker automatically switches to standby mode if no operation or audio playback occurs within 15 minutes.
Press and hold the button for approximately 3 seconds to switch the device on again from standby mode.
7. Connections
7.1. AUXIN mode
The AUX IN socket allows you to connect external playback devices with a built-in amplifier (such as a CD player or MP3 player) to the party speaker.
Switch the party speaker to standby mode first by pressing the button.
Switch off your external device.
Plug the end of a 3.5mm jack cable (not supplied with the device) into the AUX IN socket on the party speaker.
Connect the other end of the cord to your external device.
- Switch on your external device.
Switch on the party speaker by pressing the button.
Press the SOURCE button several times until you see AUX in the display.
Start audio playback on your external device.
The audio signal from your external device will now be played through the party speaker.
Playback is controlled via the corresponding buttons on the party speaker (see "10.Playback control" on page 50).
7.2. USB mode
Insert the USB memory device into the USB port.
Press the SOURCE button until you see USB in the display.
Audio playback starts automatically.
Playback is controlled via the corresponding buttons on the party speaker (see "10.Playback control" on page 50).

When connecting USB memory devices, observe the following instructions:
- Due to the numerous different file systems and file formats, the connected storage media cannot be guaranteed to function.
- Depending on the size of the data medium, it may take some time for the system to be detected.
- Supported file systems are FAT16 and FAT32. The supported file format is MP3.
- External hard disks are not supported.
7.3. Bluetooth mode
In Bluetooth mode, you can receive audio signals wirelessly from an external Bluetooth-enabled audio output device. Make sure the two devices are not more than 10 metres apart.

Only one Bluetooth device can be paired with the party speaker at a time.
7.3.1. Pairing Bluetooth-enabled audio output device
To pair a Bluetooth-enabled audio output device with the party speaker, proceed as follows:
- Switch on the Bluetooth function on your audio output device.
- Switch the party speaker on. Then press the SOURCE button to select Bluetooth mode. Alternatively, press the × button to enter Bluetooth mode.
BT appears on the display. The party speaker is now in search mode.
Pair both devices to your audio output device.

You will find more information about the Bluetooth function of your audio output device in its operating instructions.
The device name of the MD43988 party sound system will be displayed in the device list on your audio output device as soon as the signal is found.
If you are prompted to enter a password for pairing, enter 0000.
You will hear a signal tone on the party speaker when the two devices are paired with each other.
Now start audio playback on your external device or press the button on the party speaker to start playback.
Playback can be controlled using the corresponding buttons on the party speaker (see "10. Playback control" on page 50) or via the external device.

The party speaker always attempts to automatically connect itself to the last audio output device connected via Bluetooth.
To disconnect an existing Bluetooth connection, press and hold the button in Bluetooth mode.
After disconnection NO BT appears on the display. The party speaker is now in search mode again and you can perform a new device pairing.
8. Connecting a microphone
A microphone can be used in any operating mode.
To connect a microphone (not supplied with the device) to the party speaker, proceed as follows:
If necessary, switch the party speaker to standby mode.
Plug the microphone cable into the MIC IN jack on the party speaker.
Use the MIC VOLUME control to select the desired microphone volume.
Press the MIC ECHO button to activate the echo sound effect for the microphone.
Press the MIC ECHO button again to deactivate the echo sound effect for the microphone.

The audio signal from the microphone can be played back in any operating mode (AUX IN, USB, BT).
9. Connecting a guitar
To connect a guitar (not supplied with the device) to the party speaker, proceed as follows:
If necessary, switch the party speaker to standby mode.
Plug the guitar cable into the GUITAR IN jack on the party speaker.

The audio signal from the guitar can be played back in any operating mode (AUX IN, USB, BT).
The guitar volume is automatically set to the highest level and cannot be changed manually.
10. Playback control
10.1. Setting the volume
- Turn the MASTER Volume control towards + to increase the volume, or towards - to reduce the volume.
10.2.Start/pause playback
Press the button to start playing tracks.
To pause playback, press the button again.
Press this button again to resume playback.
10.3. Track selection, fast rewind/forward
Press the button to go back to the start of the track that is currently being played.
Press the button again to skip to the previous track.
Use the button to skip to the next track.
11. Additional functions and settings
11.1.Bass mode
Press the BASS button to activate the corresponding sound effect mode.
BASS ON appears in the device display.
Press the BASS button again to disable bass mode.
BASS OFF appears in the device display.
11.2. Equalizer
Press the EQ button once or repeatedly to activate one of the preset equalizer settings (POP, BALLAD, FUNK, ROCK, JAZZ, SAMBA).

No other equalizer setting can be activated in bass mode.
11.3. Party light
Press the button once or repeatedly to activate a pre-installed light setting (LED1 to LED7).
In the light settings LED1, LED2, LED3, press and hold the 念 button to select a different light colour for the selected light setting.
To switch off the party light, press the ※ button until OFF appears in the device display.

The LED light is an integral component and users must not attempt to replace it themselves.
11.4. Folder selection for MP3 fi les
MP3 files can be stored on the storage medium in different folders in order to have a better overview.
Press and hold either the or button to change folder on an MP3 data medium.
11.5. Charging an external device via the USB port
Using a suitable USB cable (not supplied with the device), you can charge an external device (e.g. smartphone, fitness tracker etc.) via the party speaker's USB port.
Please note the current output voltage at the USB port: 5V = -1A
11.6. Connecting two party speakers via True Wireless Stereo
The True Wireless Stereo ("TWS") function allows you to connect two party speakers of the same type via Bluetooth® to play your audio files in stereo quality.
To connect the speakers via "TWS", proceed as follows:
Switch on both party speakers.
Put both party speakers in Bluetooth mode. Press the SOURCE button until BT appears in the display.
Press the TWS button on both party speakers at the same time.
PARTY SELECT appears in the display.
In the next step, define which party speaker should function as "HOST" (main speaker) and which should function as "SLAVE" (subordinate speaker).
Press the button to set the party speakers to "HOST" and "SLAVE" respectively.
- Wait a few seconds for the automatic connection of the party speakers to complete.
After successful connection HOST or SLAVE will be shown in the display of the devices.
Now perform the Bluetooth pairing of your audio output device with the "HOST" speaker as described in "7.3.1. Pairing Bluetooth-enabled audio output device" on page 48.
After successful pairing, you can now play back your audio files in stereo quality via the connected party speakers.
12. Remove batteries for disposal

WARNING!
Risk of explosion/chemical burns!
There is a risk of explosion and chemical burns if rechargeable batteries are handled incorrectly.
- Keep the rechargeable batteries out of reach of children.
-
Keep the removed rechargeable batteries away from heat sources such as radiators or open flames such as candles. Risk of explosion!
Never short-circuit the rechargeable batteries. -
Do not take the rechargeable batteries apart or deform them.
Leaked liquids must not come into contact with the skin, eyes or mucous membranes. Do not swallow the liquid under any circumstances.
Always wear appropriate protective gloves when handling leaking rechargeable batteries.
If you nevertheless come into contact with the liquid, rinse the affected areas with plenty of clean water.
■ Consult a doctor immediately if you discover skin changes or feel discomfort.
■ Consult a doctor immediately if rechargeable batteries are swallowed.

DANGER!
Risk of electric shock!
The device contains live parts. There is a risk of electric shock.
- Remove the rechargeable batteries for disposal of the party speaker only.
Before use, check that the rechargeable batteries are fully charged and the mains plug has been removed from the device.
Pull the mains plug from the socket and the device plug from the device.
- Operate the party speaker until the rechargeable batteries are fully discharged to remove any residual current from the device.
- Loosen the 11 screws on the rear of the device using a screwdriver (TX 15) and remove the rear panel.
Loosen the 4 screws on the metal plate above the rechargeable batteries using a Phillips screwdriver (size 2).
- Loosen the plug contacts of the rechargeable batteries and remove the rechargeable batteries from the device.
- Dispose of the rechargeable batteries in an environmentally friendly manner (see "18. Disposal" on page 55).
13. Troubleshooting

14. Cleaning
Always disconnect the device from the mains before cleaning it.
- Only use a dry, soft cloth to clean the device. Do not use chemical solutions or cleaning products because these may damage the device's surface and/or inscriptions.
Make sure that no liquid gets inside the party speaker.
15. Storing the device when not in use
If you do not intend to use the device over a longer period of time, unplug it from the power supply and store in a cool, dry place.
Ensure that the device is protected from dust and extreme temperature variations.

18. Disposal

PACKAGING
Your device has been packaged to protect it from damage in transit. The packaging is made of materials that can be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner.

DEVICE
All old appliances marked with the symbol illustrated must not be disposed of in normal household waste. If you can no longer use your electrical device, dispose of it in accordance with the legal provisions applicable in your area. This involves separating the materials in the device for the purpose of recycling and minimising the environmental impact.
Take old devices to a collection point for electrical scrap or a recycling centre.
