How to install the SDV2950 antenna on a pole?

First assemble the antenna on the ground. Attach the U-bolts to the main bracket, then screw the bracket onto the antenna with the 6 washer screws. Place the wing nuts on the bolts, slide the pole under the clamps and tighten. Connect the coaxial cable to the F connector under the antenna, then secure the pole onto its mount.

What coaxial cable to use with the SDV2950 antenna?

The included cable is a 6-meter RG-59U. For better performance over long distances, use RG-6 or quad-shield RG-6. Do not extend the cable if possible.

Should the power injector be installed indoors or outdoors?

The power injector and power supply are designed for indoor use only. Installation must be sheltered from weather.

How to connect the antenna to a TV with a single antenna input?

Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna to the power injector (connector marked 'TO AMPLIFIER'), then connect the injector to the TV via a short coaxial cable. Plug the power supply into a 110/120 V outlet.

What to do if my TV has separate UHF and VHF inputs?

You need to purchase a UHF/VHF splitter to separate the signals. Connect the output of the power injector to the splitter, then connect each output to the corresponding TV inputs.

How to protect the antenna from lightning?

Follow the grounding requirements of the National Electrical Code (Section 810). Use a lightning surge protector between the antenna and TV, and connect the pole to a ground rod with a conductor of at least 8 AWG.

What are the safety precautions during installation?

Never install near power lines. Work on the ground for assembly, and have at least two people help. Do not install in bad weather. If the antenna touches a power line, do not touch it and call the electric company.

What to do if I receive poor channels after installation?

Check the antenna orientation towards the broadcast towers (use antennaweb.org to locate). Ensure there are no obstructions (trees, buildings). Check the connections and that the power injector is plugged in.

Is the SDV2950 antenna compatible with 4G/5G?

This antenna is designed for VHF/UHF TV reception. It may pick up interference from 4G/5G signals. An LTE filter can be added if needed (not included).

Antenna grounding

If an outside antenna is connected to the receiver, make sure the antenna system is grounded so as to provide protection against voltage surges and built up of static charges.

Section 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA No. 70-1984, provides information with respect to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, size of grounding connectors, location of antenna discharge-unit, connection to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. The installation or dismantling of any antenna near power lines is dangerous. Each year hundreds of people are killed or injured while attempting to install or service antennas. For your safety and proper antenna installation, read and follow all safety precautions.

Outdoor antennas and lead-in conductors from antenna to a building should not cross over open conductors of electric light or power circuits. They should be kept away from all circuits to avoid the possibility of accidental contact.

Each conductor of a lead-in from an outdoor antenna should be connected with an antenna discharge unit. Antenna discharge units (or Lightning Arrestors) should be located outside the building between the point of entrance or the lead-in and the TV, and as near as practical to the entrance of conductors to the building.

Choose an installation site for safety as well as performance.

All electric power lines, cable lines and telephone lines look alike. To be safe, assume ANY overhead line can kill you.

Do not place an antenna where it could potentially fall on to, or blow into a power line. If in doubt call your electric provider. Let them review your site.

Outdoor antennas should be grounded with an approved lighting arresting device. Local codes may apply. Use 8 AWG or larger ground wire.

Height or other restrictions on antennas may apply to your installation depending on your proximity to an airport, or local ordinances.

Take the time to plan your installation procedure. Do all assembly work on the antenna on the ground. Raise the completed antenna after assembly.

Do NOT work on a wet, snowy or windy day or if a thunderstorm is approaching. Do NOT use a metal ladder.

If the antenna assembly starts to fall, get away from it and let it fall. Remember that the antenna mast and cable are all excellent conductors of electrical current.

Do NOT install the antenna by yourself. Be sure that there are two other people available for help.

If any part of the antenna should come in contact with a power line. DON'T TOUCH IT OR TRY TO REMOVE IT YOURSELF. Call your local power company immediately. They will remove it.

Should an electrical accident occur ...DON'T TOUCH THE PERSON IN CONTACT WITH THE POWER LINE, or you too can become electrocuted. Instead, use a DRY board, stick, or rope to push or pull the victim away from the power lines and antenna. Once clear, check the victim. If he has stopped breathing, immediately administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and stay with him. Have someone else call for medical help.

Install wire antennas high enough that they will not be "walked into" by people.

Do not install antenna wire(s) over or under utility lines.

Important installation information

The SDV2950 uses a power injector that sends a low power DC voltage to the antenna to drive the signal amplifier built into the antenna though the RG-6 or RG-59 signal cable.

It is essential for proper operation of this antenna system that the power injector be connected between the antenna and any devices such as splitters, additional amplifiers, matching transformers, networks, etc. SEE DIAGRAM TO LEFT.

Disregarding this important notice may result in damaging the power injector or improper operation / poor performance.

Mounting Antenna

Determining signal strength

Before Installation determine the best location for optimum reception. It is important for the antenna to have an unobstructed path to the transmitter. To determine the transmitter(s) location you can consult the website http://www.antennaweb.org. For best results the antenna should be facing to the transmitter locations as shown at left.

Wall mounting the unit (indoor or outdoor)

Do all the antenna assembly work on the ground. Raise the completed antenna after assembly.

1. Using the L brackets as a guide mark position for the two 2" wood screws. If possible locate a stud to screw into, adjusting the L brackets accordingly.If studs are not available use appropriate wall anchors (not included, available at any hardware store). Screw the wood screws into the wall but leave about 1/2 to allow for the last step.

Mounting Antenna

1. Attach the cable to the F connector on the underside of the unit and slide the weather protection boot over the connection.
2. Hook the top of the L brackets onto the wood screws through the keyholes. Make sure the screws are at the top of the keyhole. At this point tighten the wood screws fully into position and tighten the L bracket screws.

Mast Mounting or Attic Mounting (Mast not included)

Do all the antenna assembly work on the ground. Raise the completed antenna after assembly.

1. Install the two U-bolt s from the rear of the main bracket.
2. Attach the main bracket to the antenna assembly using the 6 - 1/2” washer screws as shown in Figure B above.
3. Attach the U-Bolt clamps with the pointed side facing outward.
4. Place the 4 wing-nuts on the threads of the U-bolts - loosely allowing space for the mast.
5. Slide the top of the mast under the clamps - and fully tighten the wing-nuts. The completed assembly should look like figure C.
6. Attach the cable to the F connector on the underside of the unit and slide weather protection boot over the connection.
7. Attach the mast to the mast mount and fasten hardware for the mast (not included).

Connecting to your TV

As previously noted the power injector must be placed in-line between the antenna and before any splitter or additional devices.

1. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna to the F connector labeled "TO AMPLIFIER" on the power injector.
2. Connect the short lead from the power injector to the antenna input on your TV.
3. Connect the power supply lead to the power injector, then plug the power supply into a 110/120 Volt AC receptacle.

Alternate connections

1. If your TV has separate inputs for UHF and VHF you will need to purchase a signal splitter that will separate the two different signals.
2. If your TV has only two screw type antenna inputs you will need to purchase a 75 Ohm to 300 Ohm transformer.

A note about coaxial cable - Your SDV2950 includes a 20 foot roll of RG-59 coaxial cable. If you should find that this is not adequate for your needs we recommend for best possible signal integrity that you do not extend this cable. A better choice is to replace the cable with either RG-6 or RG-6 Quad Shield cable. Both of these cables are designed for minimal signal loss over longer cable runs. This will ensure the best possible picture and overall performance.
