USER MANUAL Premium 5511 Solis

Please read through this user manual thoroughly before using your Solis Premium Kettle so that you become famil- iar with your appliance and can use it safely. We thorough- ly recommend that you keep these instructions and, if you pass the appliance on, that you also hand these instructions to the new owner. For your own safety, please observe the following safety measures when using elec trical appliances:

1. To avoid electric shock, neither the appliance base nor the

power cord and plug resp. the electrical pins in the bottom of the jug and the appliance base must come into contact with water or any other liquids. Water can enter the housing and damage the appliance! Should the appliance base resp. the power cord or plug resp. the electrical pins in the bottom of the jug and the appliance base come into contact with liquids, use dry rubber gloves to immediately pull the power plug from the power socket.

2. The kettle itself must not be submerged in water or other liq-

uids and has to be completely dry on the outside and bottom when being placed on the appliance base.

3. Do not operate or unplug the appliance with wet or moist

4. Before using the appliance, check that the voltage stated on

the type plate matches your mains voltage.

5. Place the appliance while in function on a level, stable, clean

and dry surface, like a table or work top. A minimum distance of 20 cm to walls, curtains or heat resp. steam sensitive objects has to be kept at all times.

6. Never use the electric kettle near the edge of a table. Make

sure it is kept out of the reach of children and pets to prevent it from being pulled down and damaged with the escaping boiling water causing scaldings.

SOLIS Premium Kettle E_2015 16.06.16 11:04 Seite 547. Do not leave the power cable hanging over table edges so that it can be pulled. Make sure that it does not come into contact with hot surfaces, such as hotplates or a radiator, or that it comes into contact with the appliance. Fully unwind the cord before use.

8. Keep the appliance away from hot gas, hot ovens and other

heat-emitting appliances or heat sources. Never use the appli- ance on a hot or wet surface. Never place the appliance near moisture, heat and naked flames. Keep the appliance away from moving parts or appliances.

9. Never carry the appliance by the power cable and do not place

it on the power cable.

10. We recommend that you do not use an extension cable with

this appliance. Do not place the appliance directly underneath a power socket.

11. Unplug the appliance when it is not in use or unattended and

before cleaning. We recommend the use of a residual current device (RCD safety switch) to ensure additional protection during the use of electrical appliances. It is advisable to use a safety switch with a rated residual operating current of 30 mA maximum. For professional advice consult an electrician.

12. Do not make any adjustments to the appliance, cable, plug or

13. Do not leave the electric kettle unattended when in use.

Incorrect use may cause injury!

14. Never take hold of an appliance that has fallen into water.

Always take the plug out of the power socket before remov- ing the appliance from the water. Do not use the appliance again until you have had it's ability to function safely checked by Solis or a Solis approved service centre.

15. Never place the electric kettle in a place where it could fall

into water (e.g. next to a sink).

SOLIS Premium Kettle E_2015 16.06.16 11:04 Seite 5516. Place the appliance so that it is never exposed to direct sun- light.

17. Never put sharp or pointed objects and tools into the appli-

ance openings. The appliance may become damaged – dan- ger of electric shock!

18. Do not shake or relocate the appliance while it is in operation.

19. Use the Solis Premium Kettle only to heat water. It is not suit-

able for boiling any other liquids.

20. The jug always has to be removed from the appliance base to

be filled with water. Dry the jug outside and bottom before placing it back on the appliance base.

21. Only switch the appliance on when there is enough water in

the kettle (note the lowest marking!), otherwise the appliance might be damaged.

22. Should there be too little water in the jug or if the water has

evaporated, the overheat protection is triggered and the appliance switches off. In this case, pull the power plug and let the appliance cool down completely (approx. 15 minutes) before refilling the jug with cold water. Should you refill the water too early, it might splash up, as the heating element is still hot.

23. Use the appliance only as described in this manual. Never

switch the appliance on with an empty kettle. Improper use can cause personal injury. Only fill the jug with cold water and make sure never to exceed the MAX marking.

24. Should there be too much water in the jug, the hot water

might splash out during cooking. Therefore, do not exceed the MAX marking.

25. Do not touch the metal parts of the electric kettle (jug out-

side, lid) during and shortly after use. They are hot! Only touch the electric kettle by its handle!

26. Only use with the provided accessories, or accessories recom-

mended by Solis, incorrect accessories can lead to damage of the appliance.

30. In order to avoid electric shock, do not use the appliance if the

cable or plug are damaged or the appliance is otherwise faulty, dropped or damaged. Never attempt repairs yourself, but take your appliance to Solis or a Solis approved service centre in order to get it inspected or mechanically and electri- cally repaired.

31. People with limited physical, sensorial or mental capabilities as

well as unknowing or inexperienced people (incl. children) must not use the electric kettle except when supervised or thoroughly instructed on how to use the appliance by a per- son responsible for their safety. 30. Children must not clean the appliance except when super-

vised by a grown-up person responsible for their safety.

31. Children must not be allowed to play with the electric kettle.

Keep the packaging material incl. plastic bags out of reach of children. Suffocation hazard!

32. Keep the appliance away from children during use – the water

in the kettle is hot! As the kettle itself gets warm, you should only touch it by the handle when lifting it.

36. The lid has to be correctly closed and locked during cooking,

as the appliance will not switch off automatically after cook- ing otherwise. Hot water might splash out of the jug.

ing boiling. Always switch the electric kettle off with the ON/OFF toggle switch before removing the jug resp. check that the ON/OFF toggle switch is set to the off position (posi- tion marked by black dot) and that the interior lighting has gone out before removing the jug.

38. Avoid contact with the hot steam that escapes from appliance

openings during and even after boiling. Always pour hot water through the spout carefully and slowly to prevent the hot water from splashing and scalding somebody. Do not tilt the jug too strongly when pouring it out.

39. For safety reasons, we recommend pouring hot water out

through the spout with the lid closed.

40. Be especially careful when lifting or carrying the kettle filled

41. Do not press the lid latch button during or shortly after cook-

ing to open the lid. Hot water might splash out of the jug. If you want to open the lid, f.e. to refill cold water, hot water remaining in the jug should be poured out through the spout with the lid closed first.

42. Caution: The surface of the heating element (in the bottom

of the jug) will stay very hot for some time even after switch- ing off! The same applies to the water remaining in the jug. Therefore, keep the appliance and the power cord away from children even after cooking.

43. Never start the appliance using a remote or timer.

44. Only use the included jug and lid with this appliance. Do not

use the appliance on another appliance base and never place the jug on a hot stove top. Improper accessories can cause electric shock, fire or personal damage and damage the appli- ance itself!

Before first use, the jug has to be rinsed. Proceed as follows:

  • Place the appliance on a dry, stable and even work surface out of the reach of children, near a power outlet. Unwind the power cord from the appliance base and place it in such a way that the appliance can not be yanked down by it.
  • Take the jug off the appliance base.
  • Open the lid of the jug by briefly pushing the lid latch inwards.
  • Fill the jug with cold tap water to the MAX marking in the level indicator. Caution: The MAX marking in the jug must never be exceeded, otherwise hot water might squirt out! The maximum capacity is 1,5 litres. Similarly, the lowest marking (0,2 litres) must never be fallen short of, otherwise the overheat pro- tection is triggered.
  • Place the filled jug on the appliance base and close the lid. Push the black plas- tic surround instead of the latch button resp. the metal part to lock the lid.
  • Connect the power plug to a suitable power outlet.
  • Press the ON/OFF toggle switch (push dash downwards); the interior illumination switches on during cooking.
  • Wait for the water to come to a boil. The end of the cooking process is indicated by the interior illumination going out. Additionally, the ON/OFF toggle switch jumps back to the OFF position (point). Then, carefully pour the water out through the spout with the lid closed.
  • Repeat the process three times to remove all potential residues.

1. Place the appliance on a dry, stable and even work surface out of the reach of

children, near a power outlet. Unwind the power cord from the appliance base and place it in such a way that the appliance can not be yanked down by it.

2. Take the jug off the appliance base, push the lid latch button and the lid opens.

3. Fill the jug with cold tap water (please note the MAX marking in the jug, fill a

maximum of 1,5 liters) and close the lid by pushing it down at the black plastic surround to lock it into place. Caution: The lid has to be closed at all times dur- ing cooking.

4. If necessary, dry the outside and bottom of the kettle. Place the kettle on the dry

7. Once the water is at a boil, the appliance automatically switches off, the toggle

switch jumps back and the interior illumination goes out.

8. Carefully remove the jug from the appliance base and slowly pour the hot water

into a prepared jug, using the spout. For safety reasons, we recommend always pouring boiling water through the spout without opening the lid. Caution: Always be careful not to burn or scald yourself with the hot steam com- ing out of the spout!

9. If you do not need any more hot water, pull the power plug, pour the remain-

ing water out of the kettle and let the appliance cool down (this prevents fast cal- cification). Notes:

  • Do not tilt the filled jug too strongly, especially not backwards, in the direction of the handle. Never turn the appliance upside down, not even when the lid is closed. Water might escape even when the lid is closed!
  • Always make sure that the lid is closed and locked before switching the appliance on.
  • The jug bottom covering the heating element is made from high-quality stain- less steel. White residues potentially forming there are limestone deposits that should be removed as described in the section „Descaling the jug“ on page 66. SOLIS Premium Kettle E_2015 16.06.16 11:05 Seite 6364 ■ OVERHEAT PROTECTION
  • Should the appliance overheat, f.e. if there is no or too little water in the kettle or if it has already evaporated, the appliance automatically switches off. In this case, pull the plug and let the appliance cool down completely for approx. 15 min- utes before using it again.

1. Never exceed the MAX marking when filling the kettle as this might cause the

water to splash out of the kettle during boiling and cause scalding resp. electric shock!

2. Filled to the MAX marking, the kettle holds 1,5 litres of water.

3. Never fill the jug with too little water. The lowest marking (200 ml) has to be

reached every time, otherwise the overheat protection is triggered and the appli- ance switches off.

4. Always check if the lid is correctly closed and locked before plugging the power

plug into the power outlet. Close the lid by pushing the black plastic surround. The lid can not be closed by pushing the lid latch button or the metal part on the lid.

5. Dry the kettle outside as well as the kettle bottom and the appliance base

before plugging in the plug.

6. During heating, you can stop the heating process at any time by pressing the

ON/OFF toggle switch.

7. Should there be too little water in the jug or should the water have evaporated,

triggering the overheat protection, pull the power plug and let the appliance cool down completely for approx. 15 minutes before refilling the jug with cold water.

8. Do not press the lid latch button during or shortly after cooking to open the lid,

as hot water might splash out of the jug. If you want to open the lid, f.e. to refill cold water, the hot water remaining in the jug should be poured out through the spout first, with the lid closed.

9. Because steam has to be allowed to escape from the jug during boiling, the spout

is always open. Therefore, water might escape when the full jug is tipped over or placed on its side. Consequently, the jug filled with water has to be in an upright position at all times. SOLIS Premium Kettle E_2015 16.06.16 11:05 Seite 6465

1. Before cleaning, pull the plug and let the electric kettle cool down completely.

2. Never submerge the jug or the appliance base in water or any other liquids and

do not spray water or any other liquids onto the appliance parts. Risk of electric shock!

3. Clean the outside of the jug, the lid on both the inside and the outside and the

appliance base with a just slightly wet cloth and dry the inside of the jug. Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents or solvents and no scratching materials to clean the appliance, this might damage the surfaces. Tip: Light limestone deposits can be often removed by simply wiping the inside of the jug.

■ REMOVING AND CLEANING THE LIMESTONE FILTER

  • The limestone filter, which is positioned directly behind the spout in the jug, has to be removed and cleaned regularly.
  • Always wait for the appliance to cool down completely and check if the power plug is pulled.
  • Pull the filter up and out of the guide rail.
  • Clean the limestone filter under run- ning, warm water with a towel or a soft washing-up brush to free the filter from limestone deposits.
  • Place the filter back in the guide rail and push it all the way down so that it firmly locks into place. Caution: If the filter is not pushed down all the way, the lid of the jug can not be fully closed. Note:
  • The limestone filter is a consumable item and might be worn out after prolonged use. You can get a replacement from good specialist stores or from Solis of Switzerland Ltd, Telephone: 0848 804 884, Telefax: 0848 804 890, email: info@solis-onlineshop.ch, www.solis-onlineshop.ch (shipping only within Switzer- land). SOLIS Premium Kettle E_2015 16.06.16 11:05 Seite 6566
  • After prolonged use or through hard water, lime deposits can form in the kettle and reduce operating performance and impair the water taste.
  • Solis recommends regularly (depending on water hardness, however at least once a month) descaling your kettle with a mixture of SOLIPOL

forte and water. Please use only SOLIPOL

forte (art.-no. 703.01) for descaling the appliance. Damages caused by the use of unsuitable descaling agent are not covered by warranty.

  • Pour 500 ml of cold water into the water jug and switch the appliance on. Bring the water to the boil. Take the water jug off the base, carefully open the lid (Caution, hot steam!) and pour 1’000 ml SOLIPOL

forte into the water jug so that the descaling solution reaches the MAX marking. Please ensure that the water jug is placed on a non- sensitive resp. shielded worktop.

  • Let the descaling solution sit for approx. 30 minutes. Do not boil!
  • Slowly pour the descaling solution out through the spout to descale that area as well. Remove possibly remaining limestone deposits on the spout or limestone filter with a towel soaked in a solution of SOLIPOL
  • After emptying out the descaling solution, you have to fill the kettle with fresh, cold tap water to the MAX marking, bring it to the boil and pour the water out again each time to remove all remains of the descaling solution. Do this three times and under all circumstances.
  • When not needed, the water kettle should be disconnected from the power, be allowed to cool down completely and then dried.
