BCBLV36 blower vacs have been designed for clearing dry leaves from hard surfaces such as decks and dry lawns. These appliances are intended for consumer and outdoor use only. General appliance safety warnings Warning! When using mains powered/cordless appliances, basic safety precautions, including the following, should always be followed to reduce the risk of re, electric shock, personal injury and material damage. u Read all of this manual carefully before using the appliance, be familiar with the controls and the proper use of the appliance. u The intended use is described in this manual. The use of any accessory or attachment or the performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recommended in this instruction manual may present a risk of personal injury. The term "appliance" in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) appliance or battery operated (cordless) appliance. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. Using your appliance u Always take care when using the appliance. u Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. u Only use the appliance in daylight or good articial light. u Do not operate your appliance in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of ammable liquids, gases or dust. u Never allow children or people unfamiliar with the instructions to use the appliance, local regulations may restrict the age of the operator. u Do not allow children or animals to come near the work area or touch the appliance supply cord.5 ENGLISH (Original instructions) u Keep children, bystanders and animals away while operating an appliance. Distractions can cause you to lose control. u The appliance is not to be used as a toy. u Do not immerse the appliance in water. u Do not open body casing. There are no userserviceable parts inside. Personal safety u Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating an appliance. Do not use an appliance while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating an appliance may result in serious personal injury. u Where required, use personal protective equipment. Protective equipment such as eye protection, dust mask, nonskid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries. u Prevent unintentional starting. Make sure that the switch is in the off- position before connecting to a power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the appliance. Carrying appliances with your nger on the switch or energising appliances that have the switch on invites accidents. u Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the appliance in unexpected situations. u Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. Appliance use and care u Before use, check the appliance for damaged or defective parts. Check for breakage of parts, damage to switches and any other conditions that may affect its operation. u Do not use the appliance if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any appliance that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. u Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the appliance before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing appliances. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the appliance accidentally. u Where applicable, keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. u Do not use the appliance if any part is damaged or defective. u Have any damaged or defective parts repaired or replaced by an authorised repair agent. u Never attempt to remove or replace any parts other than those specied in this manual.6 ENGLISH (Original instructions) Electrical safety u Appliance plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) appliance. Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. u Do not expose appliance to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a appliance will increase the risk of electric shock. u Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the appliance. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. u When operating an appliance outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. u If operating an appliance in a damp location is unavoidable, use a Residual Current Device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock. After Use u When not in use, the appliance should be stored in a dry, well ventilated place out of the reach of children. u Children should not have access to stored appliances. u When the appliance is stored or transported in a vehicle it should be placed in the boot or restrained to prevent movement following sudden changes in speed or direction. Service u Have your appliance serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the appliance is maintained. Additional Safety instructions for blow vacs The intended use is described in this manual. The use of any accessory or attachment or performance of any operation with this appliance other than those recommended in this instruction manual can present a risk of personal injury and/or damage to property. u To protect your feet and legs while operating the appliance, always wear heavy duty footwear and long trousers. u Always switch off your product, allow the fan to stop and remove the battery from the appliance when: u The supply cable has become damaged or entangled. u You leave your product unattended. u Checking, adjusting, cleaning or working on your product. u If the appliance starts to vibrate abnormally. u Do not place the inlet or outlet of the sweeper near eyes or ears when operating. Never blow debris in the direction of bystanders. u Do not use in the rain or leave outdoors while it is raining. u Do not cross gravel paths or roads whilst your product is switched on during blow mode. Walk, never run.7 ENGLISH (Original instructions) u Do not place your unit down on gravel while it is switched on. u Always be sure of your footing, particularly on slopes. Do not overreach and keep your balance at all times. u Do not place any objects into the openings. Never use if the openings are blocked - keep free of hair, lint, dust and anything that may reduce the airow. Warning! Always use your product in the manner outlined in this manual. Your product is designed to be used in an upright mode and if it is used in any other way it may result in injury. Never run your product whilst lying on it’s side or upside down. u The operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property. u Do not carry the appliance by the cable. u Always direct the cable to the rear away from the appliance. Warning! If a cord becomes damaged during use, disconnect the supply cord from the mains supply immediately. Do not touch the supply cord before disconnecting the supply. u Do not use solvents or cleaning uids to clean your product. Use a blunt scraper to remove grass and dirt. u Replacement fans are available from a BLACK+DECKER service agent. Use on BLACK+DECKER recommended spare parts and accessories. u Keep all nuts bolts and screws tight to make sure that the appliance is in a safe working condition. Safety of others u This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. u Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Residual risks Additional residual risks may arise when using the tool which may not be included in the enclosed safety warnings. These risks can arise from misuse, prolonged use etc. Even with the application of the relevant safety regulations and the implementation of safety devices, certain residual risks can not be avoided. These include: u Injuries caused by touching any rotating/moving parts. u Injuries caused when changing any parts, blades or accessories. u Injuries caused by prolonged use of a tool. When using any tool for prolonged periods ensure you take regular breaks. u Impairment of hearing.8 ENGLISH (Original instructions)u Do not expose the battery to heat.u Do not store in locations where the temperature may exceed 40 °C. u Charge only at ambient temperatures between 10 °C and 40 °C. u Charge only using the charger pro- vided with the applaince/tool. Using the wrong charger could result in an electric shock or overheating of the battery. u When disposing of batteries, follow the instructions given in the section "Protecting the environment". u Do not damage/deform the battery pack either by puncture or impact, as this may create a risk of injury and re. Do not charge damaged batteries. u Under extreme conditions, battery leakage may occur. When you notice liquid on the batteries Carefully wipe the liquid off using a cloth. Avoid skin contact. u In case of skin or eye contact, follow the instrucitons below. Warning! The battery uid may cause personal injury or damage to property. In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with water. If redness, pain or irritation occurs seek medical attention. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with clean water and seek medical attention.
Do not attempt to charge damaged batteries. Chargers Your charger has been desinged for a specic voltage. u Health hazards caused by breathing dust developed when using your tool (example:- working with wood, especially oak, beech and MDF.) Labels on Appliance The following pictograms, along with the date code, are shown on the tool: Warning! Read the manual prior to operation. Warning! To reduce the risk of injury, the user must wear ear and eye protection. Do not expose the tool to rain or high humidity or leave outdoors while it is raining. Switch the tool off. Before performing any maintenance on the tool, remove the battery from the tool. Keep people and animals at least 6 m away from the work area. Keep bystanders away. Directive 2000/14/EC guaranteed sound power. Additional safety instructions for batteries and chargers Batteries u Never attempt to open for any reason.u Do not expose the battery to water.

Never attempt to replace the charger unit with a regular mains plug. u Use your BLACK+DECKER charger only to charge the battery in the ap- plaince/tool with which it was supplied. Other batteries could burst, causing personal injury and damage. u Never attempt to charge non-recharge- able batteries. u If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or an authorised BLACK+DECKER Service Centre in order to avoid a hazard. u Do not expose the charger to water.u Do not open the charger.u Do not probe the charger.u The appliance/tool/battery must be placed in a well ventilated area when charging.
The charger is intended for indoor use only. Read the instruction manual before use. Electrical safety Your charger is double insulated; therefore no earth wire is required. Always check that the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate. Warning! Before assembly, make sure that the appliance is switched off and the battery is removed. Blow and vac tube assembly (g. A) The blow and vac tube (3 and 4) must be assembled before use. u Align the latches on the side of the blow and vac tubes.u Push the blow and vac tubes tube rmly into each other until the latches click into place.u Push the assembled blow and vac tubes into the opening on the blowe vac (4a) as shown in gure Eu Secure with the screws (11) provided.Note! The tubes should not be separated once assembled. Fitting the stabilising wheels (g. A) The stabilising wheels slide onto the end of the lower blow and vac tube (3) and are secured with the screw (11) provided. As shown in gure E. Charging the battery (g. B) The battery needs to be charged before rst use and whenev-er it fails to produce sufcient power on jobs that were easily done before. The battery may become warm while charging; this is normal and does not indicate a problem.Warning! Do not charge the battery at ambient temperatures below 10 °C or above 40 °C. Recommended charging tem-perature: approx. 24 °C.Note: The charger will not charge a battery if the cell temperature is below approximately 0 °C or above 40 °C.The battery should be left in the charger and the charger will begin to charge automatically when the cell tempera-ture warms up or cools down.10 ENGLISH (Original instructions) Fitting the collection bag (g. F, G) u t the handle of the collection bag (6a) over the port ensuring the latch clicks into place on the port rim (6b) u The collection bag (6) can be secured to the appliance with the strap (6c) as shown in gure G. Vacuum mode (g. H, I, J) u Switch the function selector (7) to vacuum mode, as shown in gure H. u Position the vacuum tube slightly above the debris/leaves. Switch on the appliance by pushing the On/Off switch (1) upwards and use a sweeping motion; the debris/leaves will be sucked up the tube, and thrown into the collection bag (6). u To empty the collection bag (6), detatch it from the unit by pressing the release lever (6d) and removing it from the port. Unzip the rear end and proceed to empty its contents as shown in figure J. Blow mode (g. K) u Switch the function selector (7) to blow mode, as shown in gure K. u Hold the blow tube approximately 180 mm above the ground, switch on the appliance and using a sweeping motion from side to side, advance slowly keeping the accumulated debris/leaves in front of you (fig.K). Maintenance Your BLACK+DECKER appliance has been designed to oper- ate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper appli- ance care and regular cleaning. u Switch off and unplug the appliance/tool. u Or switch off and remove the battery from the appliance/ tool if the appliance/tool has a separate battery pack. u Or run the battery down completely if it is integral and then switch off. u Unplug the charger before cleaning it. Your charger does not require any maintenance apart from regular cleaning. u Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool/appliance and charger using a soft brush or dry cloth. u Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner. u Keep the appliance clean and dry. Protecting the environment
Separate collection. Products and batteries marked with this symbol must not be disposed of with normal household waste. Products and batteries contain materials that can be recovered or recycled reducing the demand for raw materials. Please recycle electrical products and batteries according to local provisions. u To charge the battery (8), insert it into the charger (9). The battery will only t into the charger in one way. Do not force. Be sure that the battery is fully seated in the charger. u Plug in the charger and switch on at the mains. The charging indicator (9a) will ash continuously (slowly). The charge is complete when the charging indicator (9a) lights continuously. The charger and the battery can be left connected indenitely with the LED illuminated. The LED will change to ashing green (charging) state as the charger occasionally tops off the battery charge. The charging indica- tor (9a) will be lit as long as the battery is connected to the plugged-in charger. u Charge discharged batteries within 1 week. Battery life will be greatly diminished if stored in a discharged state. Leaving the battery in the charger The charger and battery pack can be left connected with the LED glowing indenitely. The charger will keep the battery pack fresh and fully charged. Charger diagnostics If the charger detects a weak or damaged battery, the charg- ing indicator (9a) will ash at a fast rate. Proceed as follows: u Re-insert the battery (8). u If the charging indicators continues ashing at a fast rate, use a different battery to determine if the charging process works properly. u If the replaced battery charges correctly, the original battery is defective and should be returned to a service centre for recycling. u If the new battery gives the same indication as the original battery, take the charger to be tested at an authorised services centre. Note: It may take as long as 30 minutes to determine that the battery is defective. If the battery is too hot or too cold, the LED will alternately blink, fast and slow, one ash at each speed and repeat. Battery state of charge indicator (g. C) The battery includes a state of charge indicator to quickly determine the extent of battery life as shown in gure B. By pressing the state of charge button (8a) you can easily view the charge remaining in the battery as illustrated in gure B. Fitting and removing the battery (g. D, E) u To t the battery (8), line it up with the receptacle on the tool.
