ABOUT BLOOD PRESSURE

What is blood pressure? Blood pressure is the force exerted by blood against the walls of the arteries. The Systolic pressure occurs when the heart contracts. The Diastolic pressure occurs when the heart expands and refills. Blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg). One's natural blood pressure is represented by the fundamental pressure, which is measured first thing in the morning while one is still at rest and before eating. What is hypertension and how is it controlled? Hypertension, an abnormal high arterial blood pressure, if left unattended, can cause many health problems including a stroke and a heart attack. Hypertension can be controlled by altering your lifestyle, avoiding stress and with medication under a doctor's supervision. To prevent hypertension or keep it under control: Do not smoke, exercise regularly, reduce salt and fat intake, have regular physical checkups and maintain a proper weight and control this.6 7 Blood pressure measured at a clinic or doctor's office may cause apprehension and produce an elevated reading, 25 to 30 mmHg higher than that measured at home, Home measurement reduces the effects of outside influences on the blood pressure readings, supplements the doctor's readings and provides a more accurate, complete blood pressure history. WHO blood pressure classification Standards for assessment of high blood pressure, without regard to age, established by the World Health Organization (WHO), and shown in chart below. have been Reference Material: Journal of Hypertension 1999, Vol 17 No.2 Grade 3 hypertension (severe) Grade 2 hypertension (moderate) Grade 1 hypertension (mild) High-normal Normal Optimal mmHg

Systolic blood pressure mmHg Blood pressure variations An individual's blood pressure varies greatly on a daily and seasonal basis. It may vary by 30 to 50 mmHg due to various conditions during the day. In hypertensive individuals, variations are even more pronounced. Normally, the blood pressure rises while at work or play and falls to its lowest levels during the sleep. So, do not be overly concerned by the results of one measurement. Take measurements at the same time every day using the procedure described in this manual, and know your normal blood pressure. Many readings give a more comprehensive blood pressure history. Be sure to note the date and time when recording your blood pressure. Consult your doctor to interpret your blood pressure data.

PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USE

1. If you are taking medication, first consult with your doctor to determine

the most appropriate time to measure your blood pressure. NEVER change a prescribed medication without first consulting with your doctor.

2. For people with an irregular -, or unstable peripheral circulation problems

due to diabetes, liver disease, hardening of the arteries, etc., there may be fluctuation in blood pressure values measured at the upper arm versus at the wrist.

frequency range Interference may occur in the vicinity of equipment marked with the following symbol: 80MHz to 800MHz NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the higher frequency range applies. NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people. a The ISM (industrial, scientific and medical) bands between 0,15 MHz and 80 MHz are 6,765 MHz to 6,795 MHz; 13,553 MHz to 13,567 MHz; 26,957 MHz to 27,283 MHz; and 40,66 MHz to 40,70 MHz. The amateur radio bands between 0,15 MHz and 80 MHz are 1,8 MHz to 2,0 MHz, 3,5 MHz to 4,0 MHz, 5,3 MHz to 5,4 MHz, 7 MHz to 7,3 MHz, 10,1 MHz to 10,15 MHz, 14 MHz to 14,2 MHz, 18,07 MHz to 18,17 MHZ, 21,0 MHz to 21,4 MHz, 24,89 MHz to 24,99 MHz, 28,0 MHz to 29,7 MHz and 50,0 MHz to 54,0 MHz.b The compliance levels in the ISM frequency bands between 150 kHz and 80 MHz and in the frequency range 80 MHz to 2,7 GHz are intended to decrease the likelihood that mobile/portable communications equipment could cause interference if it is inadvertently brought into patient areas. For this reason, an additional factor of 10/3 has been incorporated into the formulae used in calculating the recommended separation distance for transmitters in these frequency ranges. Recommended separation distances between portable and mobile RF communications equipment and the BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor Model c Field strengths from fixed transmitters, such as base stations for radio (cellular/cordless) telephones and land mobile radios, amateur radio, AM and FM radio broadcast and TV broadcast cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the electromagnetic environment due to fixed RF transmitters, an electromagnetic site survey should be considered. If the measured field strength in the location in which the Model BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor is used exceeds the applicable RF compliance level above, the Model BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor should be observed to verify normal operation. If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be necessary, such as re-orienting or relocating the Model BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor. d Over the frequency range 150 kHz to 80 MHz, field strengths should be less than 3 V/m.

The BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment in which radiated RF disturbances are controlled. The customer or the user of the Model BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile RF communications equipment (transmitters) and the Model BPM220 Series Electronic Blood Pressure Monitor as recommended below, according to the maximum output power of the communications equipment. Model

Rated maximum output of transmitter

Separation distance according to frequency of transmitter

150 kHz to 80 MHz 80 MHz to 800 MHz 800 MHz to 2.7 GHz

For transmitters rated at a maximum output power not listed above the recommended separation distance d in metres (m) can be estimated using the equation applicable to the frequency of the transmitter, where P is the maximum output power rating of the transmitter in watts (W) according to the transmitter manufacturer. NOTE 1 At 80 MHz and 800 MHz, the separation distance for the higher frequency range applies. NOTE 2 These guidelines may not apply in all situations. Electromagnetic propagation is affected by absorption and reflection from structures, objects and people. Regarding EMC Statement a) a statement to the effect that this equipment needs to be installed and put into service in accordance with the information provided in the ACCOMPANYING DOCUMENTS; and b) a statement to the effect that wireless communications equipment such as wireless home network devices, mobile phones, cordless telephones and their base stations, walkie talkies can affect this equipment and should be kept at least a distanced away from the equipment. The distanced is calculated by the MANUFACTURER from the 800 MHZ to 2,5 GHz column of Table 5 or Table 6 of IEC 60601-1-2:2007, as appropriate.
