How to set up the RE190 extender?

You can set up the RE190 via the TP-Link Tether app (recommended) or via a web browser by connecting to the extender's WiFi network (e.g., TP-Link_Extender) and opening http://tplinkrepeater.net.

Why can't I access the configuration page?

Make sure your computer is connected to the extender's WiFi network (or via Ethernet cable if available) and that IP address acquisition is automatic. Try the IP address 192.168.0.254 or reset the extender.

How to reset the RE190 extender?

Press and hold the RESET button (located on the side) for about 5 seconds until all LEDs briefly turn off, then release. The extender will restart with factory settings.

What is the difference between extender mode and access point mode?

In extender mode, the device extends the existing WiFi signal. In access point mode, it connects to the router via an Ethernet cable and creates a new WiFi network. The RE190 supports both modes.

Can I use the Ethernet port to connect a wired device?

Yes, the Ethernet port allows you to connect a device without WiFi (TV, console, PC) to the network. Wirelessly connect the extender to the router, then connect your device via Ethernet cable.

Where to place the extender for best coverage?

Ideally, plug the extender halfway between your router and the area to cover. Use the signal LED to find the best location: it should be green or orange, not red.

Does the extender support 5 GHz WiFi?

No, the RE190 model works only on the 2.4 GHz band. For dual-band coverage, consider an upgraded model.

How to secure my extended network?

During setup, set a strong WiFi password. The extender uses the same encryption as your router (WPA/WPA2). You can also change the SSID and password via the web interface.

Are all LEDs lit in normal operation?

The Power LED should be solid. The Signal LED indicates quality: green (good), orange (fair), red (weak). The Ethernet LED lights up when a cable is connected.

What to do if the extender fails to connect to the router?

Check that the router is on and the WiFi password is correct. Try moving the extender closer to the router during setup. If necessary, reset the extender and start over.

Set up your extender via one of the methods.

Method 1: Via TP-Link Tether App

Get the up-to-date Tether app, and follow the app instructions to complete the setup.

Method 2: Via a Web Browser

1 Plug the extender into an electrical outlet near your router and press the power button if it has one.

2 Connect your computer to the extender.

Via Wireless

Disconnect your Ethernet connection from your computer and connect to the extender's network (e.g. TP-Link_Extender or TP-Link_Extender_XXXX).

Via Ethernet Cable (If the extender has an Ethernet port)

Disable the Wi-Fi on your computer. Connect your computer to the extender via an Ethernet cable.

3 Launch a web browser and enter http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 in the address bar. Create a password to log in.

4 Follow the instructions on the web page to complete the initial configuration.

2 Relocate

To achieve better signal quality, plug in the extender halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi dead zone.

Connect your device to the extender using the extended SSID and Wi-Fi password that you've set during the configuration. The default Wi-Fi password is the same as your host network.

Entertainment Adapter

If your extender has an Ethernet port, it can be used as a wireless adapter to connect any Ethernet-only device such as a Blu-ray player, game console, DVR, or smart TV to your Wi-Fi network.

First, connect the extender to your router, then connect your Ethernet-only device to the extender via an Ethernet cable.

Q1 Why can't I see the login page after entering http://tplinkrepeater.net in the browser?

A1: Make sure your computer is connected to the extender either via the extended SSID or via an Ethernet cable (if the extender has an Ethernet port).

A2: Make sure your computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically.

A3: Use the IP address to access the extender. The default IP is 192.168.0.254. If the extender is connected to the router, you should go to your router's DHCP client list to obtain the extender's current IP address.

A4: Reset the extender and connect to its wireless network, enter http://tplinkrepeater.net or http://192.168.0.254 in a web browser and press Enter.

Q2 How do I reset the extender?

A: With the extender powered on, press the RESET button until the LEDs turn on momentarily, then release the button.
