Important safety instructions
- Before the appliance is used, the main
body as well as any attachments should be checked thoroughly for any defects. If the appliance, for instance, has been dropped onto a hard surface, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.
-
Never use the vacuum cleaner to pick up - sharp or pointed objects such as glass splinters,
-
hot ashes, cigarette stubs or chemical matter,
-
stone dust, plaster, cement or any similar fine dust particles,
-
foam, water or other liquids.
-
Always check the dust container for any signs of damage before connecting the vacuum cleaner to the power supply. Do not operate it, if there is no dust container fitted or if it is damaged.
-
Do not lift or carry the vacuum cleaner by the dust-container handle.
The vacuum cleaner must not be used on persons or animals. A considerable risk exists especially where ears and eyes are concerned. Keep the nozzle away from the head at all times.
The power cord should be regularly examined for any signs of damage. In the event of such damage being found, the appliance must no longer be used.
Always remove the plug from the wall socket
-
after use,
-
in case of any malfunction, and
-
before cleaning the appliance.
-
When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.
Children are not aware of the dangers that may occur when operating electrical appliances. Therefore keep such appliances away from children. - No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
This appliance is only intended for domestic use and not for commercial
applications.
- In order to comply with safety regulations and to avoid hazards, repairs of electrical appliances must be carried out by qualified personnel. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to one of our customer service departments. The address can be found in the appendix to this manual.
Before using for the first time
- Remove the appliance from its packaging.
- Remove any exterior and interior packaging materials and make sure that the dust container, filter guard and both Hepa-filters are correctly fitted.
Thermal safety cut-out
This vacuum cleaner is equipped with an integral thermal safety cut-out, which automatically switches the appliance off in case of overheating (e.g. due to blockage in the tube, dust container or filters). Should this occur, remove the plug from the wall socket and let the appliance cool down for a minimum of one hour. The vacuum cleaner may then be used again after the blockage has been removed.
Operation
- Put the vacuum cleaner in its horizontal operating position.
- Insert the hose into the hose connection.
- Connect the tube to the hose grip.
- Attach any of the nozzles provided to the end of the tube. If the full tube length is not required (e.g. when using the crevice tool), the nozzle may be attached directly to the hose grip.
- Pull out the power cord from its storage to the necessary length (but not beyond the red mark) and insert the plug into a suitable wall socket.
- The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a very powerful motor. In order to prevent a fuse within your home electrical installation from being triggered when it
is switched on, always set the power regulator to its lowest setting before the appliance is activated.
- The electronic suction regulator allows the suction power to be variably adjusted to your needs.
- In addition, the suction power can be decreased further by opening the secondary air-flow opening slide in the hose grip.
- Always start with a low setting when cleaning soft objects such as curtains.
Always ensure that the power cord is not routed around or runs over corners or edges, and that it cannot be jammed in a door. - During operation, the hose may be used to pull the unit along behind you. However, when carrying the unit, always use the carrying handle.
- To prevent the power cord from being pulled with excessive force, always change to the next suitable wall socket when cleaning larger areas.
- Switch off the appliance after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.
- To retract the power cord automatically into its storage, use your hand or foot to press down the (folded) handle which activates the retraction mechanism.
Accessories
The crevice tool and dual-purpose attachment are located on the accessory holder.
Multi-purpose tool
The multi-purpose tool is especially suitable for cleaning large areas. It can be adjusted for use on tile floors or carpeted floors by means of the lever on the attachment top.
Crevicetool
The crevice tool is designed to clean difficult-to-reach areas such as grooves, niches, corners and crevices.
The crevice tool can be folded out of the accessory holder; simply pull the tool out of
the accessory holder by its narrow end. After use, replace the tool in the holder, ensuring that the recess on the crevice tool mounting is properly aligned with the corresponding recess on the tool itself. Finally, fold the tool back into the accessory holder.
Dual-purpose attachment
By turning the opening to its appropriate position (against the dash mark), the dual-purpose attachment can be used as an upholstery brush or an upholstery tool. If the marking is aligned with the arrow on the side of the upholstery tool, the nozzle function is selected. With the dash mark on the opposite side, the attachment can be used as an upholstery brush.
Upholstery tool
The upholstery tool is suitable for cleaning smaller areas such as arm rests and chair seats etc.
Upholstery brush
The brush tool is suitable for cleaning uneven areas such as upholstered surfaces, picture frames, rows of books etc.
The dual-purpose attachment can be simply pulled out of the accessory holder. When replacing the attachment on the holder, ensure that the lateral ribs on the attachment fit into the guide-slots in the accessory holder.
Cleaning and care
- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is switched off and disconnected from the power supply.
- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.
- Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
- The housing of the unit and the accessories may be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp lint-free cloth.
Filters
- Before any filter unit is cleaned or replaced, always switch the appliance off and remove the plug from the wall socket.
The vacuum cleaner uses replaceable filters, some of which can also be cleaned.
Hepa-filter inside the filter compartment
This filter is located in the Hepa-filter compartment. Should the filter be visibly dirty, replacement is recommended at the same time as the dust container is emptied.
- Press the release button for the Hepa filter compartment and remove the lid.
- Remove the old Hepa-filter.
- Fit a new Hepa-filter.
- Replace the compartment lid and push it into position until it locks into place.
Dust container with internal Hepa-filter
The dust container must be emptied and cleaned as soon as the MAX' level mark on the container has been reached.
However, if optimum vacuuming power is required, it is advisable not to wait until the MAX' level mark has been reached, but to empty the container more frequently; in addition, regular cleaning of the internal Hepa-filter is also recommended.
To empty and clean the dust container, proceed as follows:
- Press the dust container release and lift out the container by its handle.
- Hold the full dust container over a rubbish bin and press the base release (located at the base of the container). The base opens and the contents empty into the bin.
- After emptying, the inside of the container should be thoroughly cleaned with a dry cloth.
Hepa-filter in dust container and filter guard
The internal Hepa filter inside the dust container can be cleaned or replaced.
- To facilitate cleaning, the Hepa-filter as well as the filter guard can be removed: take out the filter guard by pulling it downwards, then turn the Hepa-filter clockwise and remove it.
- To clean, first tap the filter guard and the filter itself lightly against a vertical surface, before using a soft brush for thorough cleaning. If the filter and filter guard are very dirty, they may also be cleaned under tap water, again using a soft brush.
- Let the filter guard and Hepa-filter dry thoroughly.
- When replacing the Hepa-filter in the dust container, ensure that the recesses are properly aligned. Turn the filter anticlockwise to lock it.
- Slide the filter guard over the Hepa-filter.
- Close the dust container base and ensure that it locks into place.
- Replace the clean dust container in the appliance, again ensuring that it locks audibly into place.
Replacement filters
Hepa replacement filters may be obtained through SEVERIN Service, quoting article no. SB 9096. The set of two contains the Hepa-filters for the filter compartment as well as for the dust container.
Disposal

Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.
