1 Safety instructions!

about the power supply

• Before connecting the device to your power supply, please ensure that the supply voltage stated on the rating plate is compatible with your mains supply.
• Only connect the power supply to the wall socket when the device is switched off.
• Only to be used with the power supply unit provided with the massage seat.
• Keep the power cord and the device itself away from heat, hot surfaces, damp and liquids. Avoid touching the power supply with wet or even damp hands, or when you are standing in water.
• If the device falls into water, do not try to pick it up. Instead pull the power supply out immediately.
• Disconnect the power supply from the socket immediately after using the device.
• Never pull on the power cord to disconnect the appliance from the mains. Always pull out the power supply!
• Do not carry, pull or rotate the device by its power cord.
• Ensure that the cable will not cause tripping. The cable must not be kinked, trapped or twisted.

• If you have unexplained pain, are receiving treatment from a doctor and/or use medical equipment, consult your doctor before using the Shiatsu massage seat cover.

• Use of the massage device is prohibited in the following cases:

• not on children less then 8 years,

• not on animals,
• never while you sleep,
• not in the car,
• not while ingesting substances that reduce reaction times (e.g. painkiller medications, alcohol).

• Always carefully inspect the cable, the control unit and the Shiatsu massage seat cover for damage before use. Do not attempt to use a defective unit.
• Do not use the unit if there are visible signs of damage on the unit or the cable components, the unit does not work properly or the seat or the control unit have been dropped or become damp. In order to prevent hazards, always send the unit in to the service centre.

operating the unit

• The Shiatsu massage seat cover must only be used for its intended purpose as described in the instruction manual.
• Using the Shiatsu massage seat cover for any other purpose invalidates the warranty.
• Never leave the unit unattended if it is connected to the power supply.
• The maximum operating time for one session is 20 minutes. Allow it to cool off for at least 15 minutes before using it again.
• Do not allow the Shiatsu massage seat cover to come into contact with pointed or sharp objects.

• Never put the unit down next to an electric stove or other sources of heat.

• Never use the Shiatsu massage seat cover if it is folded up.

• Never use the device under covers, such as blankets or pillows.
• Operate the device in an upright position only, never place it flat on the floor.
• Make sure that all moving parts can move freely at all times.
• Never sit, stand or lay on the moving parts of the device with all your weight and do not place objects on the device.

The device is only intended for household use and must not be used for commercial or medical purposes. If you have health concerns, consult your doctor before using the Shiatsu massage seat cover.

The massage seat cover must only be used in enclosed spaces!

Do not use the massage seat cover in damp rooms (e.g. when bathing or showering).

maintenance and cleaning

• The unit is maintenance free.
• You may only clean the device yourself. If the device malfunctions please do not repair it yourself as this leads to the automatic expiry of all guarantee rights. Ask your specialist dealer and have repairs carried out by the service.
• Never remove the cover of the device, as this could expose it to damage. The cover is not washable!
• Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
• Do not use the unit if there are visible signs of damage on the unit or the cable components, the unit does not work properly or the massage seat cover or the control unit have been dropped or become damp. In order to prevent hazards, always send the unit in to the service centre.
• Do not immerse the device in water or other fluids.
• If, nonetheless, liquid should penetrate the device, unplug the power supply unit immediately.

2.1 Items supplied and packaging

Please check first of all that the device is complete and is not damaged in any way. In case of doubt, do not use it and contact your supplier or your service centre.

The packaging can be reused or recycled. Please dispose properly of any packaging material no longer required. If you notice any transport damage during unpacking, please

2.2 What is Shiatsu massage?

Shiatsu is a form of finger pressure massage and one of the most important massaging techniques along with manual lymphatic drainage and reflexology. This form of physical therapy was developed in Japan but stems from traditional Chinese massage. Gentle stroking and beneficial pressure application techniques are used to awaken life forces and encourage them to flow through the body. The object of the massage is not just to ease tension, but also to optimise the flow of life force and harmonise body and soul.

2.3 How does the MEDISANA Shiatsu massage seat cover work?

In the MEDISANA Shiatsu massage seat cover PR-M80 you have a modern device for genuine Shiatsu style back massages.

The MEDISANA PR-M80 Shiatsu massage seat cover has 12 rotating and rocking massage heads for an intensive shiatsu, rolling or spot massage.

These massage heads can be adjusted to provide a shiatsu massage in the "Upper back", "Lower back" and "Whole back" areas, either individually or combined. The device is equipped with an additional vibration massage setting in the seat and a heat function that can be activated in the massage heads. The unique combination of intensive shiatsu and ergonomically adapted back massaging with radiated heat makes the massage seat cover an effective and relaxing treatment.

Their settings can be comfortably adjusted by means of the easy-to-handle control unit.

3 Operating

3.1 Usage

The use of the Shiatsu massage seat cover will improve your wellbeing after a stressful day. The massage effect is particularly useful for treating tense muscles and tired tissue. The unit provides pleasant relaxation for overcoming everyday stress. The massaging can improve your well-being, and is also useful in the sport and fitness areas.

3.2 Operation

Start-up

• Place the Shiatsu massage seat cover on a chair with a high backrest and attach is using the straps ① on the back. Ensure that the seat cover is supported over its entire area and has a sufficiently high backrest.
• Connect the Massage Seat Cover to the power supply unit 5 and plug the power supply unit 5 into the mains. Make sure that it remains accessible.
• Take a seat on the Shiatsu massage seat cover and familiarise yourself with the functions.
• Sit comfortably and upright. Ensure you sit centered and such that the massage heads ③ can move to the left and right of your spinal column.

Operating the unit

The PR-M80 Shiatsu massage seat cover has three functions for an effective massage: fingertip massage (shiatsu massage), vibration massage and heat. The heat function can only be used together with the shiatsu massage on the back. Do not use the unit for more than 20 minutes at a time. After approx. 20 minutes, the unit will switch off automatically. Always allow the unit to cool down fully before you use it again.

Buttons on the control unit

Use the buttons on control pad to operate the massage seat cover:

After you have plugged the plug into the mains socket, The ON/OFF button ⑦ lights up. The device begins with a shiatsu massage on the whole back. If no other button is pressed, the device turns off after 15 minutes automatically.

Timer button 6

With the timer button 6 , you can determine the length of the massage. Press button 6 , the button lights up and switches the timer to 20 minutes (the LED lights up for 20mins). Pressing the button again switches the timer to 10 minutes (the LED lights up for 10mins). Pressing the button 6 once more switches the timer to 15 minutes (the LED lights up for 15mins).

Heating button (heat function)

The heat function can be activated at any time with the shiatsu massage, during which the vibration massage can also be activated. Press the Heating button 8 to activate the function; the Heating button 8 on the control unit lights up. The massage heads light up in red. The heat is radiated through the massage heads 3. Press the button again to switch off the heat function. This switches off the lighting, the LED on button 8 and the massage heads.

Shiatsu button ⑬ (Shiatsu back massage)

Pressing the Shiatsu button 3 starts the Shiatsu massage heads 3 in the back. The device begins with a shiatsu massage on the whole back To select the upper or lower back, press the buttons 10 or 11.

Whole Back button 9 selects Shiatsu massage for the whole back

The Shiatsu massage heads move from the "Park" position at the base of the backrest, up to the shoulder area, massaging the back in a circular motion whilst doing so. Once the uppermost position has been reached, the direction of rotation of the massaging heads is reversed. The heads then travel down to the base of the backrest. Once the heads reach this point, the direction of rotation is reversed again and then travel up the back again.

Upper Back button 10 selects Shiatsu massage for the upper back

The Shiatsu massage heads travel up and down the upper half of the back in a circular motion. The reversal of the direction of rotation takes place when the respective end positions are reached.

Lower Back button 1 selects Shiatsu massage for the lower back

The Shiatsu massage heads travel up and down the lower half of the back in a circular motion. The reversal of the direction of rotation takes place when the respective end positions are reached.

Vibration button (vibration massage)

Within the shiatsu massage function, a vibration massage in the seat can be activated by pressing the vibration massage button 12 . The button lights up and the vibration massage motor switches on. It begins with a gentle massage. After button is pressed again, the vibration massage switches off and the LED turns off.

Position button 14

You can switch from the Shiatsu massage to the spot massage at any time. Press Position button 14 to switch on the function. Press buttons and to determine the position of the massage heads.

Button 15

Button allows you to adjust the position of the massage heads 3 during a rolling massage, whereby each time you press the button 5 , the massage heads 3 are moved by one position.

Button 16

Button 16 adds the rotation of the massage heads to rolling massage.

Pressing button againswitches the left and right-hand groups of massage head from symmetrical to asymmetrical rotation.

Do not use the massage device for longer than 20 minutes and then allow it to cool. Using the device for longer can overstimulate the muscles and cause tension instead of relaxation.

The massage can be finished at any time by pressing the ON/OFF button. After each use, switch the device off using the ON/OFF button and remove the mains adaptor from the mains socket. Always store control unit in its bag.

3.3 To switch off the device

The LED on the ON/OFF button begins to flash and the massage heads travel back down to their "rest" position. Once this is done, the LED on the button stops flashing.

When you switch off the device using the ON/OFF button whilst one of the massage functions is switched on, only the vibration massage and the heat function stop immediately, including heat function. First the massage heads in the back travel downwards to the "Park" position. The button flashes meanwhile and then extinguishes.

4 Miscellaneous

4.1 Cleaning and maintenance

• Before cleaning the device, make sure that it is turned off and the mains plug is removed from the socket. Allow the unit to cool down.
• Only clean the Shiatsu massage seat cover with a soft cloth slightly dampened with a mild detergent (e.g. soap suds). Under no circumstances should you use aggressive detergents, strong brushes, solvents, petrol, thinners or alcohol. Rub the seat dry with a clean dry cloth.
• When cleaning, never immerse the unit in water and make sure that no water gets into the unit.
• Wait until the device is completely dry before using it again.
• Undo any kinks in the cable.
• You should ideally store the device in its original packaging and keep it in a clean, dry place.

4.2 Disposal

This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Consult your local authority or your supplier for information about disposal.

6 Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be corrected free of charge within the warranty period.
3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.
4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. nonobservance of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear (batteries etc.).

1. Liability for direct or indirect consequential losses caused by the unit are excluded even if the damage to the unit is accepted as a warranty claim.
