USER MANUAL Toaster Steel 8002 Solis
7. Always keep a minimum safety distance to walls or heat sen-
sitive materials like fabrics, blinds or curtains. As bread is flammable, the toaster must never be placed under cupboards, other pieces of furniture or flammable materials. The space above the toaster must be kept free and the toaster must ne- ver be covered. The toaster must never be unattended during use.
8. Never carry the appliance by the power cord and do not place
anything on the power cord. Never pull on the power cord to disconnect the appliance from the power mains. Only pull on the plug.
9. We recommend that you do not use an extension cable with
this appliance. Do not place the appliance directly underneath a power socket.
10. Before disconnecting the power plug of the appliance from the
power socket, please make sure that the appliance is not in use.
11. During use, the appliance has to be placed on an even, clean,
stable, heat resistant and dry surface, e.g. a table or work top. Do not place the Solis toaster near the edge of a worktop or table. Do not use the appliance outdoors or in moving vehicles or boats.
12. Always unplug the appliance if it is not in use or left unatten-
ded, and before cleaning. This also applies if you move, assem- ble, disassemble or store the appliance. We recommend the use of a residual current device (RCD safety switch) to provide additional protection during the use of electrical appliances. It is advisable to use a safety switch with a rated residual ope- rating current of 30 mA maximum. For professional advice consult an electrician.
13. Do not make any adjustments to the appliance, cable, plug or

Please read through this user manual thoroughly before using your Solis toaster "Steel", so that you become familiar with your appliance and can use it safely. We thoroughly recommend that you keep these instructions and, if you pass the appliance on, that you also hand these instructions to the new owner. For your own safety, please observe the following safety measures when using elec trical appliances:
1. To prevent electric shock, neither the appliance nor the po-
wer cord and the power plug must come into contact with water or other liquids. Danger of electric shock! Should the appliance resp. the power cord or the power plug come into contact with liquid, use dry rubber gloves to immediately pull the power plug out of the socket. Do not use the appliance again until you have had it’s ability to function safely checked by Solis or a Solis approved service centre.
2. Do not operate the appliance resp. pull or connect the plug
with wet or moist hands or feet.
3. Before using the appliance, check that the voltage stated on
the type plate of the appliance matches your mains voltage. Do not connect the power plug to a plug board to which other appliances are connected.
4. Do not leave the power cable hanging over table edges so that
it can be pulled. Make sure that it does not come into contact with hot surfaces, such as hotplates or a radiator, or that it comes into contact with the appliance.
5. Place the power cord so that it does not pose a tripping hazard.
Keep the power cord away from sharp objects.
6. Keep the appliance away from hot gas, hot ovens and other
heat-emitting appliances or heat sources. Never use the appli- ance on a hot or wet surface. Never place the appliance near moisture, heat and naked flames. Keep the appliance away from moving parts or appliances. GB GB4948 ver attempt repairs yourself, but take your appliance to Solis or a Solis approved service centre in order to get it inspected or mechanically and electrically repaired, in order to avoid a hazard.
27. People with limited physical, sensorial or mental capabilities as
well as unknowing or inexperienced people and children must not use the appliance except when supervised or thoroughly instructed on how to use the appliance by a person respon- sible for their safety. Additionally, they must be aware of the dangers arising from the appliance and know how to operate it safely. Cleaning and maintenance of the appliance must not be done by unsupervised children. Under no circumstances must the appliance be used or cleaned by children under the age of 8.
28. Always keep the appliance and power cord out of the reach
29. Children must be supervised, so that they do not play with the
appliance. Keep the packaging material incl. plastic bags out of the reach of children. Suffocation hazard!
30. Always make sure that the bread resp. pastry you wish to toast
is cut into slices fitting the slots (max. 12 x 12 cm per slice of bread) without standing out on top. The slices should not be too thick or wide, so that they don’t get stuck resp. caught in the slots or impair resp. jam up the lift / lower automatic.
31. Never cover the toaster while the power plug is connected to
the power socket or the appliance is hot resp. cooling down.
32. Never place the bread resp. the pastry on the toaster slots to
warm it up, as this blocks air circulation and might cause da- mage to the appliance.
33. CAUTION: The appliance becomes very hot during use! Allow
the appliance to cool down before removing or attaching parts, moving, relocating or cleaning it.
15. Never take hold of an appliance that has fallen into water or
another liquid. Always use dry rubber gloves to pull the power plug before taking it out. Do not use the appliance again until you have had it’s ability to function safely checked by Solis or a Solis approved service centre.
16. Never place the appliance in such a way that it might fall into
water or come into contact with water or another liquid (e.g. in or next to a sink).
17. Never submerge the appliance, power cable or plug in water,
or bring it into contact with water or other liquids.
18. Place the appliance so that it is never exposed to direct sun-
19. Never insert sharp or pointed objects or tools into the appli-
ance openings or reach into them with your hand. The appli- ance might be damaged resp. risk of electric shock and injury!
20. Never move or lift the appliance while it is in use resp. hot.
21. Only use the appliance as described in this manual. Only use
with the provided accessories or accessories recommended by Solis, incorrect accessories or misuse can lead to damage of the appliance, to fire, electric shock or personal damage.
23. This appliance is only for domestic use and is not suitable for

25. Check the appliance before each use and ensure that the ap-
pliance, power cord and plug are not damaged and no parts have come loose.
26. In order to avoid electric shock, do not use the appliance if the

34. Never touch the hot surfaces of the appliance. Only touch the
outside of the toaster.
35. Only use the toaster if it has been properly assembled, mea-
ning the bread crumb tray is inserted.
36. Regularly empty the bread crumb tray. Large amounts of bread
crumbs should not be allowed to accumulate in the appliance bottom – risk of fire!
37. Never leave the toaster while the appliance is in use.
38. Always keep the appliance and the accessories clean. Please
refer to the notes given in the manual.
39. Never clean the toaster with metal sponges. The metal parti-
cles in the sponge could come loose and touch the electrical components in the appliance, causing electric shock.
40. Do not place any objects on the appliance.
41. Always unwind the power cord fully before plugging the plug
42. Pull the plug after every use. Only then, the appliance is fully

The toaster must not be placed on its side! Never place filled or covered toasts resp. slices of bread in the toaster, this can cause electric shock resp. fire.
44. This toaster is only suitable for toasting bread, crumpets, ba-
gels or muffins. Should you toast any other foods in this toa- ster, it could cause electric shock resp. fire.
45. Never try to remove slices of bread potentially stuck in the
appliance with metal instruments. To do that, use a plastic or wooden instrument. In this event, the appliance must never be warm or connected to the power. GB GB5352 A CANCEL button When you press this button, the toasting, defrosting or reheating function is interrupted immediately and the bread / pastry is lifted up. B Roasting degree control In the position 1, the roasting is the lightest, in the position 6, it is the darkest. C REHEAT button For warming up bread, toast and pastry that has already been toasted. D DEFROST button Defrosting and toasting function combined for frozen toasts, slices of bread resp. pastry. E Operating lever When you push the operating lever down, the toasting process starts; only then can you activate either the DEFROST or the REHEAT functions. F Extra wide toast slots with centering mechanism G Pull-out bread crumb tray Briefly push against the narrow end underneath the inscription PUSH to re- move the bread crumb tray from the appliance. A small portion of the tray springs out and the tray can be removed. H Cord wrap in the bottom
CANCEL button (A) You can stop the toasting process and any other function immediately with the CAN- CEL button. Once the operating lever has been pushed down, the CANCEL button surround lights up in blue. If you press the CANCEL button during the toasting process, the toasting function resp. any other function stops and the bread is lifted up immediately. The button surrounds go out. REHEAT button (C) You can warm up bread / pastry that has already been toasted with the REHEAT function. Place the bread / the toast in the slots. Select the desired toasting degree by turning the roasting degree control to the corresponding position. Push the operating lever (E) down to start the warming-up process. The bread is moved down and simultaneously centered. The CANCEL button surround lights up blue. Press the REHEAT button right after lowering the bread, the blue button surround lights up as well. The warming-up function is activated. The bread is automatically lifted when the warming-up process has been com- pleted. The button surrounds of the CANCEL and REHEAT buttons go out. Note: The warming-up process can be interrupted at any time by a mere press of the CAN- CEL button. This stops the warming-up process and lifts the bread. DEFROST button (D) With the DEFROST function, you can defrost frozen bread / frozen toasts and subse- quently toast them. The toasting time is therefore longer than when toasting bread the classical way. Place the frozen bread / the frozen toast in the slots. Select the desired toasting degree by turning the roasting degree control to the respective position. To start the defrosting process, push the operating lever (E) down, the bread is moved down and simultaneously centered. The CANCEL button surround lights up blue. Press the DEFROST button right after lowering the bread, the blue button surround lights up as well, the defrosting function is activated. Once the defrosting and toasting processes have been completed, the bread is automatically lifted and the button surrounds of the CANCEL and DEFROST buttons go out. Note: The defrosting process can be interrupted at any time by a mere press of the CANCEL button. This stops the defrosting process and lifts the bread.
Remove and discard all packaging materials and potential advertisement stickers (except for the type plate). Wipe the appliance chassis clean with a soft, slightly moist towel and dry it. Place the appliance on a dry, even and heat resistant work surface. Make sure that the bread crumb tray (G) is pushed all the way into the appliance Note: Before the toaster is used for the first time, it is recommended that the roasting de- gree control (B) is set to the highest position 6 and the toasting process is completed once without toast / bread, by connecting the power plug and pushing down the op- erating lever (E). The toaster produces thin smoke and potentially a slight smell when used for the first time. This is absolutely normal and does not impair the functionality of your toaster in any way. Make sure that the room is sufficiently ventilated. GB GB5756
5. Once the toasting process is completed, the bread / pastry is automatically lifted
and the CANCEL button surround goes out. Notes: – The toasting process can be interrupted at any time by a mere press of the CAN- CEL button. This stops the toasting process and the bread is lifted. – If you do not want to use the classic toasting function and use the DEFROST or REHEAT functions instead, press the respective button right after lowering the operating lever (E), the button surround of the button you have pushed lights up in blue to indicate the function, just like the CANCEL button surround.
Never leave the toaster unsupervised while it is in use, as there is always the risk of the bread getting stuck in it and starting to burn. In the unlikely event of a toast, bread or bagel being stuck in the slot, switch the appliance off with the CANCEL button. In this case, pull the power plug from the power socket and let the appliance cool down completely before removing the bread from the slot with a wooden tool (e.g. a cooking spoon). Be especially careful not to damage the heating elements when doing that.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
1. Pull the power plug and let the toaster cool down completely.
2. To remove the bread crumbs, you have to pull the bread crumb tray (G) out of
the appliance. To do that, briefly push against the narrow end of the bread crumb tray (G), underneath the inscription PUSH. A small portion of the tray springs out, the tray can now be pulled out. Empty the bread crumb tray and, if neces- sary, clean it with a soft, dry towel. Then, push the bread crumb tray all the way back into the appliance. Do not place the bread crumb tray in the dish washer.
1. Plug the power plug into a suitable power outlet.
2. Place the bread, the slice of toast or the crumpet resp. bagel you wish to toast in
the slot. Make sure that the slices are not too thick, long or wide and precisely fit into the slots. The slices should not exceed 12 x 12 cm.
3. Select the desired degree of roasting with the roasting degree control (B). In po-
sition 1, the roasting is lightest, in position 6, it is darkest. Note: When using the toaster for the first time, you should start with roasting degree 3. Different kinds of bread and personal preference might require different roasting de- gree settings. For instance, the setting should be lower for light, fluffy bread than for bread with a firm texture. Likewise, older bread requires a lower degree of roasting, as the bread is drier than fresh bread.
4. To start the toasting process, push the operating lever (E) down, the bread / pastry

3. To remove bread crumbs stuck in the appliance, turn the cold and unplugged
toaster upside down over a dustbin and slightly shake it to allow the crumbs to fall out.
4. Wipe the outside of the appliance clean with a slightly moist, soft towel and dry
it carefully with a dry, soft towel. Caution: – Never use the appliance without the bread crumb tray. – Regularly clean the bread crumb tray. Should too many crumbs accumulate in the toaster, a fire could start! – Do not use any alkaline or aggressive detergents. Also, never use metal sponges to clean the appliance, metal parts could come off the sponge and touch electric components in the appliance, causing an electric shock.
STORAGE Keep the unplugged, cooled out and clean appliance in an upright position in a dry place resp. on a dry work surface. Do not place anything on the toaster.
