6. Assembly

6.1. General assembly information

WARNING To prevent falls, accidents and serious injury, use only the intended assembly parts from Busch+Muller to mount lights or accessory components. If unsuitable or ill-placed brackets are used for the assembly of lights or accessories, these can lead to loosened or detaching parts that may trap in wheels or spokes and cause serious injury.

We have provided two caps to protect unused connector ports from dirt, dust and water ingress. In case of loss, replacements can be obtained from our spare parts shop. (www.bumm-shop.de).

6.2. K-Werk assembly

Attach the K-Werk using the tension Strip provided to a suitable position on the bicycle frame, or alternatively secure in bag or clothing. Properly assemble required accessory components (eq. Head light) and connect to the K-Werk using the light connection 2 or the USB port 4. Use the specific dynamo cable to connect the Hub dynamo of your cycle to the dynamo connection 3. If you are unfamiliar with these components please enlist the assistance of a bicycle specialist to ensure correct assembly.

NOTE Ensure that cable connections are not loose, and that these will not accidentally disconnect. Always route cables so that they have sufficient play and are not dangerously exposed to snagging. This could result in accidents or falls.

7. Operation

A Busch+ Muller head light (eg. IQ-XM speed) may be operated via the light port 2. The USB port 4 may be used in power bank function to charge a USB device. Alternatively, the K-Wer1 can be charged via this same USB port 1.
If the remaining charge in the K-Wer1 is low, the power bank function will be deactivated. If the remaining charge in the K-Wer1 is low, possible extra-functions such as high-power mode on Busch-Muller head lights may be deactivated to prevent deep discharge.

The light port 2 retains a higher priority than the USB port 4, which may be limited or deactivated.

To protect the USB port 2 from dirt and damp ensure that the protection cap is kept tightly closed where possible.
NOTE Never ride with a light that does not fulfil the minimum legal requirements. This may result in serious crashes or accidents. Adapt your ride style to the available level of light and interrupt or cease your ride if necessary.
WARNING Never adjust the light angle or connect periphery devices to the K-Werk1 while riding: this may result in serious crashes and injury.

Busch + Müller KWerk - Operation - 1

  1. Battery Capacity (display at charging and discharging)
The K-Werk1 includes a charge level indicator 5. The charge level is shown in steps of 10% by way of the number, colour and light mode of the active LED's:
Number of Active LED'sLight ModeCharge level
Colour alight flashing
5 blue 50100%
5 blue 4190%
4 blue 4080%
4 blue 3170%
3 blue 3060%
3 blue 2150%
2 blue 2040%
2 blue1130%
1blue10
1red1010%
1red01

As soon as the red LED on the K-Werk 1 is alight (charge level ≤ 10% ), then it is necessary to re-charge. Once the indicator LED lights red, appr. I hr run time remains when using in combination with the IQ-XM Speed. This value is valid for the lowest light level on dipped beam mode, connected to the light connection 2 . High beam cannot then be activated. If the red indicator LED is flashing, any head light connected to the light connection 2 will be in "safe-way-home" mode. The light will get successively dimmer over the following 60 mins until it finally goes out. This is done in a controlled way to prevent deep discharge. If the red LED is alight and a blue LED is flashing on the charge level indicator 5 , then an automatic protective power down has been activated. Refer to point 8.2 Protective function for K-Werk.

8.1. K-Werk Charge times

The charging of the K-Werk by means of the dynamo connection depends on a number of factors, such as speed driven, specific dynamo in use and devices connected and in consuming energy. The K-Werk can accept a max charge current of 2A.

With no devices attached, charge time at 15 Km/h (minimum) Charging via USB with proprietary Busch+Muller charger Charging via third party USB chargers

If third party charging devices are used, the any warranty is no longer valid.

appr 10 hours appr 5.5 hours up to 14 hours

Busch + Müller KWerk - K-Werk Charge times - 1

Once the charging process has been completed the 5 blue LED's will be switched off.
The K-Werk can provide up to 4500mAh with a maximum of 2 A as a power bank. As soon as a device requiring charge or supply is connected to the USB-port, the charging process shall commence. Once the charge level descends below a given threshold value the power bank function will automatically be switched off to allow priority to the light port.
Longevity protection advice for K-Werk : Should the K-Werk remain unused for longer periods, store in a cool and dry environment at 30 - 50 % remaining charge capacity. If the charge capacity of the K-Werk descends below 10% and then fully charged, then the K-Werk will calibrate anew. The calibration is completed when all LED's switch off.
In order to protect the life span of the battery, it is recommended charging is only done between 0 and 45^ Celsius.

8.2. K-Werk Protective Functions

Protection against overheating: Should the K-Werk reach a temperature of over 70^ Celsius all supply ports will be shut down for appr. 60 minutes in order to prevent overheating. In this shut-down mode charging the K-Werk is also not possible.

Protection against overcharging: If too high a voltage is connected to the K-Werk, or too high a current is detected, the USB port will be temporarily shut down to prevent damage. Short-circuit fuse of power bank: Should more than 2 A current flow from power bank to connected device, the power bank function will be temporarily be shut-down to prevent damage either to the K-Werk or the device connected.

Short-circuit fuse of the light port: Should more than 5 A current flow (incl power bank) from the light port 2 power bank to connected device, then the light port 2 will be temporarily be shut-down to prevent damage either to the K-Werk 1 or the head light connected. The shutdown protection will be lifted after appr. 4 minutes. The shut-down protection will be lifted after appr. 4 minutes.

In each error case described under 8.2 the red LED of the battery capacity indicator 5 of the K-Werk 1 will illuminate while additionally one of the blue LED's flashes. This will continue until the error is corrected or one or more protection modes are lifted.

WARNING Should such an error occur then cease the ride straight away to avoid accidents.
