Pre-operation leak testing General information Although all gas connections on the grill are leak tested prior to shipment, a complete gas tightness check must be performed at the installation site due to possible shifting during shipment, installation or excessive pressure unknowingly being applied to the unit. Periodically check the whole system for leaks and immediately check the system if the smell of gas is detected. Before testing
- DO NOT smoke while leak testing.
- Extinguish all open ames.
- Never leak test with an open ame.
- Mix a solution of equal parts mild detergent or liquid soap and water. Testing 1 Turn off the burner control knobs 2 Turn the top knob of the fuel supply cylinder counter-clockwise (right to left) two (2) rotations to open. 3 Apply the soap solution to connections of the fuel supply assembly. If no soap bubbles appear, there is no gas leak. If bubbles form at the connections, a leak is detected. If a leak is detected, immediately turn off the gas supply, tighten any leaking ttings, turn gas ON, and repeat steps 1 - 3. 4 Turn off the knob on the fuel supply cylinder. 5 Turn on the burner control knobs for a moment to release the pressure in the hose, then turn the control knobs back off. 6 Wash off soapy solution with cold water and towel dry. Check all gas supply ttings before each use and each time the gas supply cylinder is connected to the regulator. Have a qualied service technician leak test the grill any time a part of the gas system is replaced. It is also recommended to perform a leak test a least once a year whether or not the L.P. gas supply cylinder has been disconnected. NOTE: When leak testing this appliance, make sure to test and tighten all loose connections, including the side burner. A slight leak in the system can result in a low ame, or hazardous condition. Most L.P. gas tanks now come equipped with a leak detector mechanism internal to the tank, when gas is allowed to escape rapidly, it shuts of the gas supply. a leak may signicantly reduce the gas ow making the grill difcult to light or causing low ames. NOTE: If you cannot stop a gas leak turn off the gas supply and call your local gas supplier or the dealer you purchased the appliance from. If necessary, replace the faulty part with the manufacturer’s recommended replacement part. A slight leak could cause a re. NOTE: If the grill will not light after several attempts, see the Trouble Shooting section of this manual. Turn the control knobs to the OFF position when not in use.80 Lighting the Grill DO NOT ATTEMPT TO “LIGHT” THE GRILL IF THE ODOR OF GAS IS PRESENT! Before and after lighting 1 Ensure your grill is located on a level surface. 2 Keep the gas grill area clean and free from combustion materials, gasoline, and other ammable vapors and liquids. 3 Ensure nothing is obstructing the ow of combustion and ventilation air. 4 Ensure the ventilation of the cylinder enclosure are free and lear of debris. 5 Visually check burner ames.
WARNING: Check the gas supply line for cuts, wear or abrasion. Always keep your face and body as far away
from the grill as possible when lighting. Grill burner lighting Lighting the Grill with Electronic Igniter 1 Make sure all control knobs are in the “OFF” position 2 Open the gas supply valve located on top of your L.P. tank ATTENTION: When turning the L.P. tank on, make sure to open the valve very SLOWLY two (2) complete turns to ensure proper gas ow. 3 Always open the hood before attempting to light. 4 Push and turn one of the control knobs counter-clockwise to the “HIGH” position and immediately press the electronic igniter button. You will hear a snapping sound. It may be necessary to hold the electronic starter button for about 4 seconds. (See Fig. 4) NOTE: If the burner does not light in 4 seconds, turn the knob to the “OFF” position and wait 5 minutes before trying again. 5 Repeat above steps to light remaining burners. Match lighting If by chance the electronic igniter does not light the burner, the burner may be lit with a match attached to the match extender, located on the inside of the cart door. Keep your face as far away from the grill surface as possible and pass the match extender through the spaces in the grill grates to the ports of the back crossover burner between the avor grids. Position the match near the burner ports and push and turn the control knob counter-clockwise to the “HIGH” position. (See Fig. 5) The match extender can be stored inside the cart door by sliding the extender ring through the opening on the inside, back of the cart door. (See Fig. 6). NOTE: If the grill will not light after several attempts see the trouble- shooting section of this manual. Turn the control knobs to the OFF position when not in use. Keep any electrical supply cords and the fuel supply away from any heated surfaces. Fig. 4 Fig. 5 Fig. 6FR

Fig. 782 Bottom infrared cooking tips Even with an expert chef, infrared cooking can be quite a challenge. If you follow these simple suggestions, you will soon be making juicier, more savory foods than you have ever experienced before. In general, foods will cook in less time than they would take on an ordinary grill. If you rotate food regularly (about every 2 minutes), extreme charring is avoided. Infrared grills work by producing concentrated heat which quickly sears the meat. Searing holds in avor and juices while allowing the surface to soak in smoke and food aroma that is produced as grease and drippings are vaporized by the infrared burner. The outcome is a crisp, savory exterior with a tender, moist interior - just the outcome you want with most grilled foods. How to grill with bottom infrared burner
- Place food on grill grids and turn every 2 to 2 1/2 minutes until food is cooked to desired doneness. Do not let food cook more than 2 1/2 minutes without turning.
- Perfect cross sear marks can be made by rotating food 90° We recommend that you turn food being grilled on an infrared burner every two minutes during the cooking period. Never allow food to cook more than 2 1/2 minutes without turning. These are recommended times only. Due to variations in cuts of meat and personal taste, your cooking times may vary. Use your discretion when using your infrared burner. Controlling are-ups Never attempt to control a are-up by dousing with water. Burner damage will result and void your warranty. With proper care, are-ups should not present a problem with your grill. Minimize are-ups by:
- Properly pre-heating the grill
- Trimming excess fat from meat
- Cleaning grill regularly to avoid grease build-up
- Repositioning meat during cooking If are-up occurs, move meat to a different portion of the grill until the are-up is under control. Food Item Approx. Cook Time Chicken Breast, boneless Chicken Breast, bone-in Hambuger, 1/2 thick Steak, 1” thick
General Instructions Gas barbecues are designed for outdoor use only. Barbecues have wheels making them portable and easy to transport. Your Barbeque came to you assembled and after being tested. If not, please read assembly instructions before you begin to assemble your barbecue. Make sure barbecue is properly assembled before using the appliance. Do not let children play with the barbecue. Storage After using your gas barbecue, turn off gas at the gas cylinder and allow appliance to cool down. Store in a well ventilated area and keep children away from the appliance. Do not put anything ammable on the storage shelf under the barbecue. If leaving barbecue outside, use an outdoor cover to protect from weather damage. Allow barbecue to cool down before covering or moving the appliance. Cooking Use heat resistant gloves when operating the barbecue. Do not place ngers or hands near the edge of the cooking area as this gets very hot. Use suitable barbecue tools to turn food on the grill. Do not use ngers! Operating Ensure barbecue is secure and positioned on level ground. Always perform a gas leak test prior to using the unit and after a prolonged period of non-use (see ‘Gas Leak Tests’ above). Cleaning Allow appliance to cool down before cleaning. Use hot soapy water on outer surface areas and rinse well with clean water. Dry with a soft, clean cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaning products on the barbecue as these can scratch and damage the surface. Remove the grills for cleaning in hot soapy water. Rinse well with clean water and dry before replacing in the barbecue. When cleaning the valves and burners be careful not to stretch the valve orices or burner ports.84 Frequently asked questions I have just bought my rst gas barbecue – what gas do I need? We recommend propane for all our barbecues. Use the 10 kg. gas tanks, which you’ll nd at specializing stores and gas stations. There appears to be something peeling off the inside of the hood. What should I do? Do not worry, this isn’t paint. Many of our barbecue hoods are coated either with a baked-on porcelain enamel, which cannot peel, or a high-temperature paint nish. What you can see is a deposit of grease and smoke that collects during normal use to form a carbon layer. This will eventually peel and looks very similar to paint. The peeling normally starts in the centre of the lid and spreads outwards and may come off in sheets or akes. These carbon deposits are non-toxic and easy to remove which we suggest you do on a regular basis. Brush off all loose particles with a barbecue brush before you start grilling and, while the hood is warm rather than hot, wipe it with a cloth soaked in a mild soap and water solution. What is direct and indirect cooking? Direct cooking (atbed or hooded models) is simply placing foods directly over the heat source. For indirect cooking (hooded models only) the food is placed to the sides of the heat source, not directly over it. As a general rule when barbecuing joints or roasts that require longer cooking times, you should use the indirect method. This allows the food to cook through thoroughly while still adding the extra barbecue avour. Will my porcelain coated (matt) cast iron grills be safe in the dishwasher? Do not place any grills/griddles into your dishwasher as they could become damaged or in fact damage your dishwasher. How should I care for my porcelain coated, cast iron grills/griddle? You should soak them in warm soapy water and then use a non-abrasive scourer after each use of the barbecue. Also by oiling the grills/griddle before cooking you will reduce foods from sticking and this will also help with cleaning them after use. My gas barbecue has a yellow ame – is this normal? The ame on your gas barbecue should be blue. If you have a yellow ame it could be caused by a couple of different problems: First check the burner to make sure there are no cracks or holes and that all the burner holes are the same size. Also, check that there is nothing blocking the burner holes, or the burner venturi tube. (This is the tube that is part of the burner, between the burner body and the gas valve) Small insects, and spiders in particular, like to crawl into the burners and cause obstructions to the gas and airow – this particularly happens over a prolonged period of non-use/storage. Spider guards are tted to the air intakes in an effort to reduce this problem, but will not eliminate it. Spider guards should also be kept clean. A simple pipe cleaner will allow you to clear any blockages. If the burner appears to be ne then the problem might be with the regulator. Sometimes regulators get stuck. This can reduce the gas ow, make a yellow ame and prevent your barbecue from reaching its correct cooking temperature. If the regulator remains stuck it should be tested or replaced. Also check that your gas bottle is not running low, as this would affect the amount of gas your barbecue is receiving. Can I use charcoal in my gas barbecue? No. Gas barbecues are designed to handle the heat created by the burners and not the heat created by burning charcoal or other fuels. Such actions would cause damage to your gas barbecue as well as creating signicant risk to the user and any others nearby.FR
Frequently asked questions Why do I get are ups when using my gas barbecue? Flare-ups occur when meat is barbecued, and its fat and juices fall upon the ame tamer. Smoke helps give food its barbecued avour, but excessive are-ups should be avoided to prevent the food being burned. Excessive are-ups will actually burn the outside of the food and leave the middle possibly undercooked. To control are-ups it is advisable to trim away excess fat from meat and poultry before grilling. The burner should always be placed on the low to medium setting during cooking. Always protect your hands when touching anything near the cooking surfaces. We also suggest that you do not overload the barbecue with too much food at one time. Is there any taste difference between charcoal and gas? The common belief that charcoal gives barbecued food its unique taste is, in fact, untrue. The juices and fat from the food drip on to the lava rock/ame tamer/charcoal and vaporise into smoke which then rises, basting the food and creating its “barbecue” avour. Charcoal itself does not add any avour however avoured wood chips, of which there are many varieties, will do. How high should the ame be on my gas barbecue? The ame you see is only 50% of the total of the ame as it comes from under a lip on the burner, designed to help spread the ame. Typically you will only see 3 mm of the ame. Finally, make sure your barbecue is located on safe, level ground, ensuring the barbecue is at least 1 metre away from ammable materials such as trees or fences. How should I care for my burners? It is normal for rust to form on the cast iron but any food debris should be removed on a regular basis. This can be cleaned off using a wire brush. Burners should be periodically removed for inspection and cleaning, particularly after a period of non-use/storage. They should be checked for general condition and to ensure the portholes are not becoming blocked. These can be cleaned with the use of a wire brush or pipe cleaner. Care should be taken not to damage the gas valve or ignition electrode when removing the burners. When the barbecue is being stored, we advise wrapping the burners in foil to keep the burner holes free from insects and other debris. My barbecue will not light using the ignition system what should I do? Check your gas bottle and replace if necessary. Check that the burners are not blocked and if necessary clean and replace. Make sure the gas hose has no kinks or obstructions. First check that the electrode wire is not loose, to do this you must remove the front control panel. Also check that the gas collector box around the electrode is in line with the burner with a gap of 3 to 4mm between the end of the electrode and the tag on the end of the gas collector box. Realign the collector box as required. Can I replace my grill with a griddle? We do not suggest that the cooking area is more than 50% griddle as this could cause the barbecue to overheat and be damaged. You may however convert the whole cooking area to grills as this will not impair performance or cause any excess heat build-up. My burner is loose t where it goes onto the gas valve, won’t gas leak out? No, as the gas is injected from the valve it creates a small vacuum. This draws air in which is actually required in order for the gas to burn when it comes out of the burner. There is actually a slot in the burner tube under the mesh to ensure that there is an adequate supply of air.86 Care and maintenance Infrared burner cleaning After each use, it is necessary to burn the bottom infrared burner with the hood open for at least ve minutes to vaporize any food drippings or particles. Failure to perform this step will damage the burner. It may occasionally be necessary to brush, blow, or vacuum accumulated ash from the burner surface. Do so carefully and only when the burner is cool. Protection of infrared burners The burners of your grill are designed to provide a long life of satisfactory performance. However, there are steps you must take to prevent cracking of the burner’s ceramic surfaces, which will cause the burners to malfunction. The following are the most common causes of cracks and the steps you must take to avoid them. Damage caused by failure to follow these steps is not covered by your grill warranty. Impact with hard objects Never allow hard objects to strike the ceramic. You should take particular care when inserting or removing cooking grids and accessories into or from the grill. If objects such as these fall onto ceramic, it is likely to crack the ceramic. Impaired ventilation of hot air from grill In order for the burners to function properly, hot air created by the burners must have a way to escape, the burners may become deprived of oxygen, causing them to backre, especially if the burner output is set to “HIGH”. If this occurs repeatedly, the burners may crack. This is the reason your grill was designed with ventilation louvers. These design features give the hot air an escape route. Accordingly, never operate your grill with very little or no open space at the cooking surface (the cooking grids provide sufcient space). Also, never cover the ventilation louvers with foil or other materials that prevent air ow. Specically, DO NOT cover the entire surface with foil, a large pan, etc. General maintenance
- Keep outdoor cooking gas appliance area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline and other ammable vapors and liquids.
- DO NOT obstruct the ow of combustion and ventilation air.
- Keep the ventilation opening of the cylinder enclosure free and clear from debris.
- Visually check the burners. Normal Soft blue ames Out of Adjustment Hard blue ames too much air Poor Combustion Wavy, yellow amestoo little airFR
Care and maintenance Drip tray The drip tray should be cleaned periodically to prevent heavy buildup of debris. NOTE: Allow the drip tray to cool before attempting to clean. IMPORTANT: DO NOT leave the grill outside during inclement weather unless it is covered. Rain water can collect inside of the grill, the grill cart or the drip tray if left uncovered. If the drip tray is not cleaned after use and the grill is left uncovered, the drip tray will ll with water causing grease and water to spill into the grill cart.We recommend cleaning and storing the drip tray after every use. Cooking grates The cooking grates can be cleaned immediately after cooking is completed and after turning off the grill.Wear a barbecue mitt and scrub the cooking grates with a damp cloth. If the grill is allowed to cool down, cleaning the grates will be easier if removed from the grill and cleaned with a mild detergent. Stainless steel After initial usage, areas of the grill may discolor from the intense heat given off by the burners, this is normal. Purchase a mild stainless steel cleaner and rub in the direction of the grain of the metal. Specks of grease can gather on the surface of the stainless steel and bake on to the surface and give a worn appearance. For removal, use a nonabrasive oven cleaner in conjunction with a stainless cleaner. NOTE: Always scrub in the direction of the grain. Porcelain parts Certain parts of your grill have a porcelain coating. Porcelain is a glass-based product, and is highly durable to standard wear and tear. However, porcelain is sensitive to concussive blows, which can create interlaced micro-fractures, or “spider webs”. Please take care not to strike any porcelain covered parts with solid objects, drop them, or create any other concussive blows. These interlaced micro-fractures are common and may lead to minor chipping. Neither the chipping nor the interlaced micro-fractures will adversely affect the performance of your grill, and are not covered under the warranty for porcelain parts.88 Problem Solution Grill will not light when the igniter button is pushed. Is your gas supply turned on? If this is an L.P. grill, is there gas in your tank ? Check your gas level. Is one of your burners turned on? Allow up to four seconds of gas flow to ignite. Is your igniter working?
- You should hear a snapping sound when you press the igniter?
- If you hear a snapping sound can you see a spark at the electrodes? Note - You will need to remove your cooking grates and flavor grids to see the electrodes. Check to see if your igniter battery is installed correctly with the negative side in. Check your igniter battery and replace if needed. Check for loose wire connections to the igniter or electrodes. Check to see if debris is blocking the electrodes. If the igniter is not working can you light the grill with a match? Troubleshooting General trouble shooting You should inspect the burners at least once a year or immediately if any of the following conditions occur:
- Flames appearing mostly yellow. (some yellow at the tips is OK)
- The grill will not get hot enough.
- Burners make a snapping noise.
- The grill heats unevenly. Spider and insect warning Spider and insects can nest in the burners of this or any other grill and cause the gas to ow from the front of the burner. This is very dangerous condition which can cause a re to occur behind the valve panel, thereby damaging the grill and making it unsafe to operate. We recommend you check the grill and remove any spiders, insects and webs at least once a year to reduce this risk. Before calling customer service If the grill does not function properly, use the following checklist.FR
Troubleshooting Problem Solution Grill will not light with a match or low heat with dial set to “HIGH” position. Flame is erratic Flare-ups Burner flame is mostly yellow or orange, possibly in conjunction with smell of gas. Cart door does not align properly with cart Is your gas supply fully turned on? Is there gas in your L.P. tank? Check your gas level. Shut off gas supply, disconnect gas line at the tank, re-connect the line to the tank. Make sure all the knobs are in the “OFF” position, then open the gas supply valve on the L.P. tank very slowly 1/4 turn, then open fully (at least two full turns). Check flame. Check to ensure the gas supply line or hose is not kinked. If only one burner appears low, check and clean the burner ports if clogged or dirty. Check for leaks. NOTE: Pre-heating time can take from 5-10 minutes Check gas connection. Look for kinked hose and make sure gas supply valve is fully open. Gas level may be low. Grill may be in need of cleaning. Check flavor grids and cooking grates for excess food or grease buildup. Ensure grill is not placed directly in the path of wind. Be sure drip tray is clean (DO NOT use aluminum foil on drip tray). NOTE: Some flare-ups may be inevitable if cooking greasy foods. Check the burner inlet for obstructions. Particularly at air inlets for each burner. Grill may be in an area that is too windy. Loosen the four 1/2” bolts under the grill hood that hold grill to cart. Slide grill head left or right as needed until door is aligned properly. Retighten bolts.
WARNING: Move grill head gently to the left or right on the cart! After
the four bolts have been loosened, the grill is not attached to the cart and could fall, causing damage or physical injury.90 Limited warranty Boretti warrants that for 2 years from the date of purchase, the stainless steel panels will not break due to defects in material or workmanship.
