Features

This Duo Coffee-Maker has two separate water passage systems. The features and accessories of your appliance will depend on the model.

Automatic switch-off

To save energy, models with a thermo vacuum jug will switch off automatically once the brewing cycle has been completed. Those with a regular glass jug will automatically switch off about 35 minutes after brewing.

General information before use

  • Scales on the water containers facilitate filling them with the correct amount of clean water. With a dual-scale, the left scale is used for regular-sized cups of approx.125ml, while the right scale is used for smaller cups. Make sure that the indicated maximum is not exceeded.

  • If several consecutive brewing cycles are required, switch off the coffee maker after each cycle and let it cool down for approx. 5 minutes.

  • Important note: When filling the appliance with fresh water shortly after a brewing cycle is completed, there is a danger of scalding from hot water or steam escaping through the water outlet.

Before using for the first time

Before making coffee for the first time, let the appliance go through two or three filtration cycles without using ground coffee. This should also be done if the appliance has not been used for an extended period of time, and after descaling.

Making coffee

Filling with water:

Open the water container lid, fill the container with the desired quantity of clean, cold water (using the glass jug) and close the lid.

  • Inserting the paper filter:

Open the swing-out fi Iter holder and insert a size-4 paper filter, first folding down the perforated sides of the fi Iter.

Filling with ground coffee:

For each regular-sized cup (125ml), a measure of about 6 g (= 112 - 2 teaspoons) of medium or finely ground coffee will be required. For smaller cups, about 4g = 1 - 112 teaspoons will be required. Close the swing-out holder afterwards.

Preparing the glass jug:

Make sure to fit the lid onto the glass jug before placing it onto the hot-plate. If correctly inserted, the lid will disable the drip-stop mechanism in the swing-out fiiter during the brewing cycle.

Starting the brewing cycle:

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet and use the appropriate On/Off button to turn on the side of the coffee maker to be used. The filtration cycle starts.
- Removing the freshly brewed coffee: Wait until all the water has passed through the filter before removing the jug from the appliance.

  • Switching off the coffee maker:

The coffee may be kept warm inside the jug by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. The plate is kept hot for around 35 minutes after brewing is complete. However, it can also be switched off earlier by pressing the On/Off button again.

  • Disconnecting from the mains:

Remove the plug from the wall socket once.
brewing/keeping-warm is complete.

Making tea

Filling with water:

Open the container lid and fi II the container with the desired quantity of clean, cold water.

Caution: Do not put in more than max. 7 cups of water. Close the lid.

Filling with tea leaves:

To load the tea filter, take off its top by turning anti-clockwise, put in the required amount of tea leaves and close again.

Compared with traditional tea-brewing, only a reduced amount of tea leaves should be used, as the yield of the leaves is higher when using this appliance.

Inserting the tefalter:

Insert a tea fi Iter into the glass jug.

Preparing the jug:

Make sure to fit the lid onto the glass jug before placing it onto the hot-plate. Keep the swing-out fi tter closed.

Starting the brewing cycle:

Insert the plug into a suitable wall outlet and use the appropriate On/Off switch to turn on the side of the coffee maker to be used. The filtration cycle starts.

- Removing the freshly brewed tea:

The time the tea is left to stand largely depends on your personal taste as well as on the type of leaves used. Take the jug from the hot-plate and carefully lift out the tea filter. The tea filter may be put onto the closed glass jug to drain off.

- Switchingoff:

The tea may be kept warm inside the jug by leaving it standing on the hot-plate. The plate is kept hot for around 35 minutes after brewing is complete. However, it can also be switched off earlier by pressing the On/Off button again.

- Disconnecting from the mains:

Remove the plug from the wall socket once brewing/keeping-warm is complete.

Dscaling

Depending on the water quality (lime content) in your area as well as the frequency of use, all thermal household appliances using hot water need descaling (i.e. removal of lime deposits) on a regular basis to ensure proper functioning.
Any warranty claim will be null and void if the appliance malfunctions because of insufficient cients.
A lengthening of the brewing time and increased noise during brewing indicate that descending of the coffee maker has become necessary.
An excessive build-up of lime deposits is very difficult to remove, even when strong.
descaling agents are used. It may also
cause the brewing system to leak. We

therefore strongly recommend descending the appliance after each thirty to forty brewing cycles. For descending, a vinegar solution may be used.

  • Mix 80 ml of vinegar essence with the indicated maximum amount of cold water.
Pour the descending solution into the water container, insert a paper filter into the filter holder but without adding any ground coffee as described in section Making coffee, and let the appliance run through one filtration cycle. Repeat the procedure if necessary. During descending, ensure sufficient ventilation and do not inhale any vinegar vapours.
To clean the appliance after descaling, let it run through 2-3 ft ltration cycles using clean water only.
  • Do not pour descalers down enamel sinks.

Cleaning and care

  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has completely cooled down.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.
  • Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
  • The housing may be wiped with a slightly damp lint-free cloth and a mild household detergent. Wipe thoroughly dry afterwards.
  • Dispose of the def grounds and rinse the fiiter. As a natural substance, the coffee grounds may be composted.
  • The glass jug, lid, filter holder and tea fi liter may be cleaned in soapy water or in a dish-washer.

Power-cord storage compartment

The integrated power-cord storage compartment is used for storing the power cord. The recess at the bottom facilitates limiting the length of the power cord.
