IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS Please read these instructions carefully before using the appliance. Be careful not to scratch the special coating of the baking plates, as you might get little pieces of this coating into the food. Use a classical wooden spatula or a heat-resistant plastic one. Your appliance must never be switched on through an external timer or any kind of separate remote control system. • Protective coating burn off will cause smoking on first use. This is NOT harmful.

• When using for the first time, wipe the surface of the plates with a damp cloth, then dry.

• To remove the baking plates, press the release buttons, and take out the baking plates.

• Place the desired plates in the appliance by inserting the plate locking tabs in the plate locking openings and press on the plates till you hear a click. You may season the plates with butter, margarine or cooking fat. Since the appliance has a non-stick coated surface, the use of butter or oil is optional.

• Close the sandwich maker and plug into the electrical outlet. The red pilot light will come on to indicate that the appliance is switched on.

• The green pilot light will come on as well when the cooking temperature is reached. During use, this ready light will come on and off regularly. This simply means that the thermostat is regulating the appliance's temperature.

• Attention: during the functioning, the baking plates heat up. Pay attention not to get burned. !! TO AVOID BURNS, WAIT UNTIL THE APPLIANCE HAS TOTALLY COOLED DOWN BEFORE CHANGING THE PLATES. Sandwich function

• Prepare your sandwich while the unit is heating.

• Fully open the sandwich maker. Place a slice of bread in the bottom half with the buttered side against the plate.

• Add the top slice with the buttered side up and carefully close the appliance. Do not force shut. Steam will be ejected from between the plates; make sure that fingers do not come into contact with it.

• Lock the two halves with the wire clip while toasting.

• Your sandwich will be toasted in 2 to 3 minutes or longer to suit your taste. Open the appliance and remove sandwich using a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use a metal knife as this may damage the non-stick coating.

• Close the lid to preserve the heat until you are ready to toast the next sandwiches.

• Prepare additional sandwiches if desired while the others are cooking.

• Unplug when finished. Grill function

• When the appliance has reached the desired temperature, open it and put the foods in on the grill plate. Make sure the foods are not too thick, so that you can close the appliance. The cooking time depends on the type of food you are grilling. To avoid burning the foods, check regularly during the cooking process.

• When grilling is finished, unplug the appliance and leave it open to allow it to cool down.

• Lightly brush grids with butter, margarine or cooking oil.

• Pour batter evenly onto the bottom grid but not all the way to the edges.

• Close the grids. Do not hold the handles during baking. Escaping steam can burn.

• The cover will rise slightly as waffles begin to bake. Do not open the cover for the first minute.

• The average baking time is 4 to 5 minutes but the baking time may vary according to the chosen recipe and the desired browning level.

• Remove the waffles with a plastic or wooden spatula. Never use scratching objects, as these might damage the non-stick coating. Close grids.

• When you have finished baking, unplug the cord from the outlet and leave the grids open to cool.

• When using for the first time, discard the first two waffles you bake on the new grids. • Before cleaning, unplug and wait for the appliance and the plates to cool down.

• Wipe the outside only with a slightly moistened cloth ensuring that no moisture, oil or grease enters the cooling slots.

• To clean the plates you can let them in the appliance or remove them from the appliance; therefore press on the button 2 near the handle and remove them (see picture). If you let them in the appliance, wipe the plates with a damp cloth or towel. If you remove them from the appliance, you can wash them under running water. Dry them afterwards. Never place the plates into the dishwasher.
