When lending the machine, please also pass on the instruction manual so that this new end user can read it fully and carefully. This machine is dangerous if not used by trained hands.

2.2. PERSONAL SECURITY

Be alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when using this machine.

Do not use this machine when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medicines. A moment of distraction when using this machine can cause severe personal damage.

Avoid an accidental start up of the machine. Make sure that the switch is in the open position before connecting to the electrical mains, before picking the machine up or transporting the machine.

Transporting electrical machines with your finger on the switch or plugging into the mains with the switch in the close position can put your security at risk and cause accidents.

Remove all hand tools from the working area prior to starting the machine. Any tools in the working area can come into contact with the machine and can be propelled, causing personal injuries.

Do not overlean. Maintain your feet well placed on the floor and maintain your equilibrium at all times. Maintain always your feet on the floor and only use the machine when your feet are on a fixed surface, well secured and levelled. Slippery surfaces or unstable surfaces like ladders can cause a loss in your equilibrium and loss of control of the machine.

Dress adequately. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Maintain your hair, clothes and gloves away from machine parts in movement. Loose clothing, jewellery or long hair can be caught by the machine parts in movement.

Always use security equipment. Always use eye goggles. The use of adequate security equipment such as anti dust masks, security gloves, non slippery boots, helmet, ear protectors and eye goggles will reduce personal damages. We highly recommend a supplementary equipment to protect head, hands, legs and feet. An adequate clothing will reduce risk of body damage caused by pieces propelled from the machine and through accidental contact with the chain of the

saw. To avoid accidents we recommend the use of security boots, protection helmet and security gloves.

Maintain all body parts well clear of the chain of the machine when the machine is in use. Before start up, make sure the chain is not in contact with any object. One moment of distraction during use can cause your clothing or any body part to come into contact with the chain and can cause severe personal damage.

Hold the machine always with your right hand on the back handle and your left hand on the front handle. Holding the machine with your hands switched, increases the risk of corporal damage and should never be done.

When cutting a branch that is under tension, be alert to the risk of it hitting back. When the tension of the fibres of the wood are released, the branch can kick back at you and you may loose control of the machine.

Be particularly careful when cutting small and young trees. Slim material can be easily caught up in the chain and can be projected towards you and can cause the loss of balance and control over the machine.

If you are not an expert user we recommend that you firstly practice cutting trunks on top of a log holder.

Hold the front handle with the machine disconnected and at a safe distance from other body parts. When transporting or storing the machine, always cover the blade and chain with a cover. An appropriate use of the machine will reduce the risk of contact with the chain in motion.

Store the machine in a place where children cannot reach.

2.3. SECURITY IN THE WORKING AREA

Maintain the working area clean and work with good illumination. Working areas that are not clean or not appropriately illuminated can cause accidents.

Do not handle the machine in areas that may have inflammable liquids, gases or dust. Electrical machines create sparks that could cause any of these to ignite.

Maintain children away from the working area as well as any other passers by. Distractions can cause the loss of control of the machine. Make sure that children, other people and animals do not enter the working area.

2.4. ELECTRICAL SECURITY

The mains must coincide with the electrical cable of the machine. Do not manipulate the electrical cable or the mains in any case. Mains and cables that have not been manipulated will reduce the risks of electric shocks.

Avoid all body contact with pipes, radiators, electric kitchens and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is in contact with earthed products or materials.

Do not expose the machine to rain or humid conditions. Any water or liquid entering the machine will increase the risk of electric shock.

Do not overstretch the cable. Do not use the cable to carry the machine or to pull off from the mains. Maintain the cable well away from heat sources, oil, sharp and jagged areas or pieces in movement. Cables that are damaged or tangled increase the risk of electric shocks.

Never use this machine with the cable or the mains switch damaged. Before start up, always check the

mains and the cable for any damages. If you see any possible damage, do not start the machine and either repair the machines or take the machine for repair. Damaged or tangled cables increase the risk of electric shocks.

The change of the mains switch and/or of the cable must be carried out by the manufacturer or by the after sales service. We recommend that the machine should be connected to a residual differential connector that is less or up to 30mA .

! Never use the machine in a damaged electrical mains or with a damaged cable and that do not meet the requirements and standards necessary for this machine. When using an extra electrical cable, make sure that its minimum section is 1,5mm2 and that it is adequate for outdoor use. The use of a prolongator adequate for outdoor use will highly reduce the risk of electrical shocks.

Place the cable prolongator in such a way that it does not get tangled with branches and other objects in the working area. The cable prolongator must always be behind the user.

Always disconnect the cable from the mains before doing any maintenance work on the machine. Only manipulate the machine when disconnected from the mains.

2.5. USE AND MAINTENANCE OF THE MACHINE

Only cut wood. Do not use the machine for any other uses. For example, do not use the machine to cut plastic materials, bricks or other construction materials that are not wooden. The use of the machine to cut other materials that are not wood can cause severe personal damages.

Use this machine and its accessories according to the instructions included in this instruction manual always taking into account working conditions and the work to be done. The use of this machine for other jobs other than those described here can cause severe personal damage to yourself and the people surrounding you.

The manufacturer will not be liable in any case of damages caused by the misuse of the machine as stipulated in this instruction manual.

Do not force the machine. Use the machine correctly. The correct use of the machine will allow you to use the machine for longer periods of time and for you to work better.

Do not use this machine if the switch cannot be changed from closed to open. Any electrical machine that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

Carry out maintenance work on the machine. Check all moving parts prior to use and make sure these work adequately and that they are not tangled, broken or damaged as this will affect the performance of the machine. Always repair the machine if tangled, broken or damaged prior to use. Most accidents occur due to poor maintenance of the machine.

Maintain cutting parts sharp and clean. The cutting pieces if well sharpened and clean will less probably get tangled up and will make the machine easier to control.

Maintain the handles dry and clean. Slippy or oily handles can cause the loss of control of the machine.

Make sure the machine is not connected to the mains before carrying out any maintenance work, changes in accessories or before storing the

machine. These measures reduce the risk of starting the machine accidentally.

Follow instructions as to oiling, chain tension and chain change. A chain that is not adequately tensed or oiled can break and increase the risk of back kicks.

2.5.1. UNPREDICTABLE FORCES WHEN WORKING WITH THE MACHINE

Maintain full attention when working and cutting with the machine and be alert to any unpredictable forces. These unpredictable forces when cutting with the machine are the back kick, forward pull or back pull. All these forces can make you lose your equilibrium and can cause dangerous situations.

2.5.1.1. BACK KICK

The contact of the point of the blade can in certain cases cause a sudden back kick, propelling the blade back up towards the user. This normally happens when the tip of the blade comes into contact with an object when the machine is running. The contact of the chain on the tip of the blade can cause an unpredictable force that can push the blade back towards the end user. This can cause the loss of control and can cause severe personal damages.

2.5.1.2. FORWARD PULL

Should the chain get tangled or get caught by the wood, it will pull the end user forward. The chain when it loses speed or comes to a standstill will pull the machine forward and could cause a loss of control and possible severe personal damages.

2.5.1.3. BACK PULL

If the top part of the chain and blade become imprisoned in the wood, it can cause a back pull and

the blade could rebound backwards towards the user. The chain when imprisoned or at a standstill and if the machine is not properly fixed to the wood by the claw can cause loss of control of the machine and severe damage to the user.

GARLAND Bulk First E - BACK PULL - 1

Any of these reactions can cause a loss of control of the saw and could cause severe corporal damage. Do not only rely on the security measures of the machine. As user of the machine, take the necessary measures to eliminate the risk of accident and/or personal injury when cutting with the machine.

These forces occur are due to an improper use of the machine and/or because of the incorrect interpretation of the instruction manual and can be avoided by following these simple instructions:

  • Hold the machine firmly with both hands with your fingers and thumbs closing on the handle and place your body and arms so that you can avoid any danger from any of the above mentioned unpredicatable forces. These unpredictable forces can be avoided by the user if adequate precautions are taken by the user. Never let go of the machine.
  • Do not overstretch your arms or cut above shoulder level. This will help to avoid involuntary contacts of the point of the bar and chain and will allow a better control of the machine in unpredictable circumstances.

  • Only use bars and chains recommended by the manufacturer. The use of other bars and/or chains can cause the chain to break and/or back kicks.

  • Follow the manufacturers instructions about sharpening of the chain and general maintenance of the chain. If the minimum level in the chain calibre is surpassed it will cause an increase in back kicks and back pulls.
Always control where the tip of the bar is when working.
  • Ensure the tip of the bar does not touch any object.
  • Do not cut branches with the tip of the bar.
  • Make sure that there is no metal pieces of any sort in the cutting area and pay special attention to metal parts near or close to the working and cutting area. Also, be careful when cutting hard woods as the chain could get caught and come to a standstill thus increasing the risk of the above mentioned unpredictable forces.
  • Start cutting with the machine at full throttle and maintain this full throttle during the duration of the cutting work.
Only cut one branch or piece of wood at a time.
  • Be extremely careful when introducing the chain into a cut that has already been started.
  • Do not start cutting until familiarised with basic cutting techniques.
  • Do not cut branches or pieces of wood that could change position during the duration of the cut.
  • Maintain the chain in a good state.

  • Only work if the chain is sharp and properly tensed.

  • Never position yourself in the cutting area of the chain.

2.6. AFTER SALES MAINTENANCE

Make sure you periodically you take the machine to an official after sales service who will ensure that your machine is safe using if needed only original spare parts and accessories.

Bar cover.

6.2. MOUNTING THE MACHINE

6.2.1. MOUNTING THE BAR AND CHAIN

The chain of the machine has very sharp teeth. Always use security gloves to avoid accidental cuts.
Make sure the machine is not connected to the mains before doing any maintenance or other work on the machine. The bar and chain are supplied separately. To mount them, follow the following steps:
1. Activate the chain brake pushing forward until you hear a click sound.
2. Loosen the nut of the chain cover and remove the chain cover.
3. Place the chain on the bar.
Before mounting the chain on the bar, make sure the direction of the chains teeth are facing correctly. The correct position of the chain will have the cutting edges facing clockwise.

GARLAND Bulk First E - MOUNTING THE BAR AND CHAIN - 1

  1. Mount the bar (with the chain fitted) introducing the tensing pin (B) in the hole of the bar and placing the chain around the attacking pinion.

GARLAND Bulk First E - MOUNTING THE BAR AND CHAIN - 2

GARLAND Bulk First E - MOUNTING THE BAR AND CHAIN - 3

  1. Place the bar cover back in place ensuring the tensing pin is still in the hole of the bar.
  2. Place the bar cover nut back in place but do not tighten fully.
  3. Tense the chain, for this follow the instructions under 6.3.4.
  4. Tighten the bar cover nut fully.
  5. Check that the chain slides along the bar maintaining at all times the tension when you move it with your gloved hands. If needed, repeat the process until the chain is mounted correctly.
New chains have a certain dilatation when first used. Verify and regulate the tenion of the chain regularly. An incorrectly tensed chain will wear out quickly and will also wear out the guide of the bar.

6.3. POINTS TO BE CHECKED PRIOR TO USING THE MACHINE

The electric current and electric tension must comply with those on the characteristics label of the machine. Before starting to work with the machine, always check the machine works correctly and securely. Check the machine and ensure all nuts are tightly secured, there are no lose pieces. Replace or repair any broken pieces that you may have seen to

be in a bad state. Ensue there are no oil leakages. Do not use the machine if damaged or incorrectly regulated.

6.3.1 VERIFICATION OF THE CHAIN BRAKE

When the machine kicks back, the tip of the bar elevates itself and the machine changes angle sharply not allowing the end user to change the arms position and the arm hits against the security protector and this activates the chain brake. The chain brake stops the engine in 0.15 seconds.

GARLAND Bulk First E - VERIFICATION OF THE CHAIN BRAKE - 1

The chain brahe can be activated at any moment by pushing the security protector forward. To remove the chain brake, pull the security protector back until you hear a click.

GARLAND Bulk First E - VERIFICATION OF THE CHAIN BRAKE - 2

Check the chain brake every time you use the machine prior to start up. To do this and with the machine not on the mains, activate the chain brake by

pushing the security protector until you hear a click. Hold the machine horizontally at a distance from the wood of some 40cm remove the hand holding the

front handle and allow the machine to carefully fall until the tip of the bar touches the piece of wood. If the brake works correctly the chain should not move when it contacts the piece of wood. If this is not the case and the chain moves, you must take the machine to your nearest after sales agent for the machine to be repaired.

6.3.2. CHAIN OIL

Only use oil specifically recommended for chainsaws. Do not use already used oils or oils with impurities as this could damage the oil pump of the machine.

The chain oil must be introduced in the chain oil deposit. To avoid dirt and impurities entering the interior of the deposit, clean the oil cap of the deposit before opening it. Close the cap of the oil level and clean if any oil has fallen outside the deposit.

Check the level of the oil by looking at the oil level gauge.

GARLAND Bulk First E - CHAIN OIL - 1

MIN: When only 5mm approximately are visible in the lower oil level.

MAX: Oil level full at the top level of the gauge. Note: The life span of the chain and bar guides

depends on the quality of the oil used. Do not use old or already used oil! Only use oil that does not damage your surroundings. Only store oil in homologated recipients.

6.3.3. FIXING THE CABLE

Only use prolongators certified for outdoor use. The cable section must be at least 1.5mm^2 and the cable must have a maximum length of 25m and it must

be completely unrolled before starting to work with the machine. Fix the cable by inserting it on the hook provided to this effect at the back

GARLAND Bulk First E - FIXING THE CABLE - 1

of the machine. Prolongators longer than 25m will reduce the working efficiency of the machine.

6.3.4. TENSING THE CHAIN

Always remove the cable from the mains prior to doing any maintenance or check up work on the machine.

To avoid injuries when checking the chain, wear security gloves when mounting, tensing or checking the chain.

GARLAND Bulk First E - TENSING THE CHAIN - 1

Tensing the chain: 1. Ensure that the chain is in the inside of the bar guide.
2. Loosen the nut of the chain cover.
3. Turn the tensing

screw clockwise to tense the chain and anticlockwise to untense the chain until the chain tension is adequate.

GARLAND Bulk First E - TENSING THE CHAIN - 2

a. In example (A) the chain is too tense.
b. In example (B) the chain is not tense enough.

  1. Tighten the nut of the chain cover. Do not tense the chain too much.

NOTES:

The chain dilates with heat. When the chain is cold the tension will be more than who hot. If you tense the chain when cold, you will have to check the tension after just a few cuts (the chain will have reached its working temperature) as it will have expanded when it heats up and will loosen itself and it could come out from the bar chain guide. Retense the chain if necessary.

If the chain is tensed again when hot, you must check the chain tension when you have finished work as when the chain cools down it will tend to tense and if too tense it could damage the chain.

New chains need some time until the teeth adapt and this could modify slightly the length of the chain. This adaptation takes only a couple of minyes when in use. If you have just changed the chain, remember to check the tension of the chain after a couple of minutes using the machine.

6.4. START UP AND STOPPAGE

GARLAND Bulk First E - START UP AND STOPPAGE - 1

Starting the machine: Press down on the security button and without letting go, press the on/off switch.

Stopping the machine:

Let go of the on/off switch.

Letting go of the on/off switch will stop the chain of the machine in 0.15s. When the switch is not functioning the conexion of the engine to the chain is stopped thanks to a clutch. You will observe that the chain stops even although the engine has not stopped until a few moments later.

6.5. POINTS TO BE VERIFIED

6.5.1. VERIFYING THE KICK BACK PROTECTION

GARLAND Bulk First E - VERIFYING THE KICK BACK PROTECTION - 1

The kick back is the biggest danger of this machine. This machine has an automatic security brake to stop the chain from

moving should an unexpected kick back occur during its use.

To verify the correct function of the automatic brake:

  1. Start the machine and keep it on.
  2. Push forward the chain brake with your left hand.
  3. The chain shoul stop immediately.

If the chain does not stop immediately or it takes too long to stop, take the machine to your after sales technician.

Check the chain brake prior to each use.

6.5.2.VERIFYING THE OIL LUBRICATION SYSTEM

GARLAND Bulk First E - 6.5.2.VERIFYING THE OIL LUBRICATION SYSTEM - 1

After start up, accelerate the chainsaw until the chain rotates at a medium speed and verify that the chainsaw has oil lubrication. To check this, place the machine as in the figure and check that oil comes off the tip of the bar.

7. USING THE MACHINE

Only use this machine for those jobs it has been designed to do. The use of this machine for any other use is dangerous and could cause damages to you and/or the machine.

Only cut wood. Do not use the machine for any other use. For example: do not use the machine to cut plastic materials, bricks and other construction materials that are not wooden. The use of the machine for other uses could cause dangerous situations.

This machine has not been designed to carry out forestal work. Due to the electric conexion, the end user does not have sufficient autonomy to guarantee his/her security.

Do not come near the chain when the machine is functioning.

If you lose your stability or if you fall, let go of the accelerator trigger straight away. Do not only rely on all security measures of the machine.

Do not use this machine if you are tired, ill, or if you are under the influence of drugs, medicines or alcohol.

Be extremely careful when using the machine after it has been raining as the floor could be slippery and you could slip.

Never cut above shoulder level.

Do not use the machine at night, when foggy or with reduced visibility that does not allow you to see all the working area clearly.

Lack of rest and fatigue can cause accidents and damages. Limit the usage of this machine to stints no longer than 10 minutes and rest between 10 and 20 minutes before using again.

Never let the machine out of your eyesight.

Do not allow anybody inside the working area. The minimum perimeter of the working area is 15m and you must consider this a dangerous area.

If you hold the handles of the machine firmly, you will reduce significantly the risk of kick backs and you will increase control of the machine.

Never use the machine when on top of a ladder, in a tree or in any other unstable surface. Do not use the chainsaw one handed.

Be careful when cutting small branches. These can get tangled with the chain and can be propelled unexpectedly towards you causing probable loss of equilibrium.

If you cut a branch that is under tension be alert to a possible rebound of the branch.

Verify the state of the tree prior to cutting to ensure that dry branches will not fall off on top of you whilst cutting.

Clean the work area and remove all obstacles that could produce accidents.

Whilst cutting, ensure that the tip of the bar does not come into contact with any trunks or other obstacles.

Cut with the machine at full throttle. Remove the machine from the trunk when the chain is still in movement.

GARLAND Bulk First E - USING THE MACHINE - 1

When cutting, place the claw in such a way that it grips the trunk.

Pay attention when cutting wood that splits easily. Wood splinters could be propelled in any direction. Risk of corporal damage therefore exists.

Never be on top of the branch that you are cutting.

Maintain the chain always well sharpened. Sharpen as described in this manual.

If you carry out several cuts without letting go of the machine, always turn off the machine between cuts.

GARLAND Bulk First E - USING THE MACHINE - 2

Do not cut with the tip of the bar. There is a high risk of rebound and kick back and therefore you should never cut with the tip of the bar.

Always regulate the machine on a plain and stable surface.

Do not use accessories not recommended by the manufacturer as these could cause severe damage to the user, to other people nearby and to the machine. Never let the machine drop and never try to stop the chain by closing in on a piece of wood or any other object.

7.1. HOLDING THE MACHINE

Whilst you work, always hold the machine firmly with both hands and by the handles provided to this effect.

Hold the front handle with your left hand and the back handle with your right hand whether right or left handed.

Attention!: So as to reduce the risk of loss of control and possible damages (that could be mortal) to the user or those surrounding him, never use the machine one handed.

GARLAND Bulk First E - HOLDING THE MACHINE - 1

7.2. SHARPENING THE CHAIN

The chain loses its sharpness whilst working. If you observe any of the following symptoms it is time to sharpen the machines chain:

More effort is needed to be able to cut.
The cut is not straight.
- Vibrations increase.
- When cutting, instead of the log splitting, you see small shavings.

To sharpen the chain follow instruction in point 8.2 sharpening the chain.

7.3.CUTTING WITH THE MACHINE

We recommend that you first train cutting small branches in an easy position so as to achieve experience before moving onto more complicated cutting techniques.

Always follow all security norms described in this manual.

Only use this machine to cut wood. It is strictly prohibited to cut any other material with this machine.

Do not use this machine to move objects.

Whilst cutting use the machine delicately. Only provide a small pressure downwards but with the machine at full throttle. The weight of the machine will be sufficient to cut.

If the machine gets tangled, do not pull at it whilst the machine is switched on. Stop the machine and use a wedge to free the machine.

7.3.1. FELLING A TREE

Felling a tree is dangerous as branches or/and the tree can fall on top of the end user.

To fell a tree follow the following steps:

GARLAND Bulk First E - FELLING A TREE - 1

  1. Decide in which direction you want the tree to fall (A). Take into account the inclination of the tree, the length of the branch could change direction when fa
  2. Verify that there are no other trees, branches or obstacles onto which the felled tree could fall onto.
  3. Check the final position of the tree so as to cut properly.
  4. Clean up the working area and the area onto which the tree will fall and clearly mark an escape route in case the tree does not fall in the expected direction. The security distance should be at least twice that of the height of the tree.
  5. Cut some branches first. Start with the bottom branches that could difficult your work. Remember not to cut those branches above shoulder level.
  6. So as to guide the fall of the tree, do a guided cut (B). To do this guided cut, cut at a 60 angle until you cut into the log some 25% of the width of the trunk. This cut must be done on the side to which the tree will fall (E). After this, do a further 35 cut that ends up matching the 60 cut, thus obtaining a 95 angle as shown in the attached diagram.
  7. Start a horizontal cut in the opposite side some 3cm above the interior angle of the guided cut (B).

  8. When you have cut 25% through the trunk, place a wedge to avoid the tree inclining on the opposite side to that where you want the tree to fall to. It also avoids the bar being imprisoned.

  9. Carry on the cut © until you reach some 3cm from the guided cut. We must leave this space that will act as a hinge which will ensure that the tree falls in the expected direction.
  10. The tree will fall in direction E.

GARLAND Bulk First E - FELLING A TREE - 2

If the tree does not fall, force its fall by pushing the wedge further into the trunk of the tree.

The moment the tree starts to fall, move away backwards and to one side to maintain an adequate security distance (a bigger distance to that of the height of the tree being cut.) It is fundamental to move away once the tree is falling, as when the tree starts touching other objects and the floor, branches will break and could be propelled towards the end user.

When felling a tree, always warn everybody who is in the vicinity before starting and also warn everybody before doing the horizontal cut and the tree starts falling.

Ensure you are in a stable position and never lean on the tree being felled.

If you work on an incline, place yourself on the top incline so as to avoid the tree rolling towards you once it has been cut.

GARLAND Bulk First E - FELLING A TREE - 3

Follow all the security instructions included in this manual so as to avoid the kick back of the machine.

7.3.2. CUTTING A TRUNK PLACED ON THE GROUND

When a trunk is fully placed on the ground, cut firstly halfway from the top end, then turn the trunk halfway and cut the rest.

If the trunk is leaning on two sides (B zone) you must first cut the top end halfway through (1) and then cut the rest from below (2). This way you will avoid that the internal trunk tension closes in on the cut, blocking the chain and the chainsaw bar.

GARLAND Bulk First E - CUTTING A TRUNK PLACED ON THE GROUND - 1

If you are going to cut with the trunk on one extreme (A) you will have to start inversely. Firstly cut the trunk halfway from the bottom and then from the top part (2).

GARLAND Bulk First E - CUTTING A TRUNK PLACED ON THE GROUND - 2

7.3.3.CUTTING BRANCHES FROM A FELLED TREE

It is important that these branches are not folded and/or under tension. If the branch to be cut is folded or under tension y could propel itself towards you when you cut it.

To cut a branch, in this case, cut 1/4 of the way on the side where the branch has the tension and after that cut the rest of the branch from the other side (see diagram). This way you will avoid that the branch tension closes the cut and/or blocks the chain and bar of the machine.

GARLAND Bulk First E - 7.3.3.CUTTING BRANCHES FROM A FELLED TREE - 1

7.3.4.CUTTING THE BRANCH FROM A TREE

To cut a branch from a tree that is not touching the ground cut a quarter of the way from the bottom side (1) and then cut the rest from the top end (2).

This way you will help the aperture of the cut and that the branch does not pull and damage the tree trunk.

GARLAND Bulk First E - 7.3.4.CUTTING THE BRANCH FROM A TREE - 1

7.3.5. BRANCH CUTTING OR SMALL TRUNK CUTTING

When cutting branches or small trunks use a strong support such as an easel.

GARLAND Bulk First E - BRANCH CUTTING OR SMALL TRUNK CUTTING - 1

Never hold the trunk by using your feet or asking someone else to hold the wood for you.

8. MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE

The removal of security mechanisms, an inappropriate maintenance, the substitution of the bar and chain with non original spares could cause severe corporal damages.

GARLAND Bulk First E - MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE - 1

Always carry out maintenance work with the machine unplugged from the mains.

Carry out the following maintenance checks prior to working as well as when finishing your job to ensure the good functioning of this machine in the future.

8.1. EXIT ORIFICE OF THE CHAIN OIL

Dismount the bar and check that the oil orifice (A) is not clogged.

GARLAND Bulk First E - EXIT ORIFICE OF THE CHAIN OIL - 1

8.2. SHARPNESS OF CHAIN TEETH

Attention!: An incorrectly sharpened chain increases the risk of kick back as well as increasing the vibration level and possible accidents!

To ensure that the machine cuts correctly, maintain the chain sharpened. You must also sharpen the chain if:

  • You must place more pressure to cut.
    The cut is not straight.
  • There is an increase of the vibration levels.
  • When cutting instead of splinters you see shavings.

Do not forget to always use security gloves when sharpening the chain. Make sure the chain is placed correctly once it has been sharpened.

Use a special file for chainsaws when sharpening the chain. Place the file between points (a) and (b) and push the file forward maintaining a 30 angle.

File all the teeth of the chain in the same manner, filing forward at a 30 angle.

GARLAND Bulk First E - SHARPNESS OF CHAIN TEETH - 1

GARLAND Bulk First E - SHARPNESS OF CHAIN TEETH - 2

Check the security height, this height must be some 0.6mm approximately. A height larger than 0.6mm will cause the chain to bite the wood and will require a higher work rate from the engine and a lower height will mean that the chain will cut badly.

Verify the length of the cutting teeth. All teeth must have the same length. If necessary file the teeth until all of them have the same length.

8.3. PERIODIC MAINTENANCE

Do periodic maintenance inspections on the machine to guarantee an efficient use of the machine. For a complete check up, we highly recommend that you take the machine to your after sales service. Maintain the machine clean, specially the ventilating areas of the engine.

Before carrying out any maintenance work, make sure that the machine is not switched to the mains.

Always use original spare parts so as to guarantee the best possible performance of the machine and so as to avoid dangers and risks to the user and the machine. These spare parts should be bought at the after sales service.

The use of non original spare parts can cause accidents, personal damage to the user and breakage of the machine.

8.3.1. MAINTENANCE OF THE BAR

Turn the bar regularly so that it does not only wear out from one end. The guide of the bar must always be in perfect conditions. Verify that it maintains the same thickness in all the bar. Replace the bar if necessary.

GARLAND Bulk First E - MAINTENANCE OF THE BAR - 1

Check that there no fissures and tha the level of looseness is not big. If looseness is big or it has some fissure, change the bar.

When you unmount the bar, remove any wood splinters or shavings near the lubrication hole and on the guide of the bar.

GARLAND Bulk First E - MAINTENANCE OF THE BAR - 2

8.3.2. PINION DRAG

The pinion has a high level of wear. Check the pinion periodically and if you detect wear or loss of material, do not hesitate to take the machine to your after sales service.

9. TROUBLE SHOOTING

Depending on the symptoms that you may observe, you will be able to know the probable cause of the problem and how to solve the problem.

10. TRANSPORT

Before transporting the machine, remove cable from mains.

Transport the machine with the engine stopped and with the bar covered.

11. STORAGE

Store electric tools not in use out of the reach of children and in a safe place where nobody is at risk. The machine should be stored clean and on a flat surface.

Always store the machine with the bar covered with a bar cover.

Always unplug the machine from the mains prior to storing.

If you are going to store the machine in a closed area, empty the oil deposit because the vapours could come into contact with inflammable products or flames.

If you are going to store the machine for a long period of time, empty the oil deposit, clean all the machine parts and keep the machine in a safe and dry place.

12. RECYCLING OR DISPOSAL OF YOUR MACHINE

Dispose of your machine in an ecological manner. We should not get rid of the machine with our domestic rubbish. Its plastic and metal components can be reclassified and can be recycled.
