Intended use This appliance is intended primarily for non-commercial use in closed rooms for heating water and brewing tea. Do not use a damaged appliance. Children should be supervised to ■ ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Do not leave the appliance unattended ■ during operation. Do not pull the cable to remove the ■ plug from the mains socket. Persons who due to their physical, ■ mental or motor response abilities are unable to operate the appliance may only use the appliance under supervi- sion or instruction by a responsible person. Repairs to the appliance must only be ■ carried out by an authorised specialist or by the works customer service; this particularly applies when replacing a damaged connecting cable. Unquali- ed repairs can lead to considerable danger for the user. They will also in- validate the guarantee. Repairs to the appliance during the ■ guarantee period may only be carried out by service centres authorised by the manufacturer as the guarantee will otherwise be invalidated in the event of damage or subsequent damage. Defective parts may only be replaced ■ with original spare parts. Only these parts guarantee that the safety require- ments are satised. If overlled, hot water can squirt out. Keep all parts of your body away ► from escaping steam. Only lift the kettle and the teapot with ► the handle. Lift the teapot carefully. Hot steam ► can escape and lead to scalding. Only use the kettle with the lid on or ► when the teapot is placed on top. Do not open the lid of the kettle or ► teapot immediately after boiling is completed. Remove the tea strainer carefully ► with the help of the handle. Do not move the cordless socket ► when the appliance is in operation. Before cleaning, allow the appliance ► to cool down. Health risk from germs! Always pour boiling water over ► herbal, fruit, rooibos and spice teas (loose and in tea bags) and allow to steep for at least 5 - 10 minutes! This is the only method for ensuring that the tea is safe to drink! Do not allow prepared herbal tea to ► stand for several hours. CAUTION Do not pour in any other liquids apart ► from water or put foodstuffs into the kettle. Never fill the kettle with water if it is ► standing on the cordless socket. Do not use sharp objects or abra- ► sive cleaning agents to clean the surfaces. Descale the kettle regularly. ► Requirements for the place of use For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the installation location must satisfy the following requirements: Place the appliance on a dry, at, wa- ■ terproof and heat-resistant surface. The surface nishes on furniture may ■ contain substances that can be detri- mental to the rubber feet of the appli- ance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance. Do not put the appliance in a hot, wet ■ or very humid environment or in the vicinity of inammable materials. Select a location that does not allow ■ children to reach the hot surfaces of the appliance. The mains socket must be easily ac- ■ cessible to enable quick disconnection of the appliance from the electric circuit in the event of an emergency.18 Tea & Aqua Joy EN BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle Electrical connection The following instructions must be ob- served for the electrical connection: Before connecting the appliance, ■ compare the connection data (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. The data must correspond in order to avoid damage to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical appliance retailer. The mains socket must be protected ■ by at least a 10 A circuit breaker. If the appliance is to be connected ■ to the power supply via an extension lead, the cable cross-section must be at least 1.5 mm². Ensure that the mains cable is undam- ■ aged and is not laid over hot surfaces or sharp edges. The mains cable must not pulled tight- ■ ly, bent or come into contact with the hot appliance or hot surfaces. Place the cable in such a way as to ■ avoid danger from tripping. The electrical safety of the appliance ■ is only assured when it is connected to a properly installed protective earth (PE) conductor system. Connection to a mains socket without PE conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, the electrical system must be checked by a qualied electrician. The manufacturer assumes no liability for injury or damage caused by a missing or interrupted protective earth conductor. Protective equipment The appliance is equipped with boil-dry safety protection. NOTE If the appliance is lled with too little ► water or switched on without any water at all, heating is switched off automatically by a safety switch. See section Resetting the boil-dry safety protection. Startup Unpacking Remove the appliance, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box. Remove all packaging materials and protective foils from the appliance and the accessories before using it for the rst time. NOTE Do not remove the rating plate or ► any warning signs on the appliance. If possible, keep the original packag- ► ing throughout the warranty period so that the appliance can be duly packed in case of a warranty claim. Transport damage will invalidate the guarantee. Check the delivery contents Check for visible signs of damage or miss- ing items. Switch on the appliance by pressing down the on/off switch (4). The indica- tor light lights up. When the water boils, the appliance switches itself off automatically. Before using for the rst time Clean the appliance as described in ■ the section Cleaning and care. Boil fresh water in the appliance twice ■ as described in the section Boiling water and subsequently pour out the water. NOTE Only use fresh water without addi- ► tives. During the initial period of use, odour ► may be produced by the materials used in the appliance. The odour will diminish after a short period of time. Move the reboil function on/off switch (5 ) to the "I" position. The reboil function indicator (10) lights up. The water cools down to 80 °C and is then heated back up to 100 °C. Switching off the appliance Boiling function The appliance switches off automatically when the water boils. If you wish to switch of the appliance prior to this: Push up the boiling function on/off switch (4). Reboil function Move the reboil function on/off switch (5 ) to the "O" position. NOTE The indicator lights (6) and (10) ► extinguishes. Pull the plug out of the mains socket if the appliance is not used for pro- longed periods. Resetting the boil-dry safety protection If you ll the kettle with too little water or switch on an empty appliance, the boil-dry safety protection will switch of the appli- ance automatically. To reset the boil-dry safety protection, pro- ceed as follows: Pour fresh water into the kettle (2). Continue to use the appliance as usual. Brewing tea according to the "Samovar principle" Black tea Fill the kettle (2) with the desired amount of fresh water. NOTE Do not ll up over the MAX (12) ► mark or below the MIN (11) mark. Fill the tea strainer (8) with tea leaves (approx. 1 tea spoon per cup) Put the tea strainer (8) into the teapot (13) or put the tea bag directly into the teapot (1 tea bag for approx. 1-2 cups). Place the teapot (13) onto the kettle (2). The teapot is then warmed up at the same time. Switch on the appliance by pressing down the on/off switch (4). The boiling function indicator (6) lights up. When the water boils, the appliance switch- es itself off automatically. Remove the teapot (13) from the ket- tle (2). NOTE Condensation may drip off the bot- ► tom of the teapot. Place the teapot (13) onto a heat- resistant surface. Open the lid (14) of the teapot (13). Pour the boiling water from the kettle (2) over the tea.21 EN Tea & Aqua Joy BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle NOTE The teapot can be left standing on ► the water tank while the kettle is in operation so that hot tea and hot water can be poured out at any time. Green tea To prepare green tea, proceed as de- scribed in the section Black tea. Pay at- tention to the following differences: Amount: Fill the tea strainer (8) of the teapot (13) with tea leaves (roughly 1 g per 100 ml or roughly 1 level teaspoon for 200 ml of water) or put the tea bag directly into the teapot (13) (use the amount specied by the manufacture). When the water has boiled: Warm up the cups by lling with a lit- tle hot water. The teapot was already warmed up by placing it on the water tank during the boiling process. Allow the water too cool for approx 5-6 minutes. Pour the warm water from the kettle over the tea. Steeping time Allow normal green tea to steep for 1-3 minutes and high-quality green tea for 1 - 1.5 minutes. NOTE Fill the teapot with a maximum of 0.7 ► litre. The more tea leaves or tea bags and ► the less water you use in the teapot, the stronger the tea concentrate will be (professionals enjoy the infusion with exactly 2.86 g of tea per cup). It is preferable to use slightly more tea so that a real concentrate is pro- duced in the teapot. Put the teapot (12) containing the tea concentrate back onto the kettle (2). NOTE The steam circulating in the water ► tank keeps the tea in the teapot at exactly the temperature it needs to "steep". Pour the tea out of the teapot after the desired steeping time. If you have used the tea strainer (8), remove the tea strainer containing the tea. Fill the kettle (2) again with fresh wa- ter and allow the water to heat up. Move the reboil function on/off switch (5 ) to the „I“, to keep the water hot. Pour the concentrate from the teapot (13) into your tea glass (as much as desired) and subsequently ll your glass with the water from the kettle. This allows you to vary the strength and taste of your tea.22 Tea & Aqua Joy EN BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle Tea strainer Clean the tea strainer (8) with a soft ■ brush and warm water after each use. NOTE The tea strainer can ► not be cleaned in the dishwasher. Descaling In order not to decrease the service life of the kettle (2), it must be descaled at regu- lar intervals. The descaling intervals depend on the water hardness and the frequency of use. Calcium deposits can be recognised by the staining on the inside of the kettle (2). NOTE If the kettle (2) is strongly scaled, the ► boil-dry safety protection is triggered and the appliance is switched off. To descale the kettle (2), proceed as follows: Fill the kettle (2) up to the MAX (11) mark with a mixture of fresh water and descaling solution. NOTE Refer to the instructions of the ► manufacturer for the dosage and contact time. Empty the kettle (2), rinse with clear water and wipe the inside with a damp cloth. Fill the kettle (2) with fresh water up to the MAX mark (11), allow the water to boil and pour it out. Repeat the process. Notes on herbal tea In rare cases, herbal tea mixtures may contain germs that are normally killed off when heated over a prolonged period. If not properly brewed, they can become a health risk for babies, small children and sick people. Brewed tea must not be allowed to stand for several hours because although the germs are killed off by the boiling water, the spores in the tea can survive. These can germinate in the warm water. Cleaning and care Before beginning, pay attention to the safety instructions in the Safety section! Cleaning Kettle Clean the inside of the kettle with a ■ soft brush on a long stick and rinse it out. Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. ■ Use washing-up liquid to remove any stubborn stains. Subsequently dry off with a soft cloth. Teapot Clean the teapot (13) with the lid (14) ■ with washing-up liquid after each use and rinse afterwards with fresh water. NOTE The teapot can also be cleaned in ► the dishwasher.23 EN Tea & Aqua Joy BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle Troubleshooting The following table will help you locate and eliminate minor faults: fault Possible cause Remedy Indicator lights do not light up. Appliance is defective. Contact customer service. Boil-dry safety protection was triggered Descale the appliance and reset the boil-dry safety protection as described in the section Resetting the boil-dry safety protec- tion. Heating is defective Contact customer service. The automatic circuit breaker in the fuse box trips. Too many appliances con- nected to the same power circuit. Reduce the number of appliances on the power circuit. Appliance is defective. Contact customer service.
