Foreword Dear customer, By purchasing the Star*Elements water heater, you have chosen a quality product from BEEM. Please read the information below to quickly become familiar with your appliance and make a full use of its functions. Your appliance will serve your needs for many years to come provided you handle and maintain it with due care. We would like to wish you much pleasure while using it. Information on this user manual This user manual forms an integral part of the Star*Elements water heater (hereinafter referred to as "appliance") and contains important information for initial use, safety, intended use and, cleaning and care of the appliance. The user manual must be kept near the appliance at all times. It must be read and observed by all persons entrusted with operation, troubleshooting and/or cleaning of the appliance. Intended use This appliance is intended primarily for non-commercial use in closed rooms for heating water. Any use other than previously stated is considered as improper use. Use the appliance only for its intended purpose. ► Observe the procedures described in this user manual. ► No claims of any kind will be accepted for damage resulting from use of the appliance for other than its intended purpose. Safety This appliance complies with the prescribed safety regulations. Improper use can however result in personal injury and/or damage to the appliance. For safe use of the appliance, observe the following fundamental safety precautions and the precautions described separately in the individual sections: Fundamental safety precautions Inspect the appliance for visible signs of damage before use. ■ Do not use a damaged appliance. Do not allow children to use the appliance without supervision. ■ Do not leave the appliance unattended during operation. ■ Do not pull the mains cable to remove the plug from the mains ■ socket. Persons who due to their physical, mental or motor response ■ abilities are unable to operate the appliance may only use the appliance under supervision or instruction by a responsible person. Repairs to the appliance must only be carried out by an ■ authorised specialist or by the works customer service. Unqualied repairs can lead to considerable danger for the user. They will also invalidate the guarantee. Repairs to the appliance during the guarantee period may ■ only be carried out by service centers authorised by the manufacturer as the guarantee will otherwise be invalidated in the event of damage or subsequent damage. Defective parts may only be replaced with original spare ■ parts. Only original spare parts guarantee that the safety requirements are met. Danger of burns WARNING Hot steam may escape during operation. Observe the following safety precautions to avoid burning your- self. Startup Safety instructions WARNING Damage to the appliance or to persons could occur when using the appliance for the rst time! Observe the following safety precautions to avoid any danger: Never play with packaging material. Risk of suffocation. ► Observe all information on the requirements for the place of ► operation and the electrical connection of the appliance to avoid personal injury and damage to property. Unpacking Remove the appliance, all accessory parts and the user manual from the box. Before using for the rst time, remove all packaging materials and the protective lm from the appliance and accessories. NOTE Do not remove the rating plate or any warning signs on ► the appliance. Delivery contents and transport inspection By default, the appliance is supplied with the components stated in the overview. NOTE Check for visible signs of damage or missing items on ► delivery. Disposing of the packaging The packaging protects the appliance against damage during transit. The packaging materials have been selected according to environmental and waste disposal aspects and can therefore be recycled. Recycling the packaging material for further use saves raw materials and reduces waste. When no longer required, dispose of the packaging materials in accordance with the local regulations. NOTE If possible, keep the original packaging during the guarantee ► period in order to be able to pack the appliance properly in the event of a guarantee claim. Transport damage will invalidate the guarantee. Requirements for the place of operation For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the place of operation must satisfy the following requirements: Place the appliance on a dry, at, waterproof and heat- ■ resistant surface. The surface nishes on furniture may contain substances ■ that can be detrimental to the rubber feet of the appliance. If necessary, place a mat under the feet of the appliance. Do not put the appliance in a hot, wet or very humid ■ environment or in the vicinity of inammable materials. Select a location that does not allow children to reach the hot ■ surfaces of the appliance. The mains socket must be easily accessible to enable quick ■ disconnection of the appliance from the electric circuit in the event of an emergency.36 Startup BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle
Electrical connection For safe and trouble-free operation of the appliance, the following instructions must be observed for the electrical connection: Before connecting the appliance, compare the connection data ■ (voltage and frequency) on the rating plate with those of your mains power supply. This data must correspond in order to avoid damage to the appliance. If in doubt, ask your electrical appliance retailer. The mains socket must be protected by at least a 10 A circuit ■ breaker. If the appliance is to be connected to the power supply via an ■ extension lead, the cable cross section must be at least 1.5 mm². Ensure that the mains cable is undamaged and is not laid over ■ hot surfaces or sharp edges. The mains cable must not pulled tightly, bent or come into ■ contact with the hot appliance or hot surfaces. Place the cable in such a way as to avoid danger from tripping. ■ The electrical safety of the appliance is only assured when ■ it is connected to a properly installed protective earth (PE) conductor system. Connection to a mains socket without PE conductor is forbidden. If in doubt, the electrical system must be checked by a qualied electrician. Before using for the rst time Clean the appliance as described in the section Cleaning and care. Fill the appliance with fresh water up to mark as described in the section Using the appliance. Put the appliance onto the cordless socket (7). Switch on the appliance by moving the ON/OFF switch (6) to "I". Wait until the water boils and the appliance switches itself off. Pour out the water. Repeat the process. Clean the appliance as described in the section Cleaning and care. NOTE During the initial period of use, odor may be produced by the ► materials used in the appliance. Operation This section contains important information on the operation of the appliance. Safety instructions WARNING Danger of burning! Hot steam may escape during opera- tion. Observe the following safety precautions to avoid burning your- self. Keep all parts of your body away from escaping steam. ► Do not open the lid immediately after boiling is completed. ► Do not ll the appliance beyond the maximum mark. ► Brimming over can cause scalding. Only lift the appliance by the handle. ► CAUTION Possible damage to the appliance! Using the appliance Open the lid (1). Press the release button (2) for this purpose. Fill with the desired amount of water. NOTE Observe the lling level indicator (3). Do not overll! ► Insert the calcium lter into the holder. Close the lid (1) until it snaps in. Put the appliance onto the cordless socket (7). Switch on the appliance by moving the ON/OFF switch (6) to "I". The control indicator (5) lights up and the water is heated. As soon as the water is boiled, the appliance switches itself off and the control indicator extinguishes. NOTE You can interrupt water boiling at any time by moving ► the ON/OFF switch (6) to the "O" position or lifting the appliance out of the cordless socket.41 Cleaning and care BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle
Cleaning and care This section contains important information on cleaning and care of the appliance. Safety instructions WARNING Observe the following safety precautions before starting to clean the appliance: Switch off the appliance and pull the plug out of the mains ► socket before starting cleaning. Wait until the appliance has cooled down before you start to ► clean it. Never immerse the appliance or the mains plug in water or ► other liquids. Cleaning Calcium lter Open the lid (1). Press the release button (2) for this purpose. Remove the calcium lter (9) from the appliance. Clean the calcium lter thoroughly. NOTE If the calcium lter is damaged, replace it wit a new ► calcium lter. Insert the calcium lter into the holder. Appliance Wipe the housing with a damp cloth. Use washing-up liquid to ■ remove any stubborn stains. Clean the inside of the appliance using a soft brush with a long ■ stick. Care of stainless steel parts We recommend using INOX-METAL-POLISH from Beem for regular care and the removal of difcult stains from stainless steel surfaces. This polish restores the original gloss to your appliances. INOX-METAL-POLISH is available in tubes and is suitable for pots as well as for other objects made of stainless steel, chromium, brass, copper, aluminum, silver and also hard plastics. INOX- METAL-POLISH is used in factories for polishing stainless steel. Descaling In order not to decrease the service life of the appliance, it must be descaled at regular intervals. The water hardness determines how often the appliance must be descaled. Calcium deposits can be recognized by the which staining on the inside of the appliance. To descale your appliance, proceed as follows: Fill the appliance up to the maximum mark with a mixture of fresh water and descaling solution. NOTE Observe the instructions of the manufacturer. ► Allow the descaling solution to remain in the the appliance over night. Empty the appliance and wipe the inside with a damp cloth. Fill the appliance up to the mark with fresh water, boil the water and pour it out. Repeat the process. 44 Troubleshooting BEEM - Elements of Lifestyle
Troubleshooting Safety instructions DANGER Danger from electric current! Disconnect the plug from the mains socket before starting ► troubleshooting. WARNING Danger from unqualied repairs! Unqualied repairs can lead to considerable danger for the user and cause serious damage to the appliance. Repairs to electrical appliances may only be carried out by ► specialists trained by the manufacturer. Information on storage/disposal Storage If you do not intend to use the appliance for a longer period of time, empty and clean it as described in the section Cleaning and care. Store the appliance in a dry, clean and frost-free place which is protected against direct sunlight. Disposal This product may not be disposed of in the domestic refuse within the European Union. Dispose of the appliance in accordance with the EU Directive 2002/96/EU-WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). Should you have any questions, please contact the local authority responsible for waste disposal. Guarantee, service and repairs This is a quality product from BEEM and was produced using the latest manufacturing methods. We guarantee the perfect condition of this quality product. We will remedy any faults due to material aws or manufacturing faults free of charge within the guarantee period. The guarantee period for this product is 2 years. For commercial or equivalent use, e.g. in hotels, guest houses or communal premises, or if the customer is not a consumer as dened by the German Civil Code, the guarantee is 6 months. This does not infringe the guarantee disclaimer. Guarantee disclaimer: the guarantee does not cover faults caused in particular by improper use, failure to observe instructions in the user manual and safety precautions, use of force, modications, unauthorised attempted repairs and attempted repairs by unqualied third parties. Faults caused by normal wear are also excluded. If we are obliged by law to provide a guarantee and will comply with such obligation – to the exclusion of the right to cancellation or price reduction – and at our discretion, repair or replace the product free of charge. Should the remedy fail despite several attempts or should the replacement product exhibit faults attributable to us, the customer shall be entitled to reduce the purchase price or to cancel the contract of purchase at his/her discretion. Claims under guarantee do not prolong the guarantee period. For exchange or return of the appliance (withdrawal from the purchase contract) or reduction of the purchase price, the rst contact is always the retailer from whom you purchased the product. This particularly applies to returning the appliance or the claim for reductions as these must be settled with respect to the purchase price.
