Follow basic safety precautions, including:

1 This appliance must only be used by or under the supervision of a responsible adult. Use and store the appliance out of reach of children.

16 Remove the kettle from its stand before filling or pouring.
17 Keep the kettle, stand, cable, and plug away from sources of heat.
18 Don't use the kettle for any purpose other than heating water.

20 This appliance must not be operated by an external timer or remote control system.
21 Don't operate the appliance if it's damaged or malfunctions.
22 If the cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or someone similarly qualified, in order to avoid hazard.

household use only

before using for the first time

Fill to MAX, boil, discard the water, then rinse. Do this three times, to remove manufacturing dust, etc.

positioning

1 Put the stand on a stable, level surface.
2 Route the cable so it doesn't overhang, and can't be tripped over or caught.
3 Wind excess cable beneath the stand

filling

caution keep clear, steam may escape from the lid.

4 Remove the kettle from the stand.
5 Use the lid knob to remove the lid.
6 Fill with at least 2 cups of water, but not above MAX
7 If you overfill, the kettle may spit boiling water.
8 Replace the lid.
9 Check the lid is closed, or the kettle won't switch off when it boils.

switching on

10 Plug the stand into the wall socket.
11 Put the kettle on the stand - take care not to spill.
12 Move the switch to I.
13 The light will come on, and the kettle will heat up.

switching off

14 When the water boils the kettle will switch off and the light will go out.
15 To switch off manually, move the switch to
16 Lifting the kettle off the stand will also switch the kettle off.

general

17 Remove the kettle from the stand before pouring.
18 To avoid the risk of splashing, pour slowly and don't over-tilt the kettle.
19 Don't tilt the kettle backwards, water might get on to the control area. If this happens, let the kettle dry before use - sit it somewhere warm for 12 hours.
20 When you lift the kettle, you may see moisture on the stand. Don't worry - it's the steam used to switch off automatically, which then condenses and escapes via vents under the kettle.
21 You may see some discolouration on the floor of the kettle. Again, don't worry - it's due to the bonding of the element to the kettle floor.

using with insufficient water

22 This will shorten the life of the element. A boil-dry cut-out will switch the kettle off.
23 To prevent the kettle cycling on and off, remove the kettle from the stand and let it cool before replacing it on the stand.
24 Sit the kettle on the work surface till it's cold.
25 Don't fill the kettle till it's cold, or it may spit.

care and maintenance

26 Check that the kettle is switched off - move the switch to
27 Unplug the stand from the wall socket, and let the kettle cool down fully before cleaning.
28 Wipe the kettle, inside and out, with a damp cloth. You may use a little household detergent, but if you do, rinse well to avoid tainting the water.
29 Keep all connectors and sockets dry.
30 Don't put the kettle or stand in any liquid.
31 Don't use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents or solvents.

descale regularly

32 Limescale may be white, coloured, even rusty-looking.
33 It may cause overheating, and reduce the working life of the element. It may also make the safety cutout operate prematurely, switching the kettle off before the water boils.
45 As the element is mounted beneath the kettle, scale can build up only on the walls and floor of the kettle, where it can be seen and dealt with.
46 If you see scale forming, wipe it off.
36 Descale regularly, (at least monthly) to keep your kettle in good working order.
37 Use a descaler suitable for use in plastic products (most products have plastic parts). Follow the instructions on the descaler, rinse several times, then fill, boil and discard the water, to ensure no residues are left.

Products returned under guarantee with faults due to scale will be subject to a repair charge.

water filter

38 Scale particles suspended in the water may give it a cloudy or greasy appearance. The filter will prevent these particles going into your drink. If you see deposits on the filter, clean it, otherwise the performance of your kettle will drop, your drinks may contain scale, and the water inside the kettle may look cloudy.

cleaning the filter

39 Check your hands are free from soap, or anything which might leave a taint.
40 Switch the kettle off, and let it cool.
41 Use the lid knob to remove the lid.
42 Use the tab on the filter to pull the filter out of the guides, then lift it out of the kettle.
43 Rinse the filter under a running tap while brushing with a soft brush.
44 Rinse the kettle, in case scale particles have fallen inside.
