First use: laser warning sticker

The device is labelled with a laser warning sticker in English. The package contains stickers in other languages. If the user does not understand English, put the sticker with the language on the device.

  1. Refer to the safety instructions before using the device.
  2. Make sure the device does not contain batteries.
  3. Put the sticker in your language on the device.
  4. When done, insert batteries (see section Battery below).

2. Safety Instructions

Never point the beam toward people's or animals' eyes or allow the beam to strike the eye from a reflective surface. Use extreme caution when the laser pointer beam is on. Do not use the laser near explosive gases or in other potentially explosive areas.

![]('img_url')DO NOT disassemble or open the cover. No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer to an authorized dealer for service and/or spare parts.

  • Inspect the housing before using the device. Do not use it if it appears damaged. Look for cracks or missing plastic.
  • Replace the battery as soon as the battery indicator appears on the display.
  • Do not use the thermometer if it operates abnormally.
  • Do not operate the thermometer around explosive gas, vapour, or dust.
  • To avoid burn hazard, remember that highly reflective objects will often result in lower than actual temperature measurements.
  • Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty and the dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.
    Note that damage caused by user modifications to the device is not covered by the warranty.

3. General Guidelines

Refer to the Velleman® Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of this manual.

  • Only use the device with appropriate batteries (see Technical Specifications below).
  • Protect this device from shocks and abuse. Avoid brute force when operating the device.
  • Protected the device against extreme heat (see Technical Specifications below), dust and moisture.

  • Familiarise yourself with the functions of the device before actually using it.

  • All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons.
  • Only use the device for its intended purpose. Using the device in an unauthorised way will void the warranty.
  • Readings may be affected if the unit is operated within radio frequency electromagnetic field strength of about 3 volts per meter, but the performance of the instrument will not be permanently affected.
  • Operating temperature: see technical specifications.

6. Operation

  1. Hold the meter by its grip and point it toward the surface to be measured. Read the section Distance-to-spot ratio below for distance to target ratio information.
  2. Pull and hold the trigger to turn the meter on and begin testing. The display will light if the battery is good.
  3. While measuring temperature, you can:

Push the Laser button to switch the laser pointer ON. The laser pointer is only used for aiming. When the laser is on, the laser icon appears appear on the LCD. Aim the red beam approximately 1 cm below the point of test. Pressing the Laser button again turns the laser off.
- Select the temperature units using the ^ C / ^ button.

  1. Release the trigger. The reading will hold for approximately 7 seconds. The devices shuts off automatically after 20 seconds.

Backlight

When backlight is on, any operation activates the backlight for about 7 seconds.

Distance-to-spot ratio (D:S)

The device's distance-to-spot ratio is 12:1.
- The distance-to-spot ratio (D:S) is the ratio of the distance to the object and the diameter of the temperature measurement area.
- For instance if the D:S ratio is 12:1, measurement of an object 120cm away will average the temperature over a 10cm area.

7. Battery

Replace the battery when the battery low icon appears on the display or if the device does not light when you pull the trigger.

The battery is located in the hand grip.

  1. Pull open the hand grip.
  2. Insert a battery.

Only use appropriate batteries (see Technical Specifications below).

Respect the polarity.

  1. Close the battery cover.

Warning

  • Keep batteries away from children.
  • Do not puncture batteries or throw them in fire as they may explode.
  • Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries (alkaline).
  • Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations.

8. Cleaning and Maintenance

The sensor lens is the most delicate part of the thermometer and should be kept clean at all times.
To do this, only use a soft cloth or cotton bud with a little water or medical alcohol.
- Allow the lens to fully dry before using the thermometer.
- Wipe the other parts of the thermometer regularly with a moist, lint-free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents.
- Do not submerge the thermometer in water or any other liquid.
There are no user-serviceable parts.
- Contact your dealer for spare parts if necessary.

Since its foundation in 1972, Velleman® acquired extensive experience in the electronics world and currently distributes its products in over 85 countries.

All our products fulfil strict quality requirements and legal stipulations in the EU. In order to ensure the quality, our products regularly go through an extra quality check, both by an internal quality department and by specialized external organisations. If, all precautionary measures notwithstanding, problems should occur, please make appeal to our warranty (see guarantee conditions).

General Warranty Conditions Concerning Consumer Products (for EU):

  • All consumer products are subject to a 24-month warranty on production flaws and defective material as from the original date of purchase.

  • Velleman® can decide to replace an article with an equivalent article, or to refund the retail value totally or partially when the complaint is valid and a free repair or replacement of the article is impossible, or if the expenses are out of proportion. You will be delivered a replacing article or a refund at the value of 100% of the purchase price in case of a flaw occurred in the first year after the date of purchase and delivery, or a replacing article at 50% of the purchase price or a refund at the value of 50% of the retail value in case of a flaw occurred in the second year after the date of purchase and delivery.

- Not covered by warranty:

  • all direct or indirect damage caused after delivery to the article (e.g. by oxidation, shocks, falls, dust, dirt, humidity...), and by the article, as well as its contents (e.g. data loss), compensation for loss of profits:

  • consumable goods, parts or accessories that are subject to an aging process during normal use, such as batteries (rechargeable, non-rechargeable, built-in or replaceable), lamps, rubber parts, drive belts... (unlimited list);

  • flaws resulting from fire, water damage, lightning, accident, natural disaster, etc....

  • flaws caused deliberately, negligently or resulting from improper handling, negligent maintenance, abusive use or use contrary to the manufacturer's instructions;

  • damage caused by a commercial, professional or collective use of the article (the warranty validity will be reduced to six (6) months when the article is used professionally);

  • damage resulting from an inappropriate packing and shipping of the article;

  • all damage caused by modification, repair or alteration performed by a third party without written permission by Velleman®.

  • Articles to be repaired must be delivered to your Velleman® dealer, solidly packed (preferably in the original packaging), and be completed with the original receipt of purchase and a clear flaw description.

  • Hint: In order to save on cost and time, please reread the manual and check if the flaw is caused by obvious causes prior to presenting the article for repair. Note that returning a non-defective article can also involve handling costs.

  • Repairs occurring after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.

  • The above conditions are without prejudice to all commercial warranties.
