Frequently Asked Questions - PIR1200W Perel

How to adjust the sensitivity of the detector?
Sensitivity is adjusted via the SENS potentiometer on the housing. Turn it clockwise to increase the detection range, counterclockwise to reduce it.
Why does the detector turn on in broad daylight?
The twilight threshold (LUX setting) is probably too high. Turn the LUX potentiometer towards the moon symbol so that the detector only activates at nightfall.
How to adjust the on-time duration?
Use the TIME potentiometer to set the time delay from 5 seconds to 8 minutes. Turn clockwise to increase the duration.
The detector does not turn on at all. What to do?
Check that the power switch is on and the fuse is good. Make sure the LUX threshold is not set to day mode (sun) and that the lamp is not burnt out.
Can this detector be installed outdoors?
Yes, the IP44 rating protects it against splashes. However, avoid direct exposure to heavy rain.
What is the recommended installation height?
Install the detector at about 2 to 2.5 meters above ground for optimal coverage.
The detector turns on for no apparent reason. Why?
This may be due to heat sources (animals, vehicles, temperature variations) or a poor detection angle. Reduce sensitivity or reorient the detector.
Can I use LED bulbs with this detector?
Yes, but the maximum load for LEDs is 600 W. Make sure the total power of the LEDs does not exceed this limit.
How to clean the detector?
Use a soft dry cloth. Never use chemicals or abrasives that could damage the lens.
Does the detector flash when detecting?
Normally not. Flashing may indicate an overload or wiring fault. Check the lamp power and connections.

2. General Guidelines

Refer to the Velleman® Service and Quality Warranty on the last pages of this manual.

3. Operation

Refer to the illustrations on page 2 of this manual.

  • You can adjust the detection area according to your needs: turn the device to the left or right and aim it up or down. Note that the detector is much more sensitive to objects moving across the detection area (fig. 1) than it is to objects coming straight at it (fig. 2). This is a very important consideration when selecting the mounting location.
  • The device can distinguish between day and night thanks to the adjustable ambient light setting. The device can work in the daytime when the "sun" (max.) position is selected with the selector at the back of the device. The device will only work with an ambient light level < 3 lux when the "moon" (min.) position is selected.
  • TIME adjustment: enables the user to set the activation duration (min. 8 s +/- 3 s, max. 7 min +/- 2 min).

4. Installation

Refer to the illustrations on page 2-3 of this manual.

  1. Deactivate and remove the fuse.
  2. Remove the screw at the bottom. Remove the two recesses and insert the wires through the holes.
  3. The bottom part of the housing is mounted with the included screw.

  4. Connect the wires according to the illustration 3 on page 2.

6. Test

  • Turn the LUX adjustment anticlockwise until the max. position is reached and turn the TIME adjustment anticlockwise until the min. position is reached.
  • It takes the device some 5 to 10 s to react when movement is detected. The lamp will light for 5 to 15 s.

7. Notes

  • A qualified electrician should install this device.
  • Do not block the front of the detection window and make sure the detection area holds no moving objects.
  • Do not install the device close to air conditioning vents, radiators, etc.
  • Do not open the housing and attempt to repair the device yourself in case of malfunction. Only skilled technicians should repair this device.

8. Troubleshooting

The lamp does not work.

- Check the power supply and the lamp.

Sensitivity is poor.

  • An object may be blocking the detection window.
  • Check the ambient temperature.
  • Please check if the signal source is located within the boundaries of the detection range.
  • Check the installation height.
  • Check if the moving orientation is right.

The lamp does not extinguish.

○ Movement is continually detected.
- The activation duration is too long.
- Dramatic temperature change in close vicinity to the sensor. These may be caused by e.g. air conditioning vents or central heating elements, etc.
