Frequently Asked Questions - NSM325 YAMAHA

How to connect the speakers to the amplifier?
Make sure the amplifier is off. Connect the amplifier's (+) terminal to the speaker's (+) terminal with one wire, and the (-) terminals with the other wire. Observe polarity for natural sound. Tighten the knobs after inserting stripped cables about 10 mm.
What to do if the sound lacks bass?
Check that the speaker polarities are correctly connected (+ to +, - to -). Polarity inversion causes hollow sound and lack of bass. If needed, reverse the connections on one speaker.
Can I mount the speakers on the wall?
Yes, use the supplied mounting bracket. Screw the screws into a solid wall (not thin plywood) and hang the speaker through the bracket holes. Make sure the screws are well engaged in the narrow parts of the holes.
What precautions to take for wall mounting?
The speaker weighs 3.8 kg. Do not mount it on thin plywood or a soft wall. Use appropriate screws and secure the speaker cord to the wall to avoid accidents. Check stability regularly.
How to remove the front cover?
The front cover is held by magnets. Gently pull it off with one hand while holding the speaker with the other. Be careful not to touch the speakers. After removal, do not place the cover near magnet-sensitive objects.
What to do in case of sound distortion?
Reduce the sound level by lowering the amplifier volume. Never let distorted sound (clipping) occur, as this can damage the speakers. Also check that the amplifier power does not exceed the speakers' maximum power (120 W).
How to clean the speakers?
Use a clean, dry cloth. Never use chemical thinners, solvents or abrasive products, as they would damage the finish. Avoid letting water droplets enter the speaker.
Can I use banana plugs?
Yes. Remove the terminal cover by pulling it towards you, tighten the knob, then insert the banana plug into the terminal. Make sure the connection is solid.
What is the maximum supported power?
The maximum input power is 120 W. The rated power is 30 W. Do not exceed these values to avoid damaging the speakers.
Are the speakers magnetically shielded?
Yes, they have anti-magnetic shielding. However, if placed too close to a TV, they may still disturb the picture or cause hum. Move them away if necessary.

Thank you for selecting this YAMAHA NS-M325 speaker system.

PRECAUTIONS

Read this before using the speaker.

  • To assure the finest performance, please read this manual carefully. Keep it in a safe place for future reference.
Install the speaker in a cool, dry, clean place - away from windows, heat sources, sources of excessive vibration, dust, moisture and cold. Avoid sources of humming (transformers, motors). To prevent fire or electrical shock, do not expose the speaker to rain or water.
  • To prevent the enclosure from warping or discoloring, do not place the speaker where it will be exposed to direct sunlight or excessive humidity.
  • Do not place the following objects on the speaker:

Glass,china,etc.

If glass etc. falls by vibrations and breaks, it may cause personal injury.

A burning candle etc.

If the candle falls by vibrations, it may cause fire and personal injury.

A vessel with water in it

If the vessel falls by vibrations and water spills, it may cause damage to the speaker, and/or you may get an electric shock.

  • Do not place the speaker where foreign objects such as water drips might fall. It might cause a fire, damage to the speaker, and/or personal injury.

  • Do not place the speaker where it is liable to be knocked over or struck by falling objects. Stable placement will also ensure better sound performance.

  • Placing the speaker on the same shelf or rack as the turntable can result in feedback.
  • Any time you note distortion, reduce the volume control on your amplifier to a lower setting. Never allow your amplifier to be driven into "clipping". Otherwise the speaker may be damaged.
  • When using an amplifier with a rated output power higher than the nominal input power of the speaker, care should be taken never to exceed the speaker's maximum input.
  • Do not attempt to clean the speaker with chemical solvents as this might damage the finish. Use a clean, dry cloth.
  • Do not attempt to modify or fix the speaker. Contact qualified YAMAHA service personnel when any service is needed. The cabinet should never be opened for any reasons.
  • Secure placement or installation is the owner's responsibility.

YAMAHA shall not be liable for any accident caused by improper placement or installation of the speaker.

Place the speakers on a sturdy, vibration-free surface, on a well-built stand.

Using as front speakers in a multi channel system

Position the speakers on both sides of the TV. The positioning of speakers is important, because it controls the whole sound quality of a multi channel system. Set up the speakers on the basis of your listening position by following the owner's manual supplied with your amplifier.

Using as presence or surround speakers

Mount the speakers on a wall or place the speakers on a shelf. Determine the best position by following the owner's manual supplied with your amplifier.

Note:
This speaker features a magnetically shielded design, but there is still a chance that placing it too close to a TV set might impair picture color or create a buzzing noise. Should this happen, move the speaker away from the TV set.

To mount the speaker on a wall by using the attached mounting bracket

Fasten screws into a firm wall or wall support as shown in the figure, and hang the holes of the mounting bracket on the protruding screws.

  • Make sure that the screws are securely caught by the narrow parts of the holes.

WARNING:

  • This speaker weighs 3.8kg (8.4 lbs). Do not mount it on thin plywood or a wall with soft surface material. If mounted, the screws may come out of the flimsy surface and the speaker may fall. This damages the speaker or causes personal injury.
  • Do not install the speaker to a wall with nails, adhesives, or any other unstable hardware. Long-term use and vibrations may cause it to fall.
  • To avoid accidents resulting from tripping over loose speaker cable, fix it to the wall.

CONNECTIONS TO YOUR AMPLIFIER

Before making connections, make sure that the amplifier is switched off.

CONNECTIONS

  • Connect the screw-type input terminals at the rear of the speakers to the speaker output terminals of the amplifier (or receiver) with the speaker cable.
  • Connect the (+) terminals on the amplifier (or receiver) and the speakers using one side of the cable. Connect the (-) terminals on both components using the other side of the cable.
  • Connect one speaker to the left (marked L) terminals of your amplifier, and another speaker to the right (marked R) terminals, making sure not to reverse the polarity (+, -). If one speaker is connected with reversed polarity, the sound will be unnatural and lack bass.
