Frequently Asked Questions - CM3301 TEFAL

How to descale the Tefal CM3301 coffee maker?
Descale every 40 cycles. Use a descaling sachet diluted in 2 large cups of water or 2 large cups of white vinegar. Pour into the reservoir, brew one cup, stop, let it sit for 1 hour, then finish the cycle. Rinse with 2 to 3 cycles of fresh water.
What to do if the coffee flows too slowly?
Slow flow or excessive noise often indicates a need for descaling. Perform descaling as described in the manual.
Can I use the carafe on a stovetop?
No, the glass carafe is not designed to be used on a flame or electric hob. Use it only on the coffee maker's hotplate.
Does the coffee maker shut off automatically?
Yes, the coffee maker stops automatically when you turn off the switch. At the end of the cycle, it keeps the coffee warm as long as it is on. It is recommended to turn it off when the carafe is empty.
How to clean the filter holder and reservoir?
The filter holder and removable reservoir are dishwasher safe. You can also clean them by hand with a damp sponge.
Can I prepare a second pot immediately?
It is recommended to wait about 10 minutes after turning off the appliance to let it cool down. Otherwise, water may overheat and cause burns.
What type of coffee to use?
Use ground coffee for drip. One level tablespoon per cup is recommended, adjust to taste.
Can I interrupt the brewing cycle?
Yes, remove the carafe from the hotplate. The flow stops. Replace it quickly to resume the cycle.
What to do if the appliance does not turn on?
Check that the switch is set to on, that the plug is connected, and that the filter holder is properly locked. If the problem persists, contact an authorized service center.
Is the coffee maker suitable for professional use?
No, it is designed for household use only. Use in professional environments (staff kitchens, guest houses, etc.) voids the warranty.

  • This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  • Before plugging the appliance in, make sure that the power it uses corresponds to your electrical supply system and that the outlet is earthed.

Any error in the electrical connection will negate your guarantee.

  • Your appliance is designed for domestic use only. Any commercial use, inappropriate use or failure to comply with the instructions, the manufacturer accepts no responsibility and the guarantee will not apply.
  • Unplug the appliance when you have finished using it and when you clean it.
  • Do not use the appliance if it is not working properly or if it has been damaged. If this occurs, contact an authorised service centre.
  • All interventions other than cleaning and everyday maintenance by the customer must be performed by an authorised service centre.
  • Do not use the appliance if the power cord or plug is damaged. The power cord must be replaced by an authorised centre to prevent any danger.
  • Do not immerse the appliance, power cord or plug in water or any other liquid.
  • Do not leave the power cord within reach of children.
  • The power cord must never be close to or in contact with the hot parts of your appliance, near a source of heat or over a sharp edge.
  • For your safety, only use the manufacturer's accessories and spare parts designed for your appliance.
  • Do not pull on the cord to unplug the appliance.
  • Do not use the jug over a flame or on the hob of a cooker.
  • Do not pour water into the appliance if it is still hot.
  • Always close the lid (a) when running the coffee maker.
  • All appliances are subject to strict quality control procedures. These include actual usage tests on randomly selected appliances, which would explain any traces of use.
  • Do not use your jug in a microwave oven.
  • Do not leave unattended whilst in operation.
  • This appliance is intended to be used only in the household. It is not intended to be used in the following applications, and the guarantee will not apply for:

  • staff kitchen areas in shops, offices and other working environments;

  • farm houses;
  • by clients in hotels, motels and other residential type environments;
  • bed and breakfast type environments.

Before using for the first time,

  • Place your coffee maker on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface away from water splashes and any sources of heat.
  • Run the coffee maker for the first time without coffee, rinsing the circuit with 0.5 litres or 1 litre of water (depending on model).

Making coffee

(Follow illustrations 1 to 8)

  • Plug the coffee maker into a mains socket with the same voltage as that indicated on the rating plate of the appliance.
  • Remove the water tank, fill it with cold water from the tap, put it back in place at the rear of the coffee maker.
  • The marks on the tank show the volume of water required for the number of cups desired.
  • Fit a coffee filter (filter paper n°4 or permanent filter) into the filter holder. Add one tablespoonful of ground coffee for each cup. If you prefer your coffee slightly stronger or weaker, adjust the quantity of coffee to suit your taste.
  • Fit the filter holder onto its support and close the lid.
  • Place the jug onto the hot plate.
  • Switch on. The "ON" indicator light shows that the machine is operating.
  • If you want to serve a cup of coffee before the end of the cycle, simply remove the jug from the hot plate. The coffee will stop flowing automatically. Return the jug to the plate quickly so that the coffee may continue flowing.
  • At the end of a cycle, wait for around one minute until the water in the filter stops flowing into the jug. We recommend leaving the lid on the jug so that it is easier to use and so that the coffee stays at the right temperature for longer.
  • To keep the coffee hot, place the jug on the hot plate after serving the coffee. The hot plate automatically stays at the ideal temperature as long as the coffee machine is switched on.
  • Switch off when the jug is empty or when the appliance is not in use.
  • If you want to prepare another coffee cycle, switch off the appliance and wait for 10 minutes so that the heating elements can cool down.

Important : if you do not let the appliance cool down before preparing another coffee cycle, the water in the tank may become too hot and a jet of steam may come out, causing burns.

Cleaning

  • To dispose of the used coffee grounds, remove the filter holder (e) from the coffee maker.
  • Unplug the appliance.

  • Do not clean the appliance while hot.

  • Clean with a damp cloth or sponge.
  • Never put the appliance in water or under running water.
  • The filter holder and removable water tank can be washed in the dishwasher.

Descaling

- Descale your coffee maker after every 40 cycles.

You can use:

  • a packet of limescale remover diluted in 2 cups of water.
  • or 2 cups of white vinegar (available in hardware stores).

  • Pour into the tank (b) and switch the coffee maker on (without coffee).

  • Let the equivalent of one cup flow into the jug (c), then stop it.
  • Leave to work for one hour.
  • Switch the coffee maker back on to run the rest of the descaling solution through.
  • Rinse the coffee maker by running 0.5 litres or 1 litre of water (depending on model) through it 2 or 3 times.

The guarantee does not cover coffee makers that do not work properly or do not work at all because they have not been descaled.
